When this movie came out, I remember taking drives with my Dad on back country roads. On our trips, we would always pass this old abandoned steel mill with rusted structures and whenever I would look out at it, I couldn't help but think about this sequence. What an amazing achievement in art direction.

Still remember watching this show in Universal. When I got home, I would eventually decide to build a floating village in Minecraft out of Iron Blocks. Overall, this show is what got me into the movie, plus changed my ways of playing Creative Mode in Minecraft.

The mid 90s; the last time they tried to create actual big budget movie sets instead of the CG Avatar worlds we see today. Too bad Waterworld lost a lot of money though. This scene was always fascinating because it was one of the few times the film felt soberingly dystopian (instead of the "Mad Max on the ocean" vibe we constantly get throughout most of the movie).

Sometimes i wonder what would have happened if it would have been a financial success... but i guess the same thing that happens with all creative ideas that turn out to be money printers: The creativly dead executives of the studio would demand a second one, which they would ruin with their interference. I guess its better that Waterworld was spared that fate.

Plot was stupid but visually this movie still really holds up

So great. My parents have the dvd(im a young gen Z) and when i saw it i loved it. Sadly its considered a megaflop in terms of budget. 175 mil to make.
What an awesome underrated classic. This movie is just awesome. 99% practical effects and people still say that modern CGI plagged crap is better than this.

Lowkey this movie wasn’t that bad. No CGI at all, realistic special effects. It’s unfortunate that this movie flopped. But this will always be universals most famous movie flop lol. And the live action show is still going at universal too. That’s gotta be their oldest longest running attraction at universal too
