Exactly, we should stop enticing people who feel like college is not for them. Some people are just made for other things rather than to work a job their entire life.
Uhm, how are those young people going to make money? College or not, you need to work in life.
@@cassandramollura4233 Yes, I meant 9-5.
I graduated a year early from high school and thought college was great and got a 3.92 my first semester and then it slowly started dropping. I just finished my sophomore year with a total GPA of 2.9. The thing is, I studied more this semester than any semester and finished with a 2.3. College is sometimes just too hard and too ridiculous and not worth it. If you're risking your mental health and money on something that you may not ever use, then don't do it. I know my mom won't be happy with me when I drop out, but sometimes that's the better option.
…I think it just depends on the person and certain circumstances in life, for some, it’s worth it, for others a different route is okay
I am below average student I am 15
And all millionaires and billionaires dropped out of college.
So school, college, degree is not going to make me a billionaire.
I don't need good grades in order to become successful?
Someone older please tell.🥺
@vikramjeetsinghbrar5719 you're grades don't define you or give an accurate representation of your intelligence. School is stressful and I know that when I'm under pressure, I do worse. If you want to go to college, as long as you get the degree, no one cares about your grades. If you don't go to college, there'd jobs out there that don't require degrees that you can be successful in. I know someone that got their degree in business and they ended up making like $30,000 a year barely surviving and ended up a cop making $60,000.
@@vikramjeetsinghbrar5719Those millionaires are just the .01% the rest of the dropouts are probably either working in trades or learning on the job or just being bumbs
@@vikramjeetsinghbrar5719I would suggest u to put your head down focus on school, hire a tutor, most importantly don’t be shy whether it’s asking questions or asking ur teacher for help on the side
College was the worst experience of my life
Yes
I'm in college and I'm literally studying right now for my ridiculously hard anatomy exam with a ridiculous thought grader of a professor. I'm thinking of dropping this class cause my mental health is not great and I don't think I can do it. But my mom doesn't want me to because there's not refund at this point
Edit: last exam left, probably gonna pass with a C but I don't care. As long as I pass. 😎
At this point a 4 year high priced education is mostly a waste of time and money.
Education doesn't have to be high-priced. Lack of education will continue to push us down in the world. We are falling behind the world in so many ways. You know other than military spending, population percentage incarcerated, and number of gun ownership.
It depends on your end goal. It’s very hard to get into med school without one.
You clearly didn't understand what she said.
That exactly . I got into the final year of college , only 1 semester left to get a degree . But at this time i got an offer job i wanna pursue ( software engineer ) then i just quit college because i don't need it ( electrical engineering ) . Many people call me nuts , maybe . Anyways , i'm happy !
That’s freaking awesome!!! Great story. A lot of people would look at all the time you put in and say “well you might as well finish it you’ve spent all this time and money”
That’s not the right way to do it! Don’t look at the sunk costs.
Great to hear your story! Thanks for sharing!
What if you lose that job and now the next job you are interested in is asking for a degree? Just do part time and finish the final semester so you have that in your hands.
@@xdxxdxdxdxdxdxdxdxdxdxdxdx8578 Good question bro , but maybe you should know that this job doesn't require a college degree. This job requires knowledge more than a degree , actually during the time i was in college , i spend most of my free time to self taught how to programming. Maybe some jobs need a degree like doctor , lawyer but in my case it's doesn't . Many people did it and happy with that . I don't think i will lose this job because the will to learn everything i desire. Btw i don't think Electrical Engineering help me in this field :) .
All I saw was you’re happy, end of story.

My mom forced me to be in college and I hate it. I'm introverted around people and I got no friends, and I dislike these people on campus who are extroverted and gain energy from social events, activities, and Its hard to put yourself out there when people are gonna dislike you. I'm majoring in business administration and I need people to communicate in that field. Its hard being alone and being somewhere you don't want to be. Im trying my best to get through the year, but I also should be mindful of myself as well. I like working out, doing math, working at a job, but this life can be as hard as well. Hopefully I will succeed in the long run, and I won't have to deal with this anymore, but to be once more happy again. 💪✊
I dropped out of college because I realized that I don't do a job that I won't get paid a lot as well a job that I won't end up liking (teacher). Now, I am planning on becoming a graphic designer and programmer plus you don't need college for both of them. I should have made that decision five years ago because back then, I was so naive.
Well, at least you realized it and did something about it. How is the graphic design and programming coming along? Why did you choose those skills?
@Degree Free so far, I am taking some online courses with programming, it's coming along well plus I am considering enrolling in a bootcamp as well as enrolling in a graphic design class. I feel much better, no stress and I am not feeling hopeless and depressed.
@Degree Free I chose graphic design because I love art and sometimes on my free time, I like making photo edits as well as drawing. And programming, I love technology and I wanna know how it works and to make my own programs.
I want to go into graphic design but honestly I dont think is worth to go to school for anymore...if you dont mind me asking how did you enroll in the class? I currently go to a community college but thinking of dropping out to become a tattoo artist or a flight attendant@@hyliannerd4541
Ppl say a lot of stupid stuff because they don't actually see your point of view. They lack empathy
I agree with her, it makes no sense but do whatever makes more sense to you
Pfffft snowflakes like u cant survive this world son
Its actually not sunk cost in this case, people say finish the degree typically to keep options open.
True not everything is forever your job cannot be forever as a explaination if your job or work got low demand and you got kick out what job would you get? That's why a degree is a back up or opportunities. Also my own perspective many people complain why they have low source of income or salaries when the day goes by many people been born in this planet so many food where eaten and many electricity needed to build and this cost of higher inflation rates and supply and demand because of this a degree is a back up plan for having high salary and never expect the companies never take you if you don't have a degree of this qualifications
This is just my perspective I live in the 3rd world country, because in the end of the day robots gonna take the laborers jobs and lower class jobs So don't expect your life will be forever as human progressing also technology progressing we almost live in the matrix that humanity losing its culture, jobs, homes and even richest. The poverty increases and increases 😢
I'm gonna go to trade school instead and learn automotive skill
Great!😃
@@Luka_Tim.basically an alternative if you wanna learn something that needs in a practical way, it’s moreso engagement learning rather than by memorizing tests.
These days we don’t need a degree to succeed. It’s just been something people back in the day did because it was the only option.
Our parents pushed us to do college and that’s fine if they didn’t know better or another way. It was definitely my job to show them. There is another way. If you have understanding parents, you are in luck.
I was never a student type of person. I hated school, but I still attended and attempted college and believe it or not. I dropped out in my first week. 😂 I know I should’ve give it more time, but I know exactly what I want and what I like, and that was definitely not it. It just proved to me more that this was not meant for me. And if you think it’s not for you to that is completely fine.
Someone told me once that it’s hard to be creative when you’re miserable. That really stuck with me.
So much money just for a piece of paper that will probably not get you a very high paying job or just be a waste. It’s better to do what you love to the maximum and not follow everyone else can get pressured into something you definitely don’t want to do.
But thankfully, now I am able to freely be creative and not be under any sort of school pressure, or expectations.
Their assumption is that a degree will increase your wages. So it usually makes sense when that assumption is true.
I mean, most of the times it is but it definitely depends on what you're majoring in
I’m taking asynchronous classes at a 2 year community college since 2020, my major is Computer information systems, and I really feel like it’s best for me to quit college. After high school, I chose my major cause I love computers, but I really didn’t have a set career path like my sister does (she’s getting her masters in Speech Pathology), but I have a full time job working 6 days a week, and working and doing school work is really taking a toll on my mental health, and I really don’t want to be a quitter, but I feel that my major isn’t what I was hoping for, and I think it’s time for me to withdraw from school.
There's a lot to consider before dropping out. Is there a different major that makes more sense? Can you change without losing too many credits, or none at all? Will you hit a ceiling for income at your job without one? Is that job what you plan to do forever? Do you know that a large part of society work in fields outside their degree, but that still require having a degree.
Somehow related to my life. I have spent nearly 2 years memorizing things to clear exams and assignment, report. More than money I regret of the time I have wasted listening and reading back dated books. I need 2 years more to complete the degree but I have some plans and to turn them into reality I need time and effort but university was an extreme barrier to achieve my targets. And just few days ago I have decided not to continue and now I can work with speed
Omg yes! I was just explaining this to my family. Like it’s ridiculous to keep going if I recognize now that I don’t want to do it. But they just keep saying well you’re almost done might as well it’s only 6 months. Like yeah 6 months of doing something I don’t want to do and then it lead to a career I’m not happy at or just more debt for no reason.
same here. im miserable. im also a senior and my mom basically said I’d be a failure to not finish so now im like …. Ugh
Is there a video like this that’s more so focused on your mental health and feeling like nothing fulfills you
Currently going through that exactly
I will pray for you. I’m sorry to hear you feel unfulfilled. I felt unfulfilled in the past at times. Stay strong!
full video where?
I mean I would certainly not take my child down that road that everyone takes to achieve something in life. Here’s the thing, you can find what you wanna do in life when your young, once you find that it will snowball into something you will like to do because of your passion for it. It’s all about finding what you wanna do. College is a scam except for medical and some engineering fields. But for like office job, barbers, lawyer shouldn’t really require a degree
Agree that college isn’t necessary for most jobs. When you start experimenting with different jobs when you’re young, you can try more things in a less financially risky way. You don’t have to take on debt to just go to work and start getting experience. And if you try things while you’re young, you’ll figure it out with enough time and dedication.
@@DegreeFree it’s sad how our society is for kids nowadays, they’re chances of finding their true selves is swallowed by the grueling hours of homework and exams. Like honestly our future is just fucked
If you want to focus on the security aspects in the IT field, you would typically need a degree in order to be hired.
Imagine thinking we should all be the Kim Kardashians of lawyering... 🙄
You want a lawyer without a law degree? Somebody who doesn't have the study of law? Who focused the study on a certain part of the law so they know all about it? That sounds crazy. Do you want a counselor who has never taken psych courses or learned motivational interviewing?
I wish I saw this video years ago 😓😢😢
Well, you saw it now! Did you end up going to college? Did you finish? What are you doing for work now? And what do you want to be doing?
Going 100% in a new direction without fallbacks is risky. That's why you finish your degree. Chances are if you fail at your newly chosen career you won't have the money to finish the degree.
Paying for a degree is risky and expensive in both money and time. A degree is not a safety net.
Lots of people don’t have the money to finish their degree before they go to college.
@@DegreeFree I am not from america so I am a bit confused. Isn't college where you get your degree (Bachelor, Master, Phd)?
Yup. That’s the place.
@@DegreeFree You wrote: "Lots of people don’t have the money to finish their degree before they go to college."...oh I get it now.
I read it as "Lots of people don’t have the money, to finish their degree before they go to college."
Where does the money come from then? Do you get a loan reduction or can you alter the payment plan in a meaningful way?
You take out loans. Student loans are the only loans in the US that you can get unsecured at 17-18 years old for 10s of thousands of dollars.
You’re then liable for those loans for the rest of your life. Not even claiming bankruptcy will get rid of them.
Just because you can take out loans to pay for college doesn’t mean you can afford it. Which makes it incredibly risky. And that’s just the money. That doesn’t take into account the opportunity cost of your time.
You know trade school is better don’t know why people demonize it. Its better than university where you get a useless degree and end up working as a barista in a lot of debt. College is over rated.
I hate been make an assumption about other people unnecessarily
I almost had a 4.0 GPA during HS, I was always within the top 5 students no matter the class, and the moment I entered college I was humbled💀 now I’m in danger of dropping below a 3.0 and honestly idk what to do anymore, some classes are easy and straightforward, but the ones you actually need to keep advancing are ridiculously complex, like math and science
I agree we are also living at the age of IT revolution why waste time and money on something you can simply learn through the internet or by chatting with AI. School is all about grade and luck then it is about learning!
Right. What about those at state schools? You know, the ones that will cost like 5-15 grand more. Then, when you hit a dead end and want to do more, you have to go back and do it. Here's something to note, with some exceptions, having a degree is better than having no degree. Because often people work in jobs with degrees that have nothing to do with the job. But without the degree, they wouldn't have the job. You continue to look at things through this one lense. With really bad assumptions.
Money is no problem for me because I got a free scholarship from the gov. But its Fear the fear of being a disappointment
I know for a fact I don't need a degree for my dream job but damn I don't wanna disappoint anybody
It depends on how you think of college. If you're in it to just make money and a living.... its probably one of the least rewarding things in life, but if you are looking at it as a way to learn a niche that you can take advantage of in the future...Its a decent strategy. Get a job/work for someone and see how the system works. It'll help you understand the niche and how to make it better when opening your business. Obviously you could learn this on the job, but thats less likey to happen depending on your connections.
Depends on the degree. Pooling every degree into one and treating them as the same is... like thinking farming can be done anywhere, and it'd be the same.

I feel like college is not for everybody because there are people that didn't go to college because they want to focus on work and helping their parents out financially yes you need a college degree in order for you to get a high paying job that's in your career field. I have friends that i went to school with and they didn't go to college after high school they wanted to help their parents out and started working which is good. But remember everybody's house hold is different just like every parents house hold is different.
What if you live in the third world country that don't have enough job and having a problem of most jobs needed a degree? 🤔
I have to disagree. No matter what you learn, it's an add on to your skill set. You will work for a business for the rest of your life. It will require accounting, logistincs, managment, finciancing, etc. It;s not a sunk cost, it is an investment in your skillset. The more you build your skillset, the more valuble you are and the more you can negotiate. ALSO, college teaches you how to MAKE finanancial opprotunities for your self. too many people focus on how college affects their job and not their life. Too short term thinking. Don't take this advice.
I agree on you point because living in a 3rd world country is not a joke finding a job is hard especially countries don't have enough job, and many job needed a degree to get hired. In my point of view not all countries like united states have job opportunities that don't need a degree.
@@hermitthelegend1188 that’s why so many American teachers go to those countries to teach English. It’s gives future generations an ability to communicate. This way when they leave their country, they are able to communicate with people from other countries with a common language.
A friend of mine taught English in the Philippines and South Korea. I wanted to do it too, but the tensions between North Korea and the US were pretty high at the time (2016-17ish). I made a personal decision not to go
I have also personally tutored student from countries like Myanmar that live in Poverty. A lot of students from these communities give back so they can help make it a batter place.
This argument only makes sense when it’s based on the fallacy that college teaches you useful skills.
If you think hustling is any easier then go ahead n drop out😂😂
It's funny that all the people who champion dropping out will have their kids in private schools
The thing is, nowadays having a degree doesn't mean sh*t to you, but when you have it means you are certified in whatever you are doing.. when you introduce yourself in a podcast or a public hearing, or if you are writing a book about what you are doing, it is important that you give you credentials. You year of experience doesn't give you any title .

You can get a BA in the USA for 5 grand.
Most people who talk about how "a degree" isn't worth the money are talking about a degree from a big name school, where it costs more.
Most people that graduate college take 5 1/2 years. That’s a lot of time when they could’ve been in the workforce working and gaining experience in their chosen field.
