VW usually produces the cars for Europe in Europe. This means the costs for labor, bureaucracy and energy are much higher (more than two times the costs compared to China). The taxes in China are also different. I don't know if they are included in the named prices. But I know that there is a tax rate of 0% for electric cars, but I don't know how it is for a car like in the video.
Skoda and Seat are usually the cheaper options by VW in Europe (VW owns Skoda and Seat). It is not possible for VW to produce more price competitive in Europe.

However chinese assembly factory worker is paid Id assume the equivalent of 1000 euro per month while the German guy is paid 3000 euro per month. If this Volkswagen Passat is made in China I could see it being a big part in it. But I think this is much different issue, since China now produces amazing electric vehicles, traditional car makers have to sell ICE cars at lower price to compete. While in Europe traditional carmakers have a complete monopoly because EVs are so expensive due to various tarrifs.

It uses engine technology, which is worse than electric but this car is pretty good overall. Its over 40 000 euro in Europe and people are happily buying it. The Chinise price is very good

@vgstb on one hand the West bash the hell out of China because they know China will wipe the floor with them (hence the tariffs etc) then simultaneously design cars specifically for the Chinese market because they know its THE biggest car market in the world as a last cry for help. It's inevitable that these western rip off car manufacturers are free falling, and it's about time. The average Chinese citizen now has access to some of the most luxurious and technological advanced vehicles at a price most people on the planet don't.

You dont mention that you have to live in Chinas big cities, to be able to buy such car. And living in a big city in China means that the price for a license plate for a combustion engine car can rank up the price above the level of European prices. So unless you are lucky you can keep your 20k€ VW in the garage or at the parking lot or pay an incredible price for a registration. And to all the Germans complaining about higher prices. You have a minimum wage of approx. 2500€ per month. So manufacturing a car in Germany will always be more expensive in comparison to China, where minimum wage is 370€ per month in Shanghai, which is the highest among all provinces. And I know that B9 Passat is made in Slovakia where minimum wage is less than 1000€ per month, I just want to point out that if you want cheap cars, let them be manufactured in China, maybe even developed in China and you will have nowhere to work because half of your economy is based on cars. And my opinion why the Chinese Passat is so cheap is, that they didnt have to do nearly any development, thus lower prices as well. They took at least 90% of the European developed Passat.

Well, the station wagon is just more versatile, hauling even the biggest IKEA college-kid-apartment shopping spree with ease.
Unless put in relation to economic stats like per capita/household income etc., converting Chinese domestic market prices _one-for-one_ to Euro is moot, even misleading. In the same sense, cars from Chinese brands are obviously not sold at directly converted prices in the European market.

It's like comparing a horse and kart to the types of advanced vehicles China have 😂 Why would you even buy that when you can get a full self driving, safer, better looking, electric - battery, swapable vehicle for the same money?
