This film shows what placed the Kingston Trio above all the others. Every harmony is spot on, their vocal ranges are practiced, and look at how hard they hit each inflection, from start to finish. It's no wonder everyone in the nation loved them.
+PRR5406 --If you check out the KT wiki, you'll read how, when they took the leap and hired a manager to break out of the local scene and go for the newly-rising 33 RPM LP national market, the first thing the new mgr did was initiate full regular 8 hour workdays, whenever they were home. That superior work showing in this video --that's what all that hard work did!
Like John Coltrane and Brian Wilson, the Kingston Trio consistently operated on a level of genius that continuously challenged the listener to greater heights. Jaw dropping perfection. Nice intro by Perry Como, too......
The Kingston Trio's performance of "Darlin' Corey" is remarkable. The pace is spot on, Dave Guard's frails away while Bob Shane's D-28 adds great depth and Nick Reynold's tenor adds delicious dimension to the performance. "El Matador" highlights the guitar and vocal work of all three original members, particularly that of ever-youthful Bob Shane. Just great stuff.
I have been listening and trying to copy that Banjo rif for decades. Nice to be able to see it actually performed. I never saw the Trio live until about 1973 or so so I missed the original formats.
I love this, Perry Como such quality , are these available on DVD if not can you get these and let myself know. It is a sad day in America that we had it so good in those old days when morals value was the top, today trash its such a shame. Jim

+sunibaybuh Listen to "The Escape of Old John Webb" sometime, with headphones --catch the harmonies and banjo --old song, new discovery for yrs truly!
I keep watching this over and over again, such a good natural arrangement. Sooooo underrated.
Incredible harmony and so original. They rate up there amongst the best ever.
The best from the best of their era.
What a wonderfully "together" sound.
Priceless, and an integral part of my childhood.
Wow , I've watched a lot of K Trio stuff but never came across this one till now
This is from the Perry Como Show on Wednesday, February 10th, 1960.
Fantastic musical performance !
The Kingston Trio, with Dave Guard or John Stewart, was never equaled by any of the dozens of groups who tried to capitalize on their success.
