I've had 2 of these, a 2003 and 2007. My 2003 one had 297K miles on it and had zero issues. Stay on top of the maintenance and you should be solid for years. Timing belt, water pump, PCV and trans flush and you will be set for years.
I have a 2004 xc 70. It has 96k on it. I changed the timing belt, not the water pump yet. Just had to have shifter replaced. Getting hard to find parts. Had to get shifter off eBay.

I think you may be able to reset some warning messages with the reset button on the left stalk. I'm not sure about the bulb warning, I think that might be supposed to turn off automatically when the bulb is fixed. The position light doesn't sound like the brake light, could it be like the turn signals on the side? Not sure
Hi guys, Thanks for the review. I am looking at a 2004 petrol/gasoline model, done 160,000 miles, hoping to use it as a daily driver. If it is as advetised to be well looked after and well maintained, what issues do you think I might encounter in the near future regarding mechanical reliability?
I would make sure that the timing belt and water pump has been replaced at some point and make sure the transmission is working well as mine was replaced at 200,000 miles. I’d also pay attention to see if any vibrations are coming through the steering wheel and if there are any than bushings will likely need to be replaced. Cheers

Yeah I’m not very familiar with that part of the country as I’m on the West coast but I would say look for one in the 04-07 range for less than 4K as that seems to be still a solid deal. And also be prepared for small electrical issues with these cars.

Honestly speaking, I like the 1999 better because of the square body versus the 2002 that has a bit of a rounded body. Thoughts please!
In this situation I would say it really comes down to the condition of each car as the cars specs and interiors are very similar as the 02 models have 197hp vs the 190hp for the 99 models which is a minimal difference. The biggest difference comes with the 02 model having 8.2 inches of ground clearance and the 99 model only have 6.5 however this really only matters if you plan on doing some off-roading.
