  • Last year I did a basic video on how to clean a pellet grill. This time I'm going to show you how to deep clean a pellet grill. This video features a deep clean on a Yoder ys640s, but you can apply it to any pellet grill.
    This is really a once a year clean. You can do a basic clean once a month and then do a deep clean in the Spring.
    I didn't have lights to be able to light inside the grill properly so the camera settings I used maybe the color oranger than it really is.

      It won’t stay clean long 😁

    Was doing a late spring cleaning before a round of long cooks and found paint bubbling and rust. Sent several photos to Yoder and asked what can be done. I use the Yoder cover, its located under cover, never seen rain and I clean it regularly. Great videos and I look forward to more!

      Unfortunately, it’s just a reality of having a steel pit. It will happen over time.
      The best thing to do is to get some ACF-50 and give it a coat. That will stop the spread. If the paint is really bubbled, I’d use a rag and knock it all off and then use the ACF-50. That will turn the rust closer to black and stop the spread. If you give it a coat every few months it will keep it at bay. Use some CitruSafe first. I have links in the description.
      I have a video on how to apply it as well. They also say you can use mineral oil as well. 🍻

    Thanks for sharing. Really interesting on the info on your call with Yoder, will be interesting to see your future videos going over more of that. I'm a bit OCD about rust on things too (lived in an apartment on the Ocean for about 6 years and it rusted out everything, including internal parts of my car lol, so not a fan after that). I've been eying some full or mostly 304 SS pellet cookers for that reason like the Pitts & Spitts SS, Coyote, and Mak ones just to save myself from my rust OCD. With that said I really like a couple of the heavy gauge carbon steel ones like your Yoder there and the newly released Lone Star Grillz ones too so definitely good to see the process in cleaning them. Will be interesting to watch your new one and applying that cleaning/sealing process you talked about from the get go and if it fends off the rust.

      Will have a few videos coming out covering topics discussed for sure. The big thing with the rust is it’s just surface, if you lightly sand and spray it early, it’s a quick fix.
      There was a small run on a cover like mine and they leaked water. They have redesigned the cover as well so that added to my issue. The coating is supposed to work extremely well so I’m curious to see how it works.
      Definitely lots of options out there. Tough choice to make.
      Thanks for watching.

    Great video. I use the Zep citrus and it works well. I also picked up a spray can of ACF but have not tried it yet.

      I haven’t tried the Zep Citrius yet. Will have to check it out. Thanks for watching!

    IMO the salts in a rub is the most damaging to the front of these cookers when you pull a cooked meat & it drips on the front. The rust will pit the steel on these if not cleaned up in a reasonable amount of time. I learned that the hard way. I've since fixed it so it looks new again.

      Yep, also the sugars in sauces. Be sure to check out my rust prevention video. That product is supposed to greatly reduce any rust issues. Thanks for watching!

    Very informative! Can you use the PBW on the upper grates as well? Soak overnight?

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  2 года назад

      I haven’t tried it in the top rack, but I don’t see why not. Do Not use it on grill grates. Ruins them.
      Thanks for watching!

    Very suprised that you would spray your yodar with water for cleaning. Just purchased the 640. Per owners manuel directions for cleaning the yodar. said never use water.

      It was covered in dust that you aren’t going to get off another way. As long as you properly dry it, it won’t be an issue if you do it on occasion.
      Keep in mind it was 85+ out and in direct Sun once I moved the umbrella that was proving shade for the video. It dried out in no time.
      It’s going to get wet just by being outside in the rain. The cover isn’t 100% water proof.
      Check out my rust video and put some ACF 50 on it while it’s new. Thanks for watching.

    Hi mate. Do you just vac the pellets out of the hopper when you want to change them?

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  3 года назад +1

      I usually don’t fill it all the way up if I think I’m going to change soon. Then I just scoop out what’s in there by hand.

    How often do you do this ?

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  Год назад

      Usually every Spring or once a year. Then usually a basic clean as needed. 🍻
