That looks absolutely fantastic. Yes, the temp will come up in the center when you rest because the outside is hotter and it will make its way to the center. If you don't let them rest you'll have crispy edges with an uncooked center.
Just purchased my Yoder 640S. I'm new to the smoking community. Thank you for the videos, very helpful and appreciated! Great video. Tomahawk's look amazing!
G'day from Aus....nice cook there, I have the same set-up but usually do my steaks on my kamado... will have to break out the grill grates (still in the box) and give this a go! 👍
Like your Channel very much. Presentation is honest, but the key is your sincerity. It come through. Bottom Line: You're just a 'Very Nice Guy, aren't you'! Thanks. Thinking seriously about getting a Yoder to compliment my Large BGE. Steve from Florida and Mexico.
I love my Yoder Easy Bake Oven! Easiest and most convenient pellet grill I have ever used. I have some delmonico tomahawks I’m cooking tonight. Great video!
love the channel. Just got my yoder today after 2 months of waiting and I can’t wait to use it. Thanks for the videos. I am a newbie when it comes to cooking anything so these videos really help. Appreciate you taking the time brother
Great video! I watched your video when you put together your Yoder and now I got to see it in action. I was interested how the grill grates would work and you did that - thanks dude! Those steaks looked awesome too!
I just bought a Yoder 640 with those anodized aluminum grates. They told me that I needed to not go over 450 degrees with them or they would warp. Doesn’t look like its a problem for you.
Awesome content! Tomahawks are my jam! I've been using a traeger timberline and a charcoal weber for searing - but I ordered the YS640 last week for the grilling feature to make life easy... Great review video on the smoker a well!
Thank you, I LOVE Tomahawks as you can see!! I think you're going to like the Yoder. The build quality is heavy duty to say the least. Not knocking the Traeger, they work great also.
@@grillmastere I'll knock Traeger for you. I have the Timberline 1300 and I just posted it online after I ordered my YS640S. Timberline searing capabilities are a joke!
You know the amazing thing is Malcom Reed on how to bbq right did a test on resting meat. He covered one steak with foil and not the other one. His results were that the uncovered steak rose in temperature more than the covered steak. Go check out his video. By the way you did an excellent job on the video and wow what a beautiful yard and house. God bless you.
I'm looking at a pellet smoker vs traditional. What bothers me so much is the technical components of pellet grills. I've read the comments about preplacing this board, fans etc and it just seems to take the fun out of smoking and grilling. I mean it looks like a fine end product, the food, but we've all done the same on traditional grills and smokers.
They both have their pros and cons. Can't beat the simplicity of a pellet smoker. I haven't had many issues with mine. Can't beat the experience of an offset smoker, and you get a slightly better product. That being said, it's a lot of work, and there's a lot more to go wrong. You're going to be happy either way.
@@grillmastere we ended up buying the Yoder with comp cart. We couldn't be happier. The Smokin Brothers struggled to get over 375 but not with the Yoder.
Yes, they are sitting above the fire window. There's a heat deflector that has a window that can be removed to expose the fire directly to the meat. The grill grates replace the normal grill racks. I guess you could place them on top of the racks but I just replace them. Hope that helps!
Yes, those were very thick steaks 2.5". I seared 1 minute, then shifted to get the diamond sear mark for another minute. I then repeated on the other side. Use your instant read thermometer to make sure you're not over cooking 👍 Good Luck 😎
Hi just wondering if you are getting consistent Temps with your yoder. And where do you keep your displacement damper. That's the hardest thing for me to figure out is where to keep the damper
My experience with this unit is still limited but I have been getting pretty consistent results since they replaced my control board. So I had this same question and I actually interviewed one of their support people and as I understand it, the damper was more important in their older smokers. They've since changed a lot with how their fans work and they said it's not as critical as it used to be. They said I should run it all the way out for the most consistent cook. They said push it all the way in if I'm searing steaks. Anything in between doesn't seem to matter anymore. I'll keep playing with it and report back.
I was going well until there were mains and desert on the same plate... How American is that?.. I'll keep the Aussie way and enjoy the separate courses.. Great steaks though...
You skipped videoing the main reason I came to watch this. I wanted to see how the grill goes from indirect heat to direct flames. What exactly is the process? Did you have the take the grill apart? Can you do it while it's still hot from smoking? I'm not going to spend this kind of money on a grill if I can't EASILY go from smoking to grill or sear. There are other cheaper pellet grills on the market that can do this with an external lever.
Sorry, there’s a little window in the diffuser. You just lift it out when you’re ready to seat. Some people take it out in the beginning of the cook and use the insert griddle as a diffuser of sorts.
Thinking about buying the Yoder versus traveler ironwood

Best review yet of the Yoder that i've found! I get mine in about 30 days and can't wait!
Thank you! You're going to LOVE it 😎
About to buy the 640S in Israel. Thanks a lot for the video and now I will also get the Direct GrillGrates (with Tool)...

I appreciate that!
I followed the exact method in this video tonight on my Tomahawk Wagyu Ribeye and it was the best steak I've ever had in my life.

I have a pellet pro 1190. Love the grill grates. Now I'm buying a yodder ys640 in July. Can't wait
Really good explanation of the technique. I’d prefer less loud background music though.
Thanks, still honing my video editing skillz 😁
Good job with this video. I've been considering this purchase for years and your product review was VERY insightful.
Just unloaded my YS640 from the pallet last night. Can't wait to assemble it and have a reverse seared steak!
I hope your back is ok 😂 Have fun and report back!
Damn man that looked so good and definitely a natural on camera
Liking what I see
How did you season your yoder
Great video, love that the whole family was involved in the the meal, the final plate looked delicious! Are you still happy with your Yoder grill?
Great video, what clean up do you need to do after a sear? Does the grease drippings mess up anything?

I ordered a Yoder 640 looking forward to using it.
Currently have two Kamado Joe's.
I like both styles. Hope you enjoy!

Thanks Gary 👍

Glad you liked it! Great product 😎
Yes sir first time here. Awesome.

How does Yoder compare to Smokin Brothers?
Not sure, haven’t used theirs
@@grillmastere we ended up buying the Yoder with comp cart. We couldn't be happier. The Smokin Brothers struggled to get over 375 but not with the Yoder.
That looks yummy!
It was!
Ambient temps outside, pellet wood type, total time to reach 100* internal?
After i watched this i was hungry and went to get a tomahawk to smoke
That's awesome!
Hell Yeah looks good
Do you have the grill grates sitting directly above the fire or are they sitting on top of the regular grill racks?

So, you seared each of those steak roughly 4 minute's each? Shifting and flipping them in 1 minute cycles? Liked and now subscribed

Correct, what I have read for searing damper in, low and slow, out depending how much realestate your using for the cook.
Does the whole grill get up to 600 deg, or just the left side of the grill?
I’m going to do some more testing with temperature probes. The main probe is over the fire box. I’ll let you know what the stack side is at 👍
@@grillmastere Thanks!! I'm interested to know.
Do you have an update to this question?
Which wood pellets do you use?
Been using Hickory CookinPellets lately. I use the Traeger ones also, just because they're easy to get 👍
They look marbled like Prime rather than Waygu. I prefer salt and pepper only on Waygu. They should have lots of flavor on there own.
I was going well until there were mains and desert on the same plate... How American is that?.. I'll keep the Aussie way and enjoy the separate courses.. Great steaks though...
Any issues with ash? I seem to get ash flying around when trying to sear
Not that I've noticed.. I wonder if you were in a cross wind?
Are you going to release any rubs of your own kind
That actually is my plan one day when I get RUclips famous 😂😂
How was my horseradish sauce?? It takes the whole jar of horseradish :)
It was awesome!
Everything looked really good. But Sour cream on a cake??? I love sour cream but that is an odd combo.
Very odd was my first thought also. Give it a try, it's going to shock you.
rocksssssssssssss
It's pretty cool 😎
