Does it matter what the dial position is at when removing the dial and if so where should it be at? Seems every time I do this I have to recalibrate afterwards. Thanks
While I’ve never had any of the problems others mention in the comments, I do worry that the screw heads and threads might degrade with repeated disassembly and reassembly. Is that a reasonable worry or not?
Can we get some clarity here, please. If this video was released three years ago then it may not apply to the Ode Gen 2 which was released one year ago. Please clarify.
If you hear a loud clicking noise after cleaning, you may need to recalibrate the burrs. I would have appreciated a pointer to the calibration video here instead of wasting an hour to figure it out. Hoping this will help someone in the future :)
Removing the burr was 1000x harder than that (slight over exaggeration.) I had to get a flat head and pry it out. When I tried to use the quick release, it just slowly returned to the normal position without releasing. Maybe it needs some type of lubricant?
That happened to me too. I had to disassemble again and make sure to carefully reassemble it to make it function properly again. The dial piece that clicks when calibrating the 0 point (not the black round dial that goes on the outside) has a part that slants down to the right that needs to be aligned properly. Once I got that down right, everything started working right again.
Just seeing this now, I had the same issue and I just received a second Ode in the mail. I was never able to get the burr out. If you contact customer service with this issue they should send you a replacement and ask you to send the original back to them. fellowproducts.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/requests/new My new Ode seems fine. The static causing my grounds to get stuck is still a small issue, but I can't deny how nice the grind is.
is that stiff bristle brush something that's supposed to come in the box? (mine didn't come with one) it seems weird to not be included if it's something everyone is supposed to use to clean it every 3 months.
Thought this would be a quick morning task, but took hours to disassemble, clean, reassemble, find that it wasn't grinding, disassemble again, reassemble again, find that it wasn't calibrated anymore, recalibrate. And in the end I'm not sure what difference it made.
Thanks for this heads up. Between reviews like this and needing a screwdriver to disassemble and time to clean, I feel I can find better, less costly and easier grinder for my French Press
@@sethstephenson7892 pretty sure i did not. I followed the instructions. Plus, it’s not like there is a choice of screws as far as i can tell. Fellow sent me a new grinder which was great.
@@janetkimber6518 there is two sets of screws. The larger ones are easy to see in this video, but much harder to see in person. Only way you can see the screw and washer is by removing the smaller ones. Like I said, I made the same mistake. Glad to hear you’re back to grinding though! Cheers!
It would be helpful to know what size of Phillips screwdriver is needed. It is impresive to see how well this outstanding piece of industrial design accommodates maintenance by the user. So many mistakes were not made!
Don't be fooled like I was. I took mine apart to clean it and now I can't get it back together properly. There is a very important step missing in the video above... how does that happen??? There is a while washer and screw that they don't show.
I was going to say the same thing. I use a dust remover tool for cameras that you squeeze to puff air and remove particles. It works really well and doesn't involve any chemicals that could affect the taste of your coffee grounds.
This video should INCLUDE a video section on how to calibrate the burrs as well. For me cleaning the burrs ended up super easy all parts easy to remove and replace, except perhaps the front plate at first. HOWEVER, currently my grinder has no differential in coarseness of grind each grind is basically the same except for dialing back all the way to #1 setting. ... at first I basically thought I ruined my 350 dollar grinder .. but looks like I will have to "Calibrate" to, hopefully, get it back to proper operation .... Sheesh
I thought the arrows were pointing to the 4 screws that had to be removed for disassembly. I've disassembled and cleaned it but now I realize I should have turned the dial to 11 before taking it apart!! I don't know what to do now :(
It was hard as fuck to get the burr out as everyone described, but my friend put 2 forks and kinda pulling out and worked. She said same way to put burr out as EK43. Hope this is help guys 🙏
As others have mentioned please do a more thorough video on this. No need for fancy cinematography or production. Something more practical (and talking is okay) What size screwdriver? How often should this be done? What's this brush do you recommend? Is the pellet process instead of the first part, or in addition to? There is mixed information on what to set the dial to prior to opening. Please clarify. Also, for over a decade now, can air is sold with a bittering agent that would completely destroy the coffee for some time.
When you remove the main dial, there is a large washer attached in the middle by a screw. Why are you not showing this in the video. I have been without my grinder for over a month because I can't get this reassembled properly. It seems really odd that a whole step has been left out of this video. Sadly there is no phone support at Fellow. I shopped for this very carefully before I spent the almost $500 CAD. I really thought I made the right choice but I now feel really frustrated. I do love this grinder, but I can't seem to get any help.
Update! My first Fellow rep was not helpful. When I submitted a second ticket I got someone who promptly solved my issue and sent a new grinder. I heard Fellow had great service which was one reason I bought this product, I just happened on an unhelpful agent the first time around. Thank you Fellow! I really do love this grinder!!!
I’m not sure why everyone is stressing about cleaning the ode. I had the same issue, burr got stuck, read the comments and gave up on life. Then I decide to thread some string between each side where the burrs nearly touch the edges, pulled it out gently and bosh, what do you know? the burrs slide out easily. Give it a shot. And no it won’t damage the machine. Hope this helps people not throw the ode out the window.
Jeez. Cumbersome to clean. After watching this, No thank you. At this price it should be easier than all this work, or as my spouse said at this price it should clean itself.

How often should I clean the burrs and how?
never cleaned my ode (gen 1) yet. It's less than a year old but more than 3 months. After reading the comments, I'm now scared to clean it.
but would i ever nEEd to use cleaner tablets on this machine? or would manual cleaning be sufficient?
The other video says you need to keep the grind setting to 1 when you are removing the burrs
Yeah and how do you do one of the most important bits i.e. calibrating it?
Maybe the key lines them both up. 1:42
Thank God for the comments. The two fork method worked to remove the outer burr. I also found the video to recalibrate the burrs and did this too.
can you please link to the calibration?
