In a Dutch talkshow max said he wasn't intended to push him, he went to the weight thing and Ocon apparently said "I was faster then you" with a smile on his face. That's when max decided to give him a little push :p

@@coastliner7009 Ocon shouldn't have been fighting with him at that point. Verstappen was the race leader, Ocon was lapped. Max had every right to close the door on him. Ocon has to take the full blame for that. If he was second, that's a different story, but he was LAPPED

Ocon's a quiet guy. Those are ones you have to watch. Thing is if he was let through Max still would have won the race.
Verstapen can't
It would be no point to let him through because Max would still have to be let through later... which is why unlapping is the dumbest thing a driver can do. If you unlap yourself in say turn 5, by turn 6 or 7 you still have to let the race leader through... unlapping just brings risk. Not only did Ocon cost Max the win, both cars had damage as well. I wouldn't expect anything less from Ocon, which is why they won't make him Lewis's teammate because if they do then it will be another Nico/Lewis deal which Mercedes didn't really like to begin with.

What the heck was he battling with the leader of the race for anyways? I don't care if you are 1-2 laps down trying to get your lap back and earn what a couple of points.....its to late in the season for that. Get out of the WAY for the leader. I am sure if tables were turned Ocon would not have liked it. He screwed up. Max's reaction in my opinion was justified. the guy was going to 2 wins in a row, more points on the line then Ocon.
You don't Interfere with race leaders if you are lapped. His pathetic push to un-lap himself wouldn't have made a different to his race, no points
@@alphabeta9425 it's the kind of smart logic because you reduce the risk in battle with someone that even if you pass them there is no reward. Ocon being the driver he is of course he would try to unlap himself... the risk would also increase if 1 and 2 are battling it out and then the lapped drivers would try to unlap themselves would be a recipe for disaster. Once your lapped, the driver who lapped you no longer consider you an opponent and aren't focused keeping you behind them. Max lapped Ocon and no longer considered him a threat which is normal so he didn't expect Ocon to take a foolish risk in unlapping himself for absolutely nothing.

This reminds me very well of the Schumacher/Coulthard incident at Belgium 1998. For those who don't know that, it was raining hard that race and Coulthard was told that Schumacher was behind him and he needed to let him through. But the rain was so hard, and Schumacher drove straight into the rear wheel of Coulthard's car and lost her front right tyre in the process. Once they were back in the pit, Schumacher made an angered beeline to Coulthard, seemingly for a fight. Of course, they were all restrained from doing anything. They eventually met in person and discussed things out.
For what happened here, I saw the replays. There definitely was not enough room for Ocon to pass, he was definitely in the wrong place at the wrong time and earned him that 10-second stop/go penalty, but the chain reaction that led to Verstappen's Red Bull spin off for a moment, it effectively gave Lewis Hamilton the win and along with it, Mercedes' fifth Constructor's Championship. True that Red Bull was out of the running anyway, but Verstappen had it going well up until that point. Second place is not a bad spot but considering that incident, I definitely understand why Verstappen was hot-tempered after that.
I think Ocon being the kind of driver he is, was completely foolish in trying to unlap himself especially on a tight corner. The race leader usually isn't worried about the lapped cars and I can see why Max probably didn't pay attention that Ocon was that close on that turn because he wouldn't be considering Ocon as an opponent at the time. I'm sure the reason they told Ocon that he can unlap himself is so that Max would have to drive cautiously in keeping Ocon behind which in theory would allow Lewis to catch up. Still I don't understand why try to unlap yourself in the first place; even though you can it's just in a way disrespectful to the ones competing for the win or podium.
Good job ,Max never let yourself down!! Michael Schumacher taught you this well!!
What happened at the track and the push by Max reminded me of Max's father-in-law Nelson Piquet at the German GP in 82.
Executive order 44 was initiated in lap 44.
Ocon should have just admitted his wrongdoing and Hamilton should have been a bit more humble and acknowledge he would never have won the race if it wasn't for this incident. He was outdriven and out-'strategied'. Max should have kept his cool and just ignored the French boy.
