- In this video, we'll be comparing two fried bologna sandwiches: Wilensky's and The Mitt's. Both sandwiches are famous for their unique flavors and have a loyal fan following. We'll be looking at the key differences between the two sandwiches and providing our verdict on which one is better.
First up is Wilensky's fried bologna sandwich. This sandwich is a classic and has been around for over 70 years. It's made with thick-sliced fried bologna and salami served on a soft bun. The sandwich is simple, yet delicious and has been a staple in the Montreal food scene for generations. On the other hand, The Mitt's fried bologna sandwich is a more modern take on the classic. It features thinner slices of bologna, crisp bacon & melted cheese. Both sandwiches have their unique flavor profiles, and we can't wait to compare them side by side! Griddle on!

Love the new open! Keep up the great videos.
Thanks so much for the kind words Mike! Griddle on buddy!
Love fried bologna, but I like it crispy fried!
Never tried fried "thin" bologna slices, ours were always very thick. We need to give these a try as they are like you guys said, quick and easy. Also love the new introduction video!
Thank you for your comment! I'm glad you enjoyed the introduction video and I hope you give the fried thin bologna slices a try. They're definitely a quick and easy treat that's worth trying out. Happy cooking! 😊 -N
Frying it brings out so much flavor, had it since I was kid
I saw the bird and no doubt it was Chris watching! Both sandwiches looked very tasty.
:-D LOL. Thanks Mike! And as usual, thanks for taking the time to watch and comment! Griddle on bud! -N
Fried bologna sandwiches rock! Great video, guys well done. I've made the Wilensky often here at home, now I got to try the Catcher's Mitt.
What an awesome intro!!! Cool effects and looked badass!
-Kevin from Texas!
thanks for the kind words Kevin! we will share with the editor! Cheers buddy! -N
My dad never cooked but he did make us 6 kids fried Bologna sandwiches on Sunday. We loved them. Our were fried in a bit of butter and put on white bread or hard rolls. No other things on them except mustard for those who like it. 40+ years later he still cooks them and my sibs make them too. Great memories you brought to mind!
Skip the mustard Winnie and try Mayo ,! and maybe add american cheese oh so good !
Bologna is a the real deal comfort food.
We need MORE of this!
That is such a cool thing for the pub to offer free food😊 Nice comparison, Nate👍
Good to hear from you Bobbi! Hope your doing well! I agree with you, Offering the free food would bring more of a family / community atmosphere. He watched the video and loved it lol. Hope your week flies by and your weekend is great Bobbi! -N
I’ve had fried bologna sandwiches but never with cheese, salami or bacon. Wow, what an epiphany, I’m going to try all of them on one bun. Thanks for the inside track for this sandwich. You guys never fail to deliver. Also, like the new opening video splash!
Great to hear from you KC! We're happy to hear that we could inspire you to take your sandwich game to the next level. We appreciate your kind words about our video and the new opening video splash. Thanks for your comment and happy sandwich making! P.S. Thanks for being a subscriber! -N
Fried bologna sandwiches are great! That was a frequent lunch when we were kids. We'd fry each slice individually, not in stacks. I've never tried one with bacon or cheese. We always had them plain, but I have a freakish aversion to mustard.
Hi Ryan! Thanks for sharing your childhood lunch memories, and I hope you try adding bacon and cheese for a delicious twist (sans mustard, of course). 😜 And thanks for taking the time to comment! we appreciate it! -N
Nice sandwich Guys! Never had a fried bologna before, but think I may try this version. Nice introduction also! Cheers fellas 🍻
Great to hear from you Bat! I can't guarantee you will be as impressed as I was but.... Both were a heck of alot better tasting than I was expecting. So good in fact I plan to make them again! As always we appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment! -N
Good stuff! Greetings from Norway
Norway! That is so cool! Thanks for checking in! Cheers to you Private! :D -N
Both look great guy’s awesome job.
Thanks for the kind words Zeb~! and for watching! -N
Like the new intro. I have been eating fried bologna sandwiches for years. I like to add a little hot sauce instead of mustard. Really good sandwich.
Nice! Love the hot sauce suggestion! I will give it a shot next go around. Appreciate you taking the time to comment Peter! Griddle on bud! -N
Growing up in Binghamton, NY I grew up in an Eastern European neighborhood. One of the neighborhood bars (Yonda's) put out free food every weeknight around 10 PM (while the old men played cards or pool). One of his specialties was bologna sandwiches....this brought back some great memories! RIP Yonda and bologna :) Also grew up on them because they were fast and cheap so my Polish Grandma made them all of the time.
Wow Arlene! This sounds EXACATLY like what Jimmy does! I know I gave him a hard time in the video but,,, in a way it is sort of heart warming. Sharing free food with friends and family. Sounds like a great experience you had back then! Thank you for watching and for sharing! Cheers! -N
love the new intro boyz, when it comes to showing Chris: You should have no music, but chirping birds and a blank screen. Fried bologna sandwiches are the bomb cooking them for years
Thanks for the kind words William!! I honestly can't believe I have never had one before. I was really surprised by how good they are. Both of them, outstanding! We will def be making them again! Thanks for being a sub! Griddle on bud! -N
My family is from Nova Scotia and I grew up on fried bologna sandwiches
Fellow nova scotian here!!! Fried balogna was a regular meal!!
I heard maple leaf brand makes a distinctive flavor for us east coasters, not sure if true!!
Nice job guys I love fried Bologna Sandwiches. Try to upscale next time with some grilled onions and non of that salami stuff.
Thanks for the suggestions Rocky and oh yah, totally agree! Griddle on bud! -N :D

I actually made a Boujee Bologna Sandwich recipe video today. That's actually how I found this video. I was looking to see what other bologna sandwich videos are on RUclips. I'd like to be a contender next time you have a fried bologna sandwich cook off. Nice vid Gents, subscribed.
Cheers and welcome to the Griddle Guys fam! - C
1/4" thick cut of bologna is the best but you have to make cuts on the edges so it does not curl and leave a burn mark in the middle. One of the longest food lines at the California Farm Show is for fried bologna sandwiches.
I’ve never had a fried bologna sandwich, but these sound and look absolutely delicious
They are ! But no mustard , Mayo is the way to go !
@@williamh192 I’m not a mayo fan, but am a mustard lover
As a Canadian when we go to Montreal we get smoked meat sandwiches, didn't know fried bologna was popular there.
Fried bologna is called a Newfie steak.
When we make fried bologna we fry both sides, add to toast and top with ketchup
Ketchup!!! :D Ketchup???? LOL, now that is one that I have never tried! Interesting combo. I am going to try it next week! and see if the kids like it! thanks for suggesting Jennifer! Salut! -N
Fried bologna is hard to beat 👊👊 Twisted
LMAO, we see what you did there twisted LOL :D -N
Pro tip cut the bologna in four corners about half an inch and a slit in the center! Will keep it flat and not dome up! Great job guys
Thanks Grillmaster! Will do next time,,, it def did dome up. Great tip! -N
I think frying each slice separately and getting some char would greatly enhance the flavor experience
Thank you for your comment! I appreciate your suggestion and will definitely consider it for my next cooking video. Happy cooking! Griddle onbud! -N
Wielenskys was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. It’s bologna (quality) and salami with cheese and mustard. It goes welll with a sweet beverage. You guys missed the cheese and being there the bread was something different and so amazing. I’ve tried to replicate 5-6 times and failed.
That's it ! I'll never stop before I try the wielensky!
There is a local country general store/ deli that serves one called the big Wayne. Extra thick sliced bologna served with cheese. Kinda like a grilled cheese. It is Awesome 😎. Toppings to order. Yes they grill the bologna then make it a grilled cheese.
Hi Chad! Thank you for your comment! The Big Wayne sounds absolutely delicious. I'll have to keep an eye out for a local country general store/deli next time I'm craving a hearty sandwich. Happy eating! 😊 -N

Love the new opening sequences. I grew up with fried bologna and fried salami, but surprisingly, never on the same sandwich...who knew??!! My father would fry them, cut them up and put them in scrambled eggs for us. To this day, I love frying them. Even if it's just to eat them by themselves. Great, easy and quick cook!
You need smoke thick sliced bologna with Toasted Bun lettuce tomato onion the best there is got to have some char
Whats up OldeT?! Thanks for being a sub!! I'm glad you enjoyed the new opening sequences and it's always interesting to hear about different ways people enjoy fried bologna and salami. Frying them and adding them to scrambled eggs is a great idea, and I appreciate you sharing your experience. Happy cooking! 😊 - N

Can yall do a smoke Bologna.
Hi Paul,,, A ton of people have suggested this. Answer is yes, at some point we will! Thanks for watching! -N
Ate them as a child, in the 50.'s. Just fried bologna with mustard on toasted white bread. Still do them today, at 75. May try adding some grilled onion or jalapeño.
Grew up with Fried bologna sandwiches, local butcher shop had garlic bologna and it was sliced a lot thicker. We would cut 3-4 slits on the outside so it would fry flat and cooked each piece separately! Cheese or no cheese but usually with ketchup!
Sounds great! Sadly I have never seen garlic bologna in my area so I may never get the chance to try this. If I do come across it though, I will def be all over it! Thanks for taking the time to post Phil! Griddle on bud! -N
Grew up on fried Bologna sandwiches..just in the last 20 or so years started putting cheese and salad dressing on them..
As you saw in the video, I have def been missing out! Thanks for watching Jon! Cheers! -N
We used to buy the bologna in log form and cut 1/4 inch thick slices, cut it like a 4 leaf clover and fry it. Mayo tomato lettuce, perfect
Hi Yo Pops! Thank you for your comment! Your way of slicing the bologna sounds interesting and I'm sure it adds a unique texture. Your sandwich sounds delicious, and I appreciate the idea. Happy cooking! 😊 -N
Fun video, nice job! Hey, Weber has a couple new griddles in their lineup now. Would you guys consider reviewing one or at least trying one out? Weber's got a huge following....
Thanks for being a subscriber Bama! Yup we saw the new webber griddle and have reached out to them. Hopefully they are open to working together. They generally make real nice stuff so we can't wait to see what they did for the griddle! Cheers! -N
grew up on fried bologna sandwiches! mayo is great on them!
CJ,,, Couldn't agree more! Mayo is great on everything! LOVE IT! Cheers bud! Hope your doing well! -N
I love doing fried bologna like a grilled cheese with a little mayo on the inside. I've done 1 with horses radish.
Try "Plain Loaf" - It has a different taste. Fry 3/4 slices separately, flipped once. Then
stack them with a slice of Provolone in the middle. Put them on toast with whatever condiment you desire!
Fried blony we called it I'm from Pittsburgh in Florida now still turn people on to it. Never failed people love it.
Thanks for watching Richard. I can see why people love it. Taste so much better than cold bologna. Griddle on bud! -N
Fried balogna makes an awesome sandwich. I make my own balogna and salami, and (sorry about patting myself on the back) its even better than what you get in the deli. I cut it at least ¼" thick, and an egg is awesome. If you really want to take it to another level, fried balogna grilled with egg and cheese. Delish.
Whoa! You make your own??? U should post a video on THAT! I would watch it! :D Cheers Donald! -N
I like the new layout but your camera are flipping so fast between the two it makes you kind of dizzy watching it
Hi Jay! Thanks so much for taking the time to give feedback, we will work on it! Cheers! -N :D
Great video guys! Would y'all like to try what we call cloth bologna here in Virginia? It's kind of a staple down here.
HI Floyd... cloth bologna? I am going to have to look that one up. Never hear of it. I assume you would recommend it? Thanks -N
@@TheGriddleGuys absolutely recommend, some people also call it rag bologna.
When I lived in Ohio there was (don't know if it's still there) a place called The Red Door Tavern. They had a fried baloney sandwich called the hobo steak sandwich. I never had it. Call me strange but I despise baloney. I won't eat it. Keep up the good work, watching your videos is always enjoyable. I just looked it up, the sandwich is called "Sally's Hillbilly Burger. Lol. The menu said its topped with pepper cheese, lettuce and tomato on a kaiser bun.
Hi Steve! Thanks for being a subscriber and for taking the time to comment! We appreciate it! More to come! Next up is Chris turning out some pizza's! Should be posted on Friday! Cheers! -N

I love fried bologna sandwiches. I sometimes go to the deli and get 1/2" slices, but most often 3 or 4 regular ones. American cheese is a must, as it mustard on untoasted white bread. Gooooood!
Good to hear from you Howard! Hope you are well! Thanks for watching and sharing your love for fried bologna sandwiches! Your method of getting 1/2" slices from the deli sounds like a great idea. I also agree that American cheese and mustard are essential ingredients for a delicious sandwich. Appreciate the tip! Griddle on bud! -N
Love a fried bologna egg & cheese. Haven’t tried it like these though
Fried kielbasa is good too! But you need a good quality kielbasa
Also, the bbq pit boys grilled some thick cut bologna a few times
Haven’t tried it myself, but it looks good
Thanks for watching my video! I'm glad you enjoyed the fried bologna, egg, and cheese sandwich. Fried kielbasa sounds like a delicious alternative as well, as long as you have good quality kielbasa. I'll have to check out the BBQ Pit Boys' grilled bologna recipe too. Thanks for the suggestion! Cheers! -N
We always add a mountain of sauteed onions to our fried bologna sandwiches,it makes them scrumdiddlyishis !
Love this suggestion! It will be a definite for my next go around! Thanks Bow Hunter! _n
Do you cook the salami too?
Yes, you do. Try it! GREAT sandwich! Thanks for watching NC! -N
I’d put pickles on the salami one ! We ate fried boloney and eggs as kids for breakfast !
I am jealous! Our breakfast was generic cheerios lol. This sandwich is way better lol. Thanks for watching and taking the time to share yourt hougths Michael! -N
All wrong. Bologna sandwiches are NOT made with slices of bologna you buy pre-cut. They are cut from a at least a two-foot roll of bologna at least 1/4 inch thick. I prefer at least a 1/2 inch thick piece of bologna. You all need to go to southeastern Arkansas and catch up on how to make a proper bologna sandwich. It has to be fried, either on the griddle, frying pan, or deep fat fried. I prefer mine fried on a hot griddle, slightly charred. The results you get with those prissy sliced pieces are NOT what I would call a bologna sandwich. You can go to any deli department, and they can cut a couple of pounds thick sliced for you. Plus, you will have a choice of garlic bologna, beef bologna, Dutch style Pennsylvania bologna. I just came from my deli dept at the grocery store. I think they have at least a half dozen types of bolognas.
I've had fried baloney before with mayo and I liked it but when I heard Tom T Hall sing about hot baloney eggs and gravy on "A Week In A Country Jail" I wanted to try that but never did but after watching this I might give it a go.
Give it a shot,,, I wasn't exaggerating in the video when I said I was surprised at how tasty they were! Thanks for watching BE! -N
That's a lot of salami for a bologna sandwich, I'd have to go with The Catcher's Mitt, but without the bacon. (And, for the record, I LOVE bacon) I do a similar sandwich at home with mortadella... You should give that a try!
As always great to hear from you 2 wheels! I was thinking the same thing, they call it a bologna sandwich but it has alot of salami on it,,, in the end it worked for me though. Had a nice bold flavor. Mortadella is great! Love that stuff and will def give it a try! Cheers bud! -N
I have bologna in the fridge for Fried Bologna. I do a version of a Tortilla Crunch wrap as well as bread. I like to toast the bread or bun. Sometime with a smear of mayo or ither times real butter to toast the bread. Sometimes mayo sometimes mustard and other the combination of both. Has to have onions I like red pickled onions but regular onions sliced thin. Pickle Italian peppers or pickled Jalapeno
Cheese good old American, but I use some times pepper jack, cheddar or Swiss. Now the bologna it needs to be almost a ¼ inch but the precut super thick two slices. Now in the morning like Jeff said a fried egg off the hook. I say fry the bologna and experiment with the condiments cheese and breads the sky is the limit of the possibilities. I wouldn't eat them all the time but they can be addictive. Almost for got shake some seasoning on you bologna as it fries garlic, onions, celery salts, and some black pepper to taste. I like to try various blend for a change up. The key is the browning of the bologna not black but brown it brings out the flavor. Maybe some lettuce and sliced tomatoes. But there is nothing wrong with with a plain white bread fried bologna with melted American cheese and mayo with a thin slice of onion. I think it is an overlooked unrated luncheon meat that has great potential in the hand of a creative cook. It a very simple but complex luncheon meat in the right hand. Don't be afraid to try mortadella or a good German bologna not just the American made version of bologna. And what does taste better than bacon on anything
I also like to do a fried Cotto Salami with the whole black pepper corns processed with the meat, and that a whole neither thing. But in short fry it like bologna and experiment to you hearts content. My favorite rye ir pumpernickel bread either sauerkraut or fresh sliced onions a good smear german mustard and some fresh horseradish serve on top of a melted Swiss on the fried Salami. Dang now I hungry and it is close to dinner time. I will have to make it tomorrow maybe one of each.
Hi Rick,,,
you got me thinking with all these suggestions! Love it! I am going to work in a "sandwich night" to the weekly meal plan! quick, tasty and easy! good call! -N
Walenski's has a proprietary bun that's part corn meal.

Try to smoke a whole Bologna chub then eat as it is for a game day appetizers or slice across the chub in ¼ inch slices and Make a fried bologna sandwiches that will knock you socks off. I believe most people don't understand the goodness of Bolonga because they only think of plan Oscar Mayer bologna on white bread. It is truly an under rated luncheon meat that don't get the recognition it deserves. Check these videos out where people go out of the norm and cook by smoking the whole chub of bologna. Each video present Bologna in a whole new way. Great for parties and the left overs make great fired bologna sandwiches. Consider these in you cooks I know they are not griddle ideas but I do believe it worth the try if nothing more than make some fried bologna sandwiches with them similar to the Catcher's Mitt and the Wilensky’s..
I saw a video done with the small clubs and some where also on the fatties they wove a Bacon into a mat, then wrapped the mat around the chub and smoked it. For a couple hour for the small and loger on the bigger ones however I would think a light wrap with the pink butcher paper would keep the bacon from over cooking and I would use a thick bacon for the mat. I can't find the recipe to send you.
I do a version of it on my electric smoker for about 2 hrs on the small chubs and use a mustard as a mositer barrier to keep it from drying out. Keep the temperature about 225°F until the internal reaches about 170-180°F. Smoke with pecan, apple, or cherry wood or a combination. The larger chub or Fatties take a additional time and a lot of bacon to make the mat. This won't be cheap to do with the cost of two package of thick bacon and a whole large Fatty, so I tend to do the smaller chubs. But however you will enjoy every bite. And like I say use it the next day to make a great fried bologna sandwich.

if the salami outnumbers the bologna, it's a salami sandwich. You need a chub of bologna, cut thick and fried up with a butt-ton of mustard on it. That's how it rolls where I live!

The fried and crispy bologna is fantastic all by itself. No need for bacon or salami. And no need for any condiments.
Wolinsky's meat is stacked and browned on both side then toasted bun's the a penini.

If only we could! Saw that online, looks delicious! I have never had the opportunity to have one of those handmade cherry cokes. I would love to try it! I may take a trip to Montreal down the road, when i do, def going to Wilenskys!! Thanks for watching Chuck! -N
you guys need to smoke like a 2 lb chub of bologna, then make a sandwich. where is Chris tonite missing his smiling face!
Hi Charley, He was on a trip. Several folks suggested smoking the chub. Once I get my zgrills pellet smoker back up on the deck I plan to do it. Seems odd to re-smoke an already smoked meat product but so many have said it that we have to give it a try. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment! Cheers bud! -N
