those who watched westbrook in real life know that you just can't win with him. He has ZERO off ball game. And even with durant, he chose to SHOOT MORE THAN HIM. I used to love it when he did that when i was rooting for the warriors. He refuses to be effective without the ball. Thats problematic for a guy with such a high usage rate as his. I just can't respect that style of play. He's talented af. The only time he played well withot hte ball was in houston. There you saw how beautiful his game could be. It's a shame. But ppl will only watch the highlights to come to a conclusion about his highly flawed, yet ultra talented player.
He can play well still as first option and get garbage teams to playoffs. But he can't play well without the ball, his athleticism is good and only declined a bit but his big holes become obvious. You can be a contender with him but he needs ball and he needs the exact personnel , hes definitely a system player yet he needs ball in hands. I like him too, look at how great he did last playoffs.
I absolutely love Russ, but during his peak he rested on defense. I’m not faulting him because he had to do everything offensively, but I watched every OKC game I could during his prime years and he didn’t come close to maxing out on that end of the ball.
The fact that people say he was stat padding in okc didn't read team had a winning season those 3 triple double season years with okc. You can hate his attitude on and off the court but you gotta respect his game and how hard he went on the court.
Bruh is 6'3 and averaged a triple double for 4 seasons. Cmon man. Shit is unreal. Jokic ,Bron, Luka type players should be close to triple doubles in today's league. This man russ did it for 4 seasons. On top of that, Brad beal and Paul George both had their career years with Westbrook doing what he does. Media is nasty bc he should be one of the most celebrated athletes in HISTORY. homecoming in the end of his career too. Money , endorsements, teammates vouch , opposing coaches vouch. Not a stretch to me if Russ is in your top 5 pg... Don't let Russ get a chip or two. Bc then he's a top 3 pg of all time, even if he gets them as a bench player. Too many accolades the others wouldn't have. Outside of Steph and magic. There's no other point guard with a a clear cut better resume
Russ definitely gave his all when he played, BUT his greatest flaw is not understanding his place. In my own opinion had he understood and played like KD was #1 and he was #2 they would have won the championship against Golden State. Its the equivalent of Pippen trying to take as many shots as Jordan..................it just doesn't work!
Y’all praise russ for giving 110% but that’s only on offense. He plays no defense. I feel like if we gonna talk about who’s the all time hustler, we gotta incorporate both sides of the ball. Before I get slander, I’m an OKC fan and I absolutely love russ and hate how the media treats him
I remember watching old games with my pops and seeing how after a jumpshot most time often than not... you'd see almost everyone on the court boxing out for the rebound besides the shooter and the defender on the shooter. Russ gets his rebounds mainly because the guards don't box out how they used. Just my opinion from what I've seen
Russ is good to me but I see him as a guy that only trusted his teammates when he was going for those triple double records and greatness and legacy are somewhat defined by moments which for the end result being a win I don't feel like he has more good than bad

Got two pairs of his crazy sneakers too recently and they are awesome!!!
I love russ and have defended him for years but this discussion proves why there is a space for media lol like to watch him play and not be able to still be critical just cuz he plays hard is weird. It also shows why balance is everything cuz if your calling card is how hard you play but i costs your team at times; logically you should figure out how to dial it back at times.
Ty Lue has a allegiance to LBJ and Klutch sports. Forcing Russell Westbrook as a 6th man with regulated minutes helps create the narrative that Russ was the problem with Lakers. Lue can't have Russell Westbrook ball out as a starter it'll be a media distraction that'll make LBJ & company look bad.
Whuttttt 🧐🤨🤨🤨😒😒😒😒 Russ can’t run point. He can’t win with other stars. Him winning mvp especially over the more deserving harden has solidified not only his but his fans delusion. I never doubted Westbrook nun of them other teams knew how to use him after he left OKC the clipper fit right in with him because that teams gona play defense and get bck on offense which make it alot easier for westbrook to shine when he can

But I've seen him with my own eyes be brilliant so many times and then throw it all away at the end of the game because of his bad decision making. And that's why I wouldn't want him on my team if we trying to win a chip.

Russ deserves the outmost respect after all the disrespect he's gotten over the past decade and a half, I'd argue he's a top 3 PG of all time with a ring that's the only thing he hasn't done. He's just saying that because he grew up in Russ's area. Ask me growing up in Portland I'd tell you that Terrell Brandon and Damon Stoudemire should be HOFers 😂
The media helped Russ win an MVP he didn’t deserve. James Harden had better stats and a better seed but Russ won because he was the poor victim when KD left and everyone hated him. There’s literally videos of Steven Adams moving out of the way so Russ could grab the rebounds. Russ knew those stats would win the MVP even if he was the 6th seed. It was a nice feel good story. Harden was 2 rebounds away from a triple double and had the 3rd seed.
A big part of why fans disrespect Russ is his flaws are aesthetically bad. Like boneheaded turnovers or airballing a shot are bad. The problem is people use this to negate every productive thing he does, while also stigmatizing his production as “stat padding”

I remember okc vs the sixers in 3ot back in 2018 I think, Lord have mercy, I remember russ dunking like in 2nd ot like it was the first 5 mins, now that's something to brag about. That season when he won mvp and carried okc to the playoffs was serious business.
Not only has always played hard he's had 7 seasons he played 80 games 3 of those he played all 82. He was still the most explosive guy on the floor. Even with all the hate he still remains a good dude. First ballot all day long.
Russ deserves just as much love as AI.
those who watched westbrook in real life know that you just can't win with him.
Allen Iverson… is the only one that gave the same effort every game.
Kobe and kg also
@@yungface012 Kobe yes, KG... no
As an OKC fan, Russ was the fan favorite from the very beginning over KD & Harden. My favorite player ever is Kobe, Russ is a close second
I love this game so much. And the player that made me fall in love and showed the exact same love was Westbrook. Brodie was and is my personal goat.
I absolutely love Russ, but during his peak he rested on defense. I’m not faulting him because he had to do everything offensively, but I watched every OKC game I could during his prime years and he didn’t come close to maxing out on that end of the ball.
4:12 “There’s no number to effort” facts say it louder for everyone!!!
I like this. Make giving flowers a series. Russell played harder than every one 6:10
Brodie has always been my favorite player
Westbrook is gonna have a Allen iverson type career he will get his flowers and love once he’s retired which is honestly sad because he is a legend
Thank you Gil! Russ fans appreciate this!
😂😂😂😂😂 and this is why we talk bad about Russ
you gargling his balls odee relax ur jaw
Russ definitely gave his all when he played, BUT his greatest flaw is not understanding his place. In my own opinion had he understood and played like KD was #1 and he was #2 they would have won the championship against Golden State. Its the equivalent of Pippen trying to take as many shots as Jordan..................it just doesn't work!
Y’all praise russ for giving 110% but that’s only on offense. He plays no defense. I feel like if we gonna talk about who’s the all time hustler, we gotta incorporate both sides of the ball. Before I get slander, I’m an OKC fan and I absolutely love russ and hate how the media treats him
The only ones who feel that way are casuals.
When it's all said and done, Russell Westbrook DEFINITELY up there with the great ones! Shout out to Russell Westbrook.
Not even top 100💯
Averaged a triple double multiple seasons... of Lebron did that , the narrative would be way different
Love this podcast for always keeping it a 💯
My fav basketball player
Rodman.... KG.... Kobe.... Jordan!!!
Russ is good to me but I see him as a guy that only trusted his teammates when he was going for those triple double records and greatness and legacy are somewhat defined by moments which for the end result being a win I don't feel like he has more good than bad
He told his Bigs to let him get rebounds. Former teammates even said it. He was out for self. Great talent but people got caught in the explosiveness and offensive aggression and missed the flaws that they would ordinarily spot
@@aaronjohnson6622 I watched his games he had wide open shots and he passed it just to make sure he got an assist as well and the way he treated the media after bad losses is just as bad
Gilbert smiling hard
Wolves fan but never had a problem with russ, always loved him ....he's that dog you want.

Ask KD about Russ. Yeah, I'm saying that. ASK KD 'bout RUSS!
Russ is definitely a G he's gonna give you his heart every game that's FACTS
Russ is the engine that keeps on running for real. Love hin or hate hin, the guy is a work horse and you have to respect that. He is the definition of never give up and give it everything you got. He deserves the utmost respect on his work ethic alone.
🤦♂️ the problem is not even his supporters ever mention a skill he has. So everyone else just hears "heart" and "effort" and that argument just gets old. Offer up something tangible
he got most his rebounds with his teamates boxing out the other team. so uncontested rebounds most of his career , its even tracked in numbers
You don't watch the games! He's in the paint rebounding!
@@yungface012 average of around 8 Uncontested rebouds per game, so hes in the paint all by himself for 80% of defensive rebouds almost, teammates let him have in the game plan.
Y'all did it to McCants... It's time to talk about K Mart streeech pants.....this must stop 🛑
if yall played basketball, its kind of hard to box out and rebound with the tallest player on the opposite team, but if someone can block his path and make sure the ball goes to a team mate, that helps a lot
💯 from Kmart
9:20 not just any guard either cause Jason Kidd and Rondo were both considered good rebounding guards. Shit Oscar the triple double king before russ was a point. Only russ faced that criticism which is ridiculous in itself
I will never forgive the lakers staff and the overall media for how they treasted Russ man. He was one of my heros growing up and that'll never change
he wans't playing well bro. He was going 2-13 missing layups and throwing horrible passes to the stands
as soon as he left, they went to the conference finals.
@MindfulAttraction2.0 and they got bounced out in the second round so in the end them losing wasn't Russ's fault
@@MindfulAttraction2.0you wouldn't play well either if your being used as a scape goat and that's just one game dude ave 18,7,7 on 45% shooting wit LA it didn't work because LeBron
Lakers staffs? I thought that was Skip Racist and his supporters
Russell is the 🐐 for me!
The only negative impact of a guard going after a D board is if he doesn’t get it, there’s more than likely a man out in the open with a free shot. Don’t get me wrong, Russ absolutely deserves his flowers BUT his shot selection/turnovers was something that needed to be addressed. A triple double is cool but not if it took 30 shots to get it
Man, I came around on Russ hard over the last few years. Just realized that people are hating for no reason and I eventually started a little hating as well -.-. And I loved Russ from day one. And then all this hate came out about him and it was nonstop!!! The dude has been a pure ball of energy from day one and he still is and never stopped. He had and will have boneheaded plays and bad decisions. But man, nobody in their right mind can disrespect him. He plays hard all the time and is one of the most exciting players of all time. What he has been able to do over his career is crazy and pretty much nobody has done that. Just love Russ and enjoy him while he is still around, we will miss him one day.
I was just talking about this recently , glad you made this video
Ty Lue has a allegiance to LBJ and Klutch sports. Forcing Russell Westbrook as a 6th man with regulated minutes helps create the narrative that Russ was the problem with Lakers. Lue can't have Russell Westbrook ball out as a starter it'll be a media distraction that'll make LBJ & company look bad.
everyone scared to say this.💯💯
Whuttttt 🧐🤨🤨🤨😒😒😒😒 Russ can’t run point. He can’t win with other stars. Him winning mvp especially over the more deserving harden has solidified not only his but his fans delusion. He should have always been a sixth man. You can’t trust him to control the game but people want to overlook because “he plays hard.” But does he play smart?
@@joejett5084 he was winning last year when he got traded to the clippers
Russ is great player on and off the court he gives the game his all
I never doubted Westbrook nun of them other teams knew how to use him after he left OKC the clipper fit right in with him because that teams gona play defense and get bck on offense which make it alot easier for westbrook to shine when he can
20 20 20... he's done that...
He's welcome in Denver! #LetsGoNuggets
Russ for sure is a hall of famer. I don't think anyone has denied that. He's a freak of nature. All that being said, I wouldn't want him on my team if we trying to win a chip. That doesn't mean he sucks. Or isn't a hall of famer. But I've seen him with my own eyes be brilliant so many times and then throw it all away at the end of the game because of his bad decision making. And that's why I wouldn't want him on my team if we trying to win a chip.
This is a narrative with no evidence. Russ is one of the leading shot makers in multiple metrics in the clutch since 2010. You know nothing of basketball except what the morning shows tell you.
@@setokaiba2711 I work too early to watch morning shows. And I've forgotten more basketball games than you've ever watched. The fact that you brought up metrics like some analytic nerd tells me all u do is read stats online.

Bruh I love Russ and he should absolutely be celebrated for what he’s done but when it comes to winning and hof level play he’s at the bottom whenever we start talking about basketball. Sure he puts in 130% effort on what he wants to do to make his stats look good. Would crowd the paint to grab defensive rebounds over his own bigs instead of contesting shots. Also gives no effort on defense at all.
130% on offense...... 50% on defense Edit: but he I still love his overall effort.

Russ deserves the outmost respect after all the disrespect he's gotten over the past decade and a half, I'd argue he's a top 3 PG of all time with a ring that's the only thing he hasn't done.
There’s literally 5-7 minute videos of Russ stat padding. It is what it is
People that hate on Westbrook numbers praise LeBron for his numbers. It's all based on you who like.
