  • In today's video I discuss how I got into watches, when the passion started and how I caught the "watch bug". I share a brief version of my watch biography from my very first Casio as a child to recent grail Rolex watches I finally bought as an adult and a lot of fun ones in between. I also talk about my greatest regrets as a watch enthusiast and the most important thing I have learnt during this journey that seems to be very far from over.

Hi. I learned of your channel through my oldest son Kevin about six months ago. I have since become somewhat obsessed with it. I feel that we are, on many levels, on the same wavelength. Our backgrounds are about as diametrically opposed as one can imagine, yet we seem to have arrived at most of the same fundamental beliefs regarding what it means to be a fully functioning gentleman.

I have had in my 44 years of life a lots of watches, from 20 dollars to Rolex, and sometimes life teaches you that been humble (that includes what you wear) it's the best thing to do.

I love your outlook on horology. I'm very happy with what I call the "TGV Starter Kit". Squale Satinato 1521, Seiko Sarb033, SKX009J & 007J, Orient Bam3. What I didn't account for is how addicting the "bargain" market can be especially with straps! It's a fun hobby.

Not only have you inspired me to begin my watch collection as a college student, but I kid you not, I watch your videos and feel inspired to go and study my class materials harder, or finish unfinished homeworks, because your refinement and attitude toward literature and studies and culture is great. I love my Classical Mythology class because of you, and my Oris for the same reason. Thanks TGV.

I caught the watch bug at 19 with my first seiko kinetic. Now I'm 38, my collection includes rolex, IWC, omega and Panerai having flipped many others too.... but I still have my seiko kinetic, and I still wear it often.

I have only been able to trust myself with a valuable watch these past few years, between 85 and 95 I chewed up swatches like a boozer knocks back pints, while the Seiko I had from 95 to 2001 took more punishment than any one object could bare. Since it died I wore shallow fashion watches which I could afford to lose, swap, smash and have stolen, and its only since I inherited my late father's fifties Seamaster that I've been able to trust myself with artful objects of value, and invest in the heavy hitters. Keep these warm hearted and generous videos coming, I find them extremely relaxing!

I am very glad for this video, TGV. I have recently fallen on hard times, but I still want a time piece (or two) that are budget, but does the work well. I no longer feel bad for wanting a Casio Duro as an alternative to the Rolex Grail watch that has evaded me. Thank you, thank you, and bless you for putting these videos out. You have taught me so much.

Very cool. Your max bill video inspired me to pick up the Vintage Junghans that you commented on in the UGWC!

Your channel is great because you don't exclusively deal with high end and uber expensive time pieces. I'm not in that realm because of family reasons but I can surely appreciate the Oris Aquis and Hamilton Khaki King that I own, mainly because of your channel. Thanks for providing information to us regular Joe's who appreciate good time pieces!
