DIYer here. As I get older I have been moving over to the Milwaukee 12V line because of weight. My wife now uses them too because of that. I have a bunch of Festools when beast mode or max dust collection is required :-) All my sanders have pad savers. Saves me burning through the pads when I help friends on commercial jobs. But what I did learn from using my Festool sanders is that having a hard pad is sometime needed. With Festool you have various pads to do that. So with this sander I take off the pad saver when needed. Pad saver is next softness (not much) and then the sponge pad. The sponge pad worked great on spindles. I love the tool and loaned it to a few finish carpenters I know and they now own their own. Great review.
The line "it only has to save you X times to be worth the $$" is so true for low/mid-priced tools...even super expensive tools at times. Even if you don't use something all the time, if it solves a very specific need very well it can be so worth it anyways.
The pad saver is to save the hooks on the pad because people that push too hard with hook & loop pads over heat the hooks and they get damaged. You need to let the sandpaper do the work.
We bought one because where we are in Australia it's almost impossible to find the delta sheets for the rotex 90. Been burning off timber windows and it's magic for getting into the corners next to parting beads on double hung windows! Goes alright on the hardwood sills too, with 80 grit mesh!
I got into M12 stuff for the pin nailer a couple of years ago and I'm really happy that I did - the install drill (eventually I got used to the top toggle button) and multitool get used daily among other things. Everything is surprising in terms of size and weight to power. Even the tiny circular saw has its place. I have mostly Makita 18V probably because of a reasonably priced track saw and between the two everything is covered besides nailers. Used to use the M18 but switched to paslode to get back to two battery platforms and as annoying as the gas is the weight makes it worth it. The Makita orbital battery sander is garbage and even if it worked well doesn't get into corners. I have the surfprep 4x3 (?) which is outstanding especially with the soft pad for profiles but it's corded. I'm sure I'll buy this.

This comment has nothing to do with this video but I have watched a few of your older videos on trim work, setting box Newel’s, etc. I’m renovating the whole upstairs of my house including a staircase and I love how well you explain things. I love doing trim work but do run into things now and again that I need help with or just want to know how the pros do it and you’re that guy. Just subscribed, thanks again for the great content. I've got a sander attachment for my multi tool and it does an excellent job, don't have the adjustment of the Milwaukee but one less tool and it does a fantastic job.
The Multi-Tool is far more aggressive and leaves marks similar to a random orbit sander using worn out paper (leaving pigtails). This one doesn't do that.

Using a hard/ harder pad makes for a better finish,flat and smooth is way better than lumpy and smooth,it makes it appear glossier ,sharper and crisper for the same amount of effort,although I will continue to wrap paper around a scrap of timber for the fiddly bits I can see your side and the quality of the finish you have gives you the right to do it any way you want
I have the Fein Detail sander. The disadvantage is that it has a cord. I would love to have the Milwaukee, but the Fein still works fine (haha) & with how much I use mine (not that much) I can't justify buying a new one until the old one breaks.
As a novice user, I watched your video and I felt really inspired! Just a quick question, do you feel discomfort after using a detail sander for a long time? If so, which parts of your body is it in?
Good performance but bad vibration and lack of dust collection soured me on it. Bosch has a new 18v detail sander, same ergonomics as their 5” random orbital, with dust collection. Planning to try that one next.
Love this thing. The soft interface pad is great for sanding crown molding etc. i’ve seen people try and compare it to using an osculating/ multitool absolutely no comparison. The osculating tool scratches the s#!t out of your work pieces almost as much as it does sand. This little guy produces some pretty nice finishes. More refined better control and just a better all-around user experience.
Dust extraction on a tool that size WHAT!?.. What would be baffling is trying to watch somebody hook dust extraction to this why they’re sanding coffered ceilings or crown molding etc. The hose would almost be bigger than the sander😂
the M12 multitool with sanding pad will do the work for me...thats quite overpriced for $149 even at $100....plus proprietory sanding pad and the one thing i dont like the most is noisy during use under load....i'll pass again the multitool with sanding pad does the job fine....sure its not orbital but it works great plus a variety of cheap common standard sanding pads available of many brands does it for me.

Even if you don't use something all the time, if it solves a very specific need very well it can be so worth it anyways.
Another nice feature is being able to remove the pad and index it in other orientations with the included Allen wrench.

It's been a great sander so far in the 3 weeks I've had it. I was very surprised at the quality of the sanded surface. I hated using a multi-tool.

No it doesn’t it scratches your work surface doesn’t remove material as fast and vibrates 10 times more.

No. I use it a lot as a detail sander and do not generate a ton of dust. But when I do I usually have my Festool vac to collect it.

The sanding quality isn't nearly as good with an OSM.

I run Miwaukee 18v tools - anyone know how this sander compares to the triangle adaptor for the M18 multitool?
Love your videos. You can use a multi tool with the corner sanding attachment to achieve the same thing
Similar, but not really identical. A multi tool is much heavier, and the stroke length is also not as large.

Looks like a great tool. Just wear a mask with it. I recently was diagnosed with a couple of lung nodules, no doubt from sawdust. I do not smoke.
Man I could've used this sander a few weeks ago. Couldn't get under a shallow ledge or back in some corners on a bar top.

I have a sander head for my DeWalt multi-tool. Same thing. I would say its handy, but not the best sander when I compare it to my Mirka 6"
