  • This is my official LONG term review of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. In my opinion, the S22 Ultra is one of, if not the BEST android flagship you could buy, the S22 Ultra Camera is amazing, the S22 Ultra battery life is GREAT, and the reliability/ and stability of the S22 Ultra 5 months in is perfect. S22 ultra is my first Samsung and the main thing to caught my attention was just how bright the display can get outdoors since I mostly be outside taking videos of my son and family when traveling the camera is amazing especially 100x of the moon.It always surprised my friends that are heavy into apple products. Been on Android for like 10 years now since I was a teen but S22 ultra is my first Samsung phone ever. I cannot believe how far Samsung has come. For me the most amazing thing is how much you can customise this device just by using an app called Good Lock. The camera is good too! The only complain I have is battery life and thermals, the phone gets hot quickly, charges slowly when hot (even when using 45w charger) and drains quickly in hot temps.

    • @jonvaliagas

    Moved to the S22 Ultra from my trusty Note 8. It ticks pretty much all the boxes for me. There are some very minor issues from time to time but nothing that makes me regret buying the phone. I've limited my battery to 85% charge since day 1 and I've never felt like I'm going to run out of juice. Overall features and freedom this phone (and a lot of androids in general) give users is one reason why I will not switch back to Apple in the foreseeable future at least. Funny enough the biggest complaints I've had about this phone are from friends and family because of the dreaded green bubble. At this point, I might just never change for this very reason.

    • @donovang6911
      @donovang6911 2 года назад +2

      I'm switching from the note 8 too! I hope the display holds up - that's one of the reasons I'm finally upgrading. My note has two pink bars and beginning to get a red tinge to the whole display. Probably from dropping the phone from time to time. Crazy buying a phone as expensive as this laptop! I use my phone as a continuous glucose monitor and hearing aid control, so it is essentially a part of me.

    I made the jump from the iPhone to the S22 Ultra, because iOS was starting to feel dated, and newer features (like pre sorting apps into folders) I did not love. Google Assistant runs circles around Siri. The size of the phone is perfect and I type best on it. I love that notifications can light up a band around the screen. The fingerprint reader is superb. I really can't say enough wonderful things about the phone. The battery actually improved over time for me, now I end the work day at 5pm with a 50% battery after using it all day, so to me that's amazing! Only speaking for myself - having used the Note 9, Note 10, and Note 20 Ultra - the S22 Ultra's camera setup is my very favorite, possibly a tie with the Note 9.

      Well they're not specific to this device I guess, because my main issues would be with those unsupported apps that still force 60hz rather than 120hz (noticed that the review section of Google Maps slows down to 60hz for some odd reason?)
      And Twitter feed isn't smooth at all. The animations seem to jump and lag sometimes without any reason.
      Also many apps still do not have direct access to the camera computational software of android devices, hence you're almost always better off making a video or take a photo in the stock camera app and then upload it to whatever social media you're trying to post it to.
      I honestly think that those are the only things that bother me with my S22 Ultra 🤔

    As a mostly iPhone user, I recently went back to Android. I am using a Pixel 5a and it's been great but honestly, if I could afford it I would've probably went with the S22 Ultra. It seems to be a great phone and most tech reviews say it's the best phone on the market today. My biggest issue with the S22 Ultra is it's way too expensive, as great as it seems to be, I'll never pay $1,000 or way more for a phone. And the S22 Ultra is $1400 which is an automatic no for me.

    • @jonvaliagas

      I agree with the price, although there are times where the price drops significantly due to Samsung promotions + you get add in items like either the buds, watch 4, or cases for free, at that point the value of it is almost unbearable. I've upgraded from an s10+ to s22u and the jump is absurd, this phone can emulate wii games at 60fps some of the times which is impressive and the battery life is pretty good from my personal experience, I do have a samsung 45w plug which literally charges the s22u in 30 minutes from 30% to 90% (the model i have is the phantom black 512gb storage with 12gb ram and the EXYNOS processor since i'm from the UK)
    the only downside is no MicroSD but thats not particularly an issue but it is a feature i miss from the s10 and other samsung phones i had before like s3 and s7

    • @jonvaliagas
      @jonvaliagas  2 года назад

      I think the reason phones are not using Micro SD anymore is because of the bandwith limitations, it is good for having cold-storage, but in terms of playing games off of them and what not it doesn't help in the slightest. I think with the SoC's getting so much more powerful, and the memory bandwith increasing year over year, the switch away from Micro SD is not a big deal. It does suck though that you have to buy the amount of storage you need up front though and not have the ability to drop in any more.

    • @raxzaman2565
      @raxzaman2565 2 года назад

      @ValisMind I am aware of the storage bandwidth, these days phones do have ssd like speeds so it's no surprise, sort of like how the ps5 can only accept pcie 4.0 ssd speeds for it to work for next gen games

      @@jonvaliagas Micro SD is yesterday. I just don't understand why so many users mourn this vulnerable technology. Make sure you have enough memory when you buy it, then there's no problem. For external data backup I use a SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, which can be easily connected via the C-Port. It's no bigger than a credit card and much faster than any Micro SD. Above all, it is more durable and has more memory. To do this, I secure in the cloud, including a business solution.
      I think you should say goodbye to Micro SD, hardly any manufacturer will install it in the high end area. It just takes up space and is a source of error.

    • @Standgedicht
      @Standgedicht Год назад

      @@jonvaliagas Not only speed should be an issue - Micro SD is slower than the internal memory. The place also plays a role. The S22/23U is a technical masterpiece: slim housing with a huge display, all Wacom technology installed, including SPen. So if one doesn't use the in app media platforms camera ,
      But takes pics and videos using the phones camera app ,
      And uploads footage ,
      Pictures ( Slides ) , videos
      Etc
      Would that then mean that the S22 Ultra can measure up
      Or is iPhone in a whole different league altogether for running a media channel
      ?

    I use Bixby routines to change the adaptive refresh rate to 60hz when the battery hits 50% and to switch it on when the charge goes above 60% Works like a charm....

    • @Standgedicht
      @Standgedicht Год назад

      I couldn't do 60Hz anymore today. If the battery is empty, I just charge it up.
      For more than 24 hours I can get along quite easily without restricting myself. If it's not enough, I'll just reload it from time to time.
      But Bixby Routines is really good. I created a profile for the night that puts the processor into sleep mode, turns off all sounds and switches the face of my Watch 5 to digital. I can read it better at night when I'm awake from time to time.
      I also turn WiFi on and off automatically when I leave the house or come home.

    I have been using Galaxy since S4. Yes, the battery is less hours than iPhone in general, yes the phone sometimes have a glitch when using some apps or app may crash. You know why cuz this phone does 50 more things than a bland iPhone does. Just an in-built screen finger scanner, always on lock screen, 120hz refresh, 8k video, S-pen is enough to take toll on the battery. I would rather have a phone full of features and customization with 10hours of battery than a phone that still uses 7 years old tech and but have 15 hours battery a day.

      @jonvaliagas  2 года назад

      It'd be Gigabytes, not Megabytes. - And I think 128 is plenty, the only concern is with the 128Gb version of the phone, Samsung ships it with 8Gb of RAM instead of 12Gb on the 256Gb and up variant. So if you're going to keep it for a very long time, I would suggest going with 256Gb, you'll have more storage, and better performance down the line.

    I’m using iPhones for like past 5-6 years but I’ve always loved Samsung and that’s the reason why I switched to S21 Ultra last year but tbh my experience with that device was kinda bad, that device had beautiful design & screen, awesome camera, nice speakers and everything else except performance ( maybe because of exynos chip ) and optimisations, even battery performance wasn’t that good and all these things forced me to switch back to iPhone. But as I said I’ve always loved Samsung and I still love them for their innovations, so I’m planning to get S23 Ultra next year.

      The camera is AMAZING. Depending on where you are I'd look at companies like Xaomi if you just want raw camera performance, the 12S is amazing because it has a one inch sensor and allows for amazing shots.
      BUT the S22 Ultra is simply the most well rounded best point and shoot camera on a smart phone (in my opinion) when it comes to versatility.

    Which version do you have? 128GB with 8GB Ram or the 256GB / 512GB / 1TB 12GB Ram? I am an iphone13 pro max user and considering in changing but not sure if i should go with the 8GB of Ram or 12 GB of ram?

    • @jonvaliagas
      @jonvaliagas  2 года назад

      256Gb/ 12Gb of ram. - The 12Gb is important, especially long-term. Memory management on Androids isn't the best, so having more helps a lot!

    • @Standgedicht
      @Standgedicht Год назад

      @@jonvaliagas Not really, unless you intend to use the phone for the next five to six years. For the next two to three years, eight gigabytes will still be enough for 99% of the users out there.
      Especially if you don't play complex games. For everyday things like social networks, whatsapp, podcast, youtube, etc., 8 GB is completely sufficient.
      I myself also have 12 GB, but actually only because of the 256 GB memory.

    I've always had Samsung phones while my friends had iPhones. My S phones were S4, S5 Active, S6, S8 Active, S21 Ultra and now S22 Ultra.
    Multitasking and the camera has always blown away iPhones up until the i12 or i13 phones. Every pic my friends posted were always blurry and looked like a 5 year old had the phone.
    My best phone was the S5 Active and the S21 Ultra.
    Would I ever get an iPhone? Nah, I know what it lacks when compared to an S phone.

    Quick charge does make the battery warmer than usual.
    If you want a cooler phone while charging, just use a lower wattage charger (obviously slower).

    how's the video calling with s22 ultra ? i had to bring mine back due to poor fps during video calls(15 fps consistently even during great lighting). same behavior accross all apps btw. Ive gotten 3 replacements over this issue since i do alot of video calls. I have an iphone for now only because of the good video call quality. my note 20 ultra video calls were fine and 60 fps like normal. im not sure whats going on with the s22 ultra but i hope they figured something out with an update because its super troll .
