we still have some of these style of engine working here in Australia, they are a locally built EMD units that are basically a SD40 with a F style nose and F45ish body.......they sound incredible!
The prototypes, which ended active service on the BN Metra, served Chicago's Western Suburbs (now BNSF Metra). They also had Mars lights which were used quite a bit in foggy and snowy conditions.
I got a ride behind one of the IC E9s on the executive train west out of Waterloo Iowa back in the 90s. I have photos of them hitching up from the inside of the theater car.
😍 Beautiful Burlington Northern E9! Beats out the old Life-Like F40 Burlington Northern 9987. 🚅 Burlington Northern 9915, Metra Hi-level, Metra Hi-level, Metra Hi-level, Metra Hi-level, Metra Hi-level, Metra Hi-level
My only criticism is that the mufflers have a solid pipe coming out of them and it's not just Rapido, but all the manufacturers do this. At least Rapido hollow out the horns and they look excellent. Great review, Jersey Bill
I have the 9915 and 9904. They did blow it on the beacon. It should be on a three point stand as I understand it. In addition, I had to take Tamiya clear orange and paint the beacon. They missed the wind deflectors as well. Great video, James. Happy Thanksgiving. Cheers from Tomball, TX
You can get the locomotive DCC ready. That said, you can run the sound equipped versions on DC, but it's not recommended. If you do, make sure it's with a powerpack that doesn't have pulse control, as the voltage spikes could damage or even destroy the decoder! Also, the locomotive has a 22-inch minimum recommended radius.

9915 still exists today as slrg 2402 and since been sold to ltex, although its in pretty rough shape and unlikely to run again
Outstanding!!! This makes me want to sell my N scale and go all in on HO🤦
Very nice. Still waiting for the 9925 in Iowa Pacific paint. We have a history.
Nice review James. Why is the base horn (Blast) different from the doppler horn (3-chime)?
