the old man dying is still probably my favorite scene in any movie ever. its such a simple and quick scene, but his reaction is delivered so perfectly
The Depth-Gauge
His last words were “Oh, thank God”
When I first saw this scene I thought I was going to have an aneurism. I was laughing so hard that I started gurgling and choking. Funniest scene in any movie ever
Plus think about it, he was probably put there as a child, living in total darkness, only being dropped cans of SMEAT and talking to the Decon every now and then.
A few seconds of burning seems like bargain in my opinion.
Am i the only one who felt bad for all the people who just wanted to live and survive but instead unexpectedly died
1:29 It just goes to show you the kind of hell that old man was living. A giant fire wall racing towards him and all he says is "Oh thank god."
Yep. One of the many perfect executions of the storytelling.
Kevin Costner's character has the superhuman ability to find the perfect length of rope for the task at hand. Three times he needed a length of rope and each time it was a perfectly judged length.
hes a waterman
The man made drinking water from piss. He’s smarter than he looks
Like Aquaman
His character is literally defined as superhuman.
Only the last one needed to be the perfect lenght and only the last one was
"A single tear rolls down my cheek" 😆
Hopper made this movie a comedy 😂
The poor man in the bilge... "Oh thank God.. " 😂😂😂
Aint no bilge, it’s where the oil is kept.
thats not the bilge...
2024 I figured he was a slave what a relief for him😅
I find it hard to believe that the critics treats this epic movie so harsh. This movie is like Mad Max but set in the ocean. One of Kevin Costner's best performance!
This movie actually ageed better than expected considering how bland movies have gotten. It's not like movies of today are poorly made, they've just gotten kinda similar to eachother you know?
Thanks to Kevin, it went over budget so many times, it set a new record, so, hardly his best film.
@@hakont.4960 Especially the Disney Marvel and Star Wars films. Most of them are bland, safe, carefully managed studio productions. You rarely get the sense the filmmakers are out on the edge taking any risks at all. Waterworld was an insane risk.
@@sphinxrising1129 Best film success-wise? No.
Best film performance-wise, also no.
I still love it for the world it portrayed, and the slight cheese factor.
@@jedijones err
I love how the jet skis at 7:52 blow up before even touching each other lmao
"He'll come for me, he will. He's strong and fast like the big wind, he can see a hundred miles and hear a hundred miles under water, he could be right behind you and you won't even know it til you're dead! He'll come for me. "
*Yeah, well, I hope he does.*
"Remember you said that. "
"Death cannot find him, he has no name."
There's a whole generation of under 25s now adore this film because its 90% practical stunts and full scale model effects, compared to the cgi garbage we get now. It got savaged over its budget and is far better than it gets credit for. It was the tie in media that killed this film, and definitely definitely would work so well now days in the eco centric climate of our modern world.
I am a 24 years old from India and I unequivocally concur with you.
٠
That old man must've hated his life, he was looking forward to it ending.
Applies to a LOT of people in the real world too.
One of my favorite childhood movies. I never understood why critics hate it. Kevin Costner was amazing in this.
One of my favorite movies of all time. Rejected by critics is just a bonus in my book.
Rejections by critics is a sign of a great movie.
When the poor person that was in the tank with all that oil.. he said oh thank God his torment is over
That's my favorite part of the whole movie
Yep, I think that mindset applies to a lot of people in the real world.
I just watched this movie for the first time today and I freaking love it. And I couldn't stop laughing when that poor bastardx said "thank god" lol
But isn't it flammable
I watched it on the theater back in 1995. Huge LOL on that part
This movie and plot is brilliant. I've always loved this movie and I don't understand why it was lambasted by the 'critics'...
Its... actually one of my fav moies
Because it's crap, that's why. I liked the idea of a water world but that rope was more like a bungee and how did they all get so high in the sky so quickly? Rubbish.
How did horses find dry land bit people couldn't?
I don't either
Eh Critics don’t speak for Us
Dennis Hopper has always been an outstanding character regardless of the script. Case in point, Easy Rider and Space Truckers.😎
God wasn’t space truckers a treat!
Let’s not forget speed and blue velvet
I watched this movie so many times back in the day.
Of course, I was working at Scout camp at the time, and the only four movies we had (on VHS, before DVD was a thing. Yes, I'm old) were:
Waterworld
Starship Troopers
The Blues Brothers
Red Dawn, the good one from the '80s.
Mariner probably would torch the ship anyway. Because Deacon torched his.
Best quote of the whole movie…..
Enola: “was this your big vision?”
Ain’t that the truth
A film ahead of its time.
if the oceans become hot enough, this movie could become real, as water extens when it warms
@@daanvos194 actually, the melting of the polar ice caps would lead to the earth being covered in ocean
I disagree. If it was ahead of it's time, it would be CGI garbage. It's right in its time.
Dennis Hooper and Kevin Costner are magnificent on this movie.
When I saw “Exxon Valdez” I laughed so hard because I know that ship & it’s oil spill. “Oh saint Joe we’re close” HA!
Also the town of Valdez, AK Which ironically was affected by that oil spill.
Compaired to todays movies this one is a masterpiece 😅
Marvel's got nothing on this.
This was my personal favorite action sequence, and it's looks fantastic in 4K.
“Was this your big vision?” 😄
😂
Your
"oh thanks God" favorite quote from the movie haha
Mad max on water, what's not to love.

This movie was so weird, it made it really good.

Everyone: "I want the remake of this movie or a sequel, that's all"
Universal: "Now What on this screwed up earth makes you think your gonna get that."
In 2012 sci-fi was planning to make a tv show of Waterworld but the project was turned down
Hey, guess what? Looks like we're getting our sequel after all! Collider just revealed that a sequel streaming series is in the works that takes place twenty years after the movie and will apparently feature some of the same characters!
All the fans: we got cash…
@@Leprechaunproduction collier isn't always the most reliable
7:46 what was the bad guys' plan if Costner had NOT snatched the kid out of the water? They were still heading toward a three way crash, killing themselves and the kid.
And I feel the need to write out the ending of this film:
Three villains on jet-skis race toward a helpless child floating in the water.
The hero bungee-jumps off a hot air balloon toward the child.
The hero grabs the child and springs away, as the three villains collide and burst into a massive explosion.
Someone WROTE THAT in a script!
It looks a lot more like Bruckheimer than Kubrick, that's for sure. 😅
6:47 The Exxon Valdez gag got a big laugh in our theatre. Made up for me being the only person to laugh at the "Saint Joe" joke.

One of my favorite films, and one of the most highly underrated ones of all time.
Perfect film. Same as "Terminator"
Strange way of having a conversation, the Deacon is using the PA system and the Mariner is talking softly yet they're about 100 metres apart.
Screw the haters. I like this movie!
This was a great movie even though it was underrated by the critics.
Critics are driven by box office receipts , it us the ticket buyers and later who watch it on Bluray and stream.
It may be underrated by critics but if u wanna see the movie u go to pay a rent.. That's the hype of This movie

This is not a good movie, but it is a ton of fun. Also that's Tina Majorino from Napoleon Dynamite.
They destroyed his boat and then he came and destroyed theirs

I still marvel at the near-believability of the action sequences of this film. It does indeed have a Mad Max flavor, with perhaps a bit more humor.
And more bullets
Waterworld: A Live Sea War Spectacular brought me here when I was little.
KEVIN COSTNER IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great movie. I don't care what anyone says.
Right with ya 👊🏽
To this day, it still makes me laugh that they were moving that tanker by making people row it. lol
remember CNN was all enthused by a french company that had a made a kite to tow freighters
They tried to economise the fuel they still have.
Wow, all those graduates from the storm troopers school of marksmanship.
Very important to measure your rope properly before usage! Every inch is vital!
Howdy Universal it's me, Sneed, just wanted to say I love Kevin Costner's Waterworld, and ya'll need to step up and get us some action coming up soon, ya here me partners? I sure would love to spend time in the living room with my family, and chuck, watching a faithful continuation of the master (Kevin Costner) work. Thank you, and I hope you have a nice week.
Looked like those jet skis exploded before impact.
I don't know why anybody could hate it. It was definitely fun.
A lot of people are dumb. In that group, a lot of them call themselves critics.
All these years, her name is Alone backwards.😢
I actually never realized that.
I always thought she was named after the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the atomic bomb. but this actually makes more sense.

I was really entertained by Kevin's actions in this film
I live for scenes like this, where the hero does something so crazy that the villain realizes he NEVER knew what he was dealing with.
How to save a friend: Blow the ship up she's on; crash the plane she's on. Easy!
My child hood movie and I still enjoy watching it..
2:34 that was a funny ass scream.
If paper is so rare?
How do they have so many cigarettes ???????????
And who's growing the tobacco to produce these cigarettes?
It's seaweed wrapped in kelp.
What a legendary movie!
Critics tore it down because "most expensive film ever is actually really good" isn't a story. "Most expensive film ever is a turkey"...that's a story.
Their problem if they can't appreciate good movies.
I came here after all these years to see why I thought it was a ridiculous movie. Not disappointed. The final bungee jumping scene it is Looney Toones material.
Still entertaining.
The three bozos on the jet skis were the future equivalent of Moe, Larry, and Curly
They should totally remake this !
Oh hey the Universal Studios Show has it's own movie
The movie has a USH show.
Love this movie

The older I get, the more I identify with that old man.

Well don't just stand there.....KILL SOMETHING!
My favorite line in the movie.
Goes to show how insane those guys have become in the movie world. Either the sun or lack of meaningful existence or smoking too much or a combination.

I always wondered how these people could be so freaking dirty and being surrounded by water!
One of the many things why this film was a failure. It was made in the wrong time, and directed by the wrong guy. It looks way too silly. If they were going for the Mad Max theme, they failed miserably.
love it💗
OMG its Deb from Napolean Dynamite! 2:04
If the film had one unrealistic scene, it was the flare setting heavy oil on fire like its gas.
universal studios, you have deleted scenes from the back to the future 3, this film has more than one deleted scene, it has pictures of those scenes, it goes universal to show the scenes.
Un clásico 🔥🔥
Pronto esto pasará xs
I love this movie. Its too fun. I also love the triple catamaran(i think thats what costners main boat was)
Yeah, that's accurate, but it's also so much more lol. It's like a 1000 utility ship. That's the most hilarious cool part.

That runway takeoff is like the one in Fast and Furious, how long is it damn ?! 😅
Well, the Exxon Valdez deck was more than 300 meters long, so let's say he had 250 to take off and he pretty much used the full lenght going by where he crashed.
