You said: "you need to eat, people." We need to eat people? LOL 🤣 I thought that was funny, I had a good giggle, thanks! 😂 Yeah, proper fuel can be a challenge for me sometimes, it's all about healthy food choices, thanks for the video! 👍
My swims usually happen in the morning so I start with cold lemon water followed by celery juice. I take a smoothie made with either orange juice or pomegranate juice base and frozen berry mix and bananas. I sip a little before getting in the water and I sip a bit more between sets if I feel hungry but normally I don't. I finish the drink once practice is done. I have regular food after that. All good.
You get that "heavy" feeling when you exercise with a full stomach because digestion is hard! It takes a lot of energy to break down the food before you can use the energy. So when you put all of your energy into exercising, all that food just sits in your stomach. It'll sit there until you vomit or stop exercising.
When I swim either I'm hungry as hell or sleepy as hell or both lol but I don't eat much to get over the hunger sensation so I don't overeat after I swim
I grew up swimming (1980's) and was so very hungry after the pool & ended up in a weight battle to this day. Late May I changed to a very low carb (40 total grams , high protein (120gr), moderate fat and I function so much better. Different methods for different bodies, turns out carbs of all sort generate a vicious hunger drive in me. Only took until the age of 51 to figure myself out. Also: only returned to the water 2 months ago after a 10yr break, what a quality of life improvment!!! Pulling for everyone to hold out through the latest round of pool closures. Thanks for all the helpful inspiring content here & on FB.
It's so difficult not to eat. I have been swimming for 1/2 months from tuesday to saturday 1 hour a day and feel so hungry all the time. I eat a lot now and i'm skinny, but feel the need to eat every 3 hours or so.
Banana is my fave pre swim food but generally I swim first thing in the morning in a fasted state. I then continue to fast after my swim to stay on my fasting routine. I personally have tried eating before and fasting before my swim and have tracked my progress and don't see or feel and difference. Post swim my go to is something protein/whole food based with a decent macro split. Refrigerator oats, smoothie, etc.
I have swimmed for 11 years now and I constantly feel hunger even if im not swimming. I eat 3800-4100 calories a day and still dont gain much weight. Im 173cm 62-63kg 12%Bodyfat. Im currently 16. I get this strange hunger feeling that makes wanna INHALE food, idk how to describe it
It's completely normal for your age I think. When I was in puberty I ate everything in the house bar the shelves and I didn't even swim much then. I can only imagine how it would be with a good swimming exercise routine.
I am doing intermittent fasting low carb. I am not a pro, just training in the pool every day 1hr, pretty intensive, 2-3 times a week 1hr gym, 4-5 times a week stretch/yoga routine in the AM. I eat something like eggs or nuts about an hr before I go to the pool. The pool for me is daily 1-2pm, I drink a plenty while in the pool. When I get back home, I prepare food (I'm vegetarian, so anything from gigantic salad to steamed vegetables, curd, eggs, a block of cheese, always with vegetables and greens) and I eat around 4:30/5pm and if I don't finish the plate, I'll finish up later, like 7 or 8pm and that's it until next day c.a. 11am. My personal guilty pleasure is curry with a lemon rice side dish as well as chocolate. Luckily, cooking curry from scratch is quite a project, and for chocolate guilty pleasure I found one that is with stevia so almost no sugar in it, low carb, and calorie count, and I found a local variety of glazed curd snacks that are extremely filling, relatively low carb, and low calorie. I'm slowly getting rid of stagnant lbs.
I am also an OMAD/KETO person. Just got back in the pool after 14 years. I only get about 30 minutes of pool time 5x per week, so I’m only really able to get about 1750m in that time frame right now. Slow for now but I’m hoping to get a little faster. Any other IF/KETO swimmers?
@@str8shooter-talk116 encouraging to hear! Congrats! I was on a low carb/keto plus intermittent fasting also when I ramped up the workouts with what I call "nightmare mode" which was twice a day workout in the pool 5-6 days a week, plus gym (there were winter swimming races coming up but got canceled due to COVID). The OMAD and low carb/ keto worked really well, I was surprised. I actually had energy for some projects after the PM swim, which was insane. The standard is that swimmers eat everything that moves and that does not, 10 times a day. Apparently, OMAD and low carb work as well if not better!
I love a banana, string cheese, and glass of green juice before my morning swim. After I get home and shower off, I'll have an egg and toast and coffee. I do have high metabolism, so I have to make sure I don't go into deficit and get unhealthily underweight.
i eat a lot of rice and beans for consistent sustained energy. the fiber in the beans keeps the rice from spiking the blood sugar and causes it to be a more sustained energy provider. I've been enjoying go Macro bars and when in season i enjoy watermelon (sugar and hydration)
I have trained swimming ten years ago, for two years. I was even competing a bit. Today was my fourth training, managed to do 4x500m freestyle within 50 minutes. I am kinda impressed how much stamina I got, because for the last ten years I only went to gym, doing no cardio at all. I got wasted from food half and hour ago and now I am watching this😂
In laymen terms. Your body burns a sht ton of calories when swimming. Calculate how much and consume about 50 grams of carbs per day and be on a deficit if you want to cut/lean. It's not that hard, especially if you're drinking lots of water too. It suppresses hunger. You're welcome. 😊😊
My body works better with a Less Carb High Protein diet. 1,5 hour Pre-Swim meal, I eat 5 small whole wheat crackers and 50 gram chicken breast/salmon. Post-Swim meal I eat another 5 small whole-wheat crackers and another 50 gram chicken breast/salmon + apple/watermellon. I take ocassional sip of honeyed water in between laps.
thank you for ur amazing work u help me a lot with swimming facts ive been swimming from age 5 and im 14 now and ive learned a lot from u thank u for ur work!!!!
I am always starving after swimming..and my fav foods are ...1st whatever is available...hahaha 😂 .2nd paratha ...3rd biryani 😊..hope you are able to understand these dishes..
Before swimming I try to get a banana, orange 🍊 juice and organic sugar (4 tablespoons) At the pool I continue with sugar water and a little orange 🍊 juice with water. After practice if it was a hard workout I'll have a 2-3 banana smoothie with almond milk and, you guessed it, sugar. I sip my drink at the pool which keeps me from the crash he keeps talking about. All these sports products are sugar, save yourself some $ and get some organic sugar. I do not feel hungry after this routine.
I would skip all the refined sugar if I were you. I also have no idea what you mean by 'organic' sugar. What does this mean? That the beets weren't treated with chemicals? It won't change the composition of the actual sugar.
Hi Matthew, the only similarity between our patented ingredient SuperStarch and regular old cornstarch, is the starting ingredient of corn. The corn goes through a patented cooking process that changes the structure of the corn and elongates the molecule to make it a longer lasting, complex carbohydrate. You can read more about it here: ucan.co/superstarch/

Watermelon is a great snack!

Swimming makes me sleepy as hell 😴🥴
Yesterday after swimming I slept for like 5 hours straight 😂

I consume UCAN mixed with Metamucil. Started because Michael Andrew mentioned that it helped him fuel without digestion issues. Works well for me.

Squeezie Yoghurt and a Banana are my go-tos. Or the cinnamon donuts they sell at my pool’s canteen!

Best post workout snack - chocolate milk (steri stumpi) and a banana!
I miss swimming all year around 😭
Well, it´s not like maltodextrin and "super starch" are the only two options. Why not slow carbs (whole wheat bread/pasta etc)?
Granola/ protein bars before the swim and oranges after.
Swim eat swim eat swim eat....
Every single day All the time.... 😭

Quinoa
Lglutamine and fish oil. Is that enough? Plus being in fresh water does that draw salts through ur pours?

egg on toast :) - scrambled or boiled egg. maybe some marmite spread or smoked salmon cut up through the egg. Nyom. :)

@@FaresKsebati Pretty tasty alright! And thanks to your videos, I've improved from 800m in a 45m pool session to 1200 in a few months - thank you
Best reason to swim more than, say, 45 minutes a day: idiocy. Employ periodic fasting, don’t snack, exercise, and live long, happy and well.
Peanut butter and banana 🍌🥜🤤
peanut m&ms 😛
