We don't see Kevin's relationship with his grandmother but she clearly loves and support Kevin, so it can be assumed that he told her all about Charlie. Anyone was better than a Viola clone. If Gertrude wasn't interested in Charlie or eager to meet her and give Kevin and Charlie her support, she probably wouldn't have came to the wedding dressed in blue. Gertrude has an intense dislike for Viola b/c in her eyes, Viola killed her son. Viola disliked Charlie simply b/c she was controlling and didn't think anyone was good enough for him, especially not Charlie because she didn't come from a well to do background like Kevin.
Funny how, in real life, it seems that these ladies' attitudes are swapped. Jane Fonda is very hospitable to her fans and the public with a kind, nurturing soul. JLo...well just ask any concierge at a hotel she has stayed at.
