Mrs. French was born on August 17, 1934 and passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016. Albert Hall was born on 14 October 1886 in Coronado, Kansas, USA. He was previously married to Catherine Mary Conroy. He died in August 1964 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
Thanks for the info. Sad to learn that by the time this show was filmed Albert Hall had lost three of his four children! I don't know the circumstances. Incredible to think after all that he still was able to make us laugh.
Thanks. Learning that people I feel as though I've just met, are actually now no more than just the flickering remains of light of the already dead and gone is the only thing I dislike about watching these films. Yet, why don't we apply that sentimentality to those of the here and now, and not just to those who dwelt here, too, and who are familiar to each of us only because they breathed and eat, but in very little else, because the times and places in which we lived are so dissimilar ? When we pass by those familiar doorways each day, over the years, with each succession of passing tennants behind them unknown to us increasing in number, we daily reduce whatever was the total number of chances we first had to walk up those paths, knock, and have them open the door to us. Yet if we did, should we, should they, regret it after meeting, and vow never to do so again ? I see now I've written this that what I'm saying is these films are piercing, unbearably accusing reminders, like photographs, of the lost opportunities to love and to be kind to each other. Ah, life ! (By the way how, please, do you know about them ? Also, why did he stare, and speak so emphatically ? The loss of the women for me is particularly, unbearably acute). Thanks.
Mr Hall seems good-natured enough and he is probably accustomed to people thinking he's odd, hence his "composing" line which is clearly a Karloff impression. As for Mrs French man people did look older back in those days. If she had said she was 60 years old I would have believed it.
They did extremely well, winning the max $440 for this era of the show. The two other couples also won the max. All three had to write their answers to the final question, which I forgot. I believe all three couples were incorrect.
The whole episode is available elsewhere, maybe here at YT & definitely on DVD. It was the young woman who got all their correct answers on a geography quiz. Will try to post a link to the full episode.

It's not even close. The quick wit with no profanity or gross bodily function jokes makes today's comedians look 2 inches tall compared to the giants of comedy from the Golden Age of entertainment. Steven Wright does it without needless profanity and smut but I'm not sure if there any others.
A lot of the contestants on the show look older than what they said they were. I wonder if many were lying so they could be "discovered."After all, some went on to be famous or more well-known (Pedro Gonzalez Gonzalez, Phyllis Diller, Ronnie Shell, Candace Bergen, others)

No it isn't. They do share a very slight resemblance though. Also, Huntz hall was still alive in the late 1980's, yet this guy, Albert hall, died in the mid 1960's. I could see how somebody might think they were the same person though.
It's not Huntz Hall. Huntz was born in 1920, and would have been in his late 30s when this episode aired. The Mr. Hall who appears here is at least in his late 50s. Moreover his voice and face are not at all like Huntz Hall's.

Yeah, he is TOTALLY messing with Groucho. Do you notice he doesn't make the crazy faces at his partner or the studio audience?
Do you think any of it was scripted? To me, that whole bit about how the studio audience selected the contestants is suspect.
