I wanted one in Western Maryland but was told by Rapido they weren't going to make that version and paint scheme so I purchased a new version by Bachmann. Your reviews of both convinced me I dodged the bullet getting the Bachmann. I prefer Soundtrax T2 decoders to LOKsound and each engine has different trade-off items. After I got my Bachmann I noticed Rapido did come out with a WM version after all. They blew it with their comment and lost a sale to my benefit.
Always enjoy your reviews of new products. Thanks!

Sure wish you would do long term reviews on the locomotives you review. Most of them seem to work perfectly right out of the box. But after some usage is another story. Or at least it seems to be in my case.

I almost bought this at a train show last weekend but i wanted it in SP paint and they had just about every livery but SP, I’m not really into center cab switchers and like my HM10-44 and SP 70 tonner, but I intend on either buying a SP Vo-1000 or a UP NW1 or 2, considering my second layout is a industrial park layout with a small sceniced staging yard set anywhere between the 40’s-up to late 50’s but it’s freelance so I’ll likely run my BN and ATSF 4 axle units for more modern runs for fun. Nice little unit tho the 70 tonner is by far the smallest engine I’ve ever bought I think it was like 5.25 inches long, and it’ll be used for picking and setting cars in the industrial park inbetween the train that brings in and takes out the industrial parks cars to the staging yard. Loved the way the sound of this unit is tho like a tractor chugging

Rapido looks like they geared it down some for switching. This thing cries out for some nice weathering.

Looks nice. UP had only the ONE 44-tonner and they struggled to find a use for it. I'm really waiting for the CB&Q version (differrent Phase from what they have produced in the first release). I will need the Burlington version!

Great review. I picked up a red undec model. Yes it is very slow but a great runner. Mine came with some extra add on parts which I only know what a few are.

Great video, James. Looks like a cool locomotive.
I’m looking forward to Botchmann’s ALCO C-415 next year. I have three of those on preorder.

Your recording makes it sound better and louder than it really is right out of the box. Rapido could've used a better speaker.
    Thanks for sharing. 👍🐾👍

I agree, the speaker's sound quality is not that great.

All model trains go fast, the ones that impress me go slow. I have plenty of switch engines that don't like switches. I will be keeping my eyes out for one of these. Perhaps they will make a NKP 'Mighty 90" ?

Question: Does anyone know if ESU has added Automatic Direction Sounds? Two toots for Forward; one for Stopped; three for Reverse? Nice feature IMHO that Soundtraxx and some others have had for some time. I hope ESU has it now.

I've also read early owners are unhappy with the horn and bell.

There are horn options, I'd tried a few but it's more with the speaker quality than the horns themselves.
