    Wish I saw this video before! I did a long cook and my temp was all over the place and I was really Peed off. Sent emails to ATBBQ who referred me to Yoder Customer Service. They responded right away and suggested I run a temperature test and sent me the link. Well, it did it verbatim and my temps were all within 15 degrees**. Had I just set the temp in the beginning and not messed with it as indicated in your video I might have been ok and saved a lot of frustration. **I also did a probe accuracy test after and found out that one of my probes was 10 degrees off! Yoder is sending me a replacement probe.

      Yeah it’s misleading. People see the temp swings and freak out. Most ovens fluctuate by 50 degrees.
      Then you have various brands that show zero fluctuations and people think they have a better pellet grill 🙄. It’s a live fire and fluctuations are normal. Zero fluctuations is an outright lie.

    Looking forward to a temperature check video.
    I picked up the acf 50 after watching the last video and the ys640 looks pretty good but I did notice I have quite a few small rust spots that I hadn't noticed previously.
    Hopefully the acf 50 helps with that.

    When I 1st used my yoder1500 I smoked beef ribs and a brisket it took awhile for my heat to get to temp… I love the Yoder app it’s nice I get the smoker temperature and the prob temperature along with a history the ribs came out fine but the brisket was hard as a brick ($70 wasted) lol next time I will on cook the same type of meat…. This week will be smoked turkey wings… thanks again for the video

    Good info on how Yoder controls temp. Really enjoy your channel. I have done many of your cooks after watching your videos using my Yoder 640, Napoleon built in gasser and XL & MM Big Green Eggs. That Komodo Kamado is a really nice setup!

    Given the unit's temp probe is mounted far left and nearest the lowest rack, are temp difference an issue for Left 1/3, Mid 12/3 and right 1/3 and bottom rack / top rack for protracted low-and-slow cooks? I'm considering a Yonder acquisition.(Nice, to-the-point videos.)

      With any pellet grill the top rack will be cooler. Just the nature of the beast unfortunately. If you’re filling it up just rotate top and bottom or put smaller pieces up top.
      There is a temp difference between those points. Left and right are hotter and middle is the set temp. It depends on outside temp and overall temp setting, but that is a good rule of thumb. This is going to be an issue on any unit, although I would expect left and right to be slightly cooler on a center mounted firebox.
      I like to remind people, your oven has 50 degree swings easy and you still can turn out good food. Digital thermometers have made people crazy 😜. Having tried another popular brand, I’m really happy with my Yoder and I paid full price for it. No brand bias.

    If you look on your fireboard app, during the cook, it will show you the auger "speed". Don't know what the numbers mean but it is constantly feeding pellets.

    What is a good pellet for consistent temps? I had a bag of Weber pellets that burnt great but I can’t find them anymore. I’ve been frustrated with the other pellet’s lately.

    My question/confusion is where to set the heat damper on the bottom for slow cooks and where to put a large piece of meat relative to the damper placement. Set it left, right or center,?

      Check the manual but the default setting is 4 or 6” pushed in. I pretty much leave it there 99% of the time. I only push it in when doing a high temp sear. It doesn’t make a huge difference. I’ll be doing a video on it soon. Thanks for watching. 🍻

      Well it does block the right side of the cook chamber from direct flame (heat) exposure.

    Just got my Yoder couple days ago!
    I think for the most part when one drops that kind of money on a pellet grill you'd expect as close to target temp as possible. I was skeptical about my purchase after a few cooks but what you said made me feel more at ease. When I set the temp at 225, my temps at time fluctuate +15/-15... Would you say that normal?

      Congrats! Yes perfectly normal. It will vary depending on brand of pellet as well. Some will be less. I’ve seen it be 5 degrees. Yoder shows you true temps all the time. This is not true with all brands. All cookers have temp swing. Thanks for watching! 🍻

    Just got my YS640S and test run it 3 times and my temps are over 50 degrees from the set temperature. The probe is brand new and clean, but temp is still off. Waiting on tech support right now.

      They will probably get you to do a calibration test. Did you let it stabilize for at least 20 minutes?

      There is no such thing as a flatline stable cook. Temp swings are normal, the goal was to help minimize them.
      You are dealing with a live fire. If your pellet grill shows you a flat line it’s lying. It’s impossible. 🍻

    Great video! I am new to the Yoder ys640 and still learning. So, today I did Wings and was really disappointed that they were pretty dry...they were crispy, but not juicy at all. Do you have any suggestions on getting a better result? Thanks

      Dry the skin as much as possible. If you can, put them on a rack in the fridge for min 4 hours. Overnight is great if you have the time.
      Once you have dry skin you can cook at a lower temp for half of the cook to get some smoke and then crank up at the end to get the crispy wing. Big thing is cook to temp, 195 max. 175-185 is preferred.

      I have used that on occasion, but more so in my air fryer. I also don’t put any oil on my wings. Getting them super dry is the trick and then heat. The heat releases fat which helps crisp the wings.
      Smoked wings take some practice, but you’ll get it!

      Haha no worries.
      If I’m going to grill them I will set it to 450 and cook them over the firebox with the diffuser door in. Cook 7-8 mins a side.
      If you want to smoke them, do at 250-275 for 30 and then crank it up to 450-500 and finish over the firebox. Can also cook at 375 the whole time on top rack.
      Depends how Smokey you want them. Can also go 225 for 30-40 on top middle in the smoke and then finish over grill grates and plate removed.

    Ive had a yoder for 10 years it used to change temps pretty quick and adjust fast. Its ( GARBAGE ) now. And at 225 the true ambient temp is about 135. At 325 its around 225. True ambient temp test on multiple thermometors and two infrareds. They all match 75-100 degrees off from the yoder controller set temp. You can blame pellets are the winds of god. I win ribbons on my yoder i know
    My yoder its not the same. Its garabage now. Screw the temps right on power grates. Ambient temp in the whole
    Chamber shiuld be good other wise make it smaller cause the rest is a waste

      So a 10 year old pit doesn’t work as good as it used to and you now Yoder pits are garbage?
      Have you cleaned your pit probe properly? Have you contacted support or tried changing the pit probe to see if that resolves the issue. Clearly something is not working properly. It’s 10 years old! Did you expect it to work forever without requiring any maintenance? What a silly comment. 🙄🍻

      If your pit is 80 degrees lower after properly preheating it then there is an issue with it. Call support. 🍻

      @@RumandCook i have called and emailed. Still waiting. This is all brand new and mane it takes 35 minutes to drop to temp when it goes over on initial
      Start up. They used to change temp and catch up mich faster. If i wanna fast cook ribs and i set it at 265 degrees and the actual ambient temp is only 190 im not fast cooking ribs 😂😂
