    Great vid! My fav character by far. Loved Tywin the Villian Mastermind. Dr Doom mixed with Vito Corleone. Chess strategist, truly dangerous mind. His scene prepping the deer🔥, scenes when Arya served him 🔥🔥, scene when he sent Geoffrey to naptime🔥🔥🔥. Some of my fav in the whole series. Or how about the deleted scene when Tywin is the only fishing and call out Pycells scheme that no one else figured out. Amazing

    • @intpleb4206
      @intpleb4206 Год назад +10

      @@justdizzy3273 I ignore those seasons. Lol. The "writers" aren't the original creator, so had no clue how to write Tyrion accurately. It's never organic when someone tries to write a character not their own. I pretend seasons 7 & 8 don't exist at all, and my own version of events are vastly different than what D&D wrote. For one, Aegon Targaryen (Jon) isn't worthless toss away that was resurrected for nothing, and actually defeats the knight king as it's been foreshadowed since the dawn of their appearance. It's always been his fight.
      Arya wants to avenge her family, so her targets are all personal. She also doesn't run off to other lands, but remains in Winterfell where she's always belonged. Bran helps them decipher fact from fiction, guilty from innocent, where the bad guys are in his worg state, and nothing more than that. There is no weird cripple as the king, the actual victor takes the throne. Tyrion is actually a Targaryen too, whom already respects and gets along with Aegon (Jon), and they rule on their 3 dragons, but justly. Jon and Tyrion are loving and loyal, and that is just the sort of environment Dany needs to thrive.
      A logical, organic flow and sequence of events would have satisfied viewers much more than the garbage they threw at us. Too many writers want to "subvert expectations." Sometimes this works, like when we found out Darth Vader is Luke's father. However, when poorly done , it ruins stories, like when Palpatine "somehow survived" and Rey was his granddaughter to explain her Mary Sue-ness. Just... awful. These stories are better in our imaginations, don't let D&D ruin your love for this story!

      David Bliss when I look from Tywins perspective I can understand his dislike for Tyrion he killed he beloved wife when he was born due to his deformities, his final son ruining the whole Lannister line in one foul swoop due to Jaime being a kings guard at this moment I believe, tyrion had defamed the Lannister name not by choice but based one his birth. Tywins greatest weakness was that despite him acting like he didn't consider the opinions of the sheep he has always this is why tyrions weakness his such a problem to him

      Tyrion succeeds in bringing order to King's Landing, leads the defense of King's Landing against Stannis Baratheon, eliminates the chief agent through which his rule may be undermined by Cersei's interference, and gets rid of the corrupt chief of the Gold Cloaks. He did a bang up job there.
      Tywin has many great features which make him an excellent character and formidable person. His numerous failings as a father and his overly harsh treatment of defeated enemies earned his family more enemies in the long run and left the Lannisters in an incredibly fragile position once he was gone.

    Tywin is not a sociopath, he's a complex pragmatic anti-hero shaped by his father's irresponsibility. Most of the villain in every movie/serie ever did much less cruel things than Tywin, and still there is people saying he's not a villain, he is the man behind the red wedding, the rape of Elia Martell and her kids, he tried to kill his own son multiple time just because he is a dwarf, he tortured thousands of people on Harrenhall, he gave power to one of the most cruel man ever seen on television Ser Gregor Clegane, yes he is a bad guy, even by game of throne standards.

    • @StoriesTeach
      @StoriesTeach 6 лет назад +10

      @ledernierutopiste I have to agree with you, in my eyes he's not a character I admire and I personally refuse to put him on a pedestal. I think a lot of the reason why others write off his misdeeds comes down to the fact he exemplifies traits that our society values. Not that it's a bad thing to value traits like hard work, leadership and knowledge, I just think we should put it in perspective. I know my opinion fundamentally disagrees with many on this thread, but having these types of discussions are always a good thing.

      @@dubbeking I think that's too relativistic. Nearly any person could be labelled as 'a product of their time.' The video even excuses his orders/acceptance of raping and killing the king's wife and little children lol.

    • @Itizhor
      @Itizhor 5 лет назад +4

      @James Chris Don't assume others have 'not seen the video' just because they don't agree with you. I've watched it and I still think he was a 'bad person,' if you will. Not evil, because the bad things he did were the means, not the goal itself (i.e.: he was not 'sadistic,' 'mad,' etcetera). But he was still the paradigm of someone who would maintain the system in his favour: all of his character is about that. He knew no honour, and all the 'he saved many lives' discourse conveniently ignores that he did it because war would have been bad to his own interests and those of his family, and not because high moral standards or worryings. If he had needed war given a certain circumstance, he would have started war without a second thought; the thing being, he knew war should be avoided if possible, but ONLY because of strategy, not ethics. He was clever and charismatic, with no doubt, and you could learn a lot from him. But he would order to kill you ruthlessly if that could help his plans. So yes, I think he matches one of the various today's definitions of 'bad person.'
      And I've not even talked about his 'personal' side (e.g.: Tyrion).

Cus if he is Aerys' son than its all understandable, and than Tyrion killing Tywin means nothing. You make a good argument, although his treatment of Tyrion is still his weak point and his downfall. Even if, as you say, he believes Tyrion isn't his child, the way he treats him by torturing him at every point of his life (remember what he did to the women Tyrion fell in love with) is unjustified. Either he accepts Tyrion as his son and treats him accordingly, or he should've killed him outright or at any point (go hard or go home as you said). However, he goes against his character and does neither of those and refuses to recognize that Tyrion is the one most similar to him in terms of character and judgment out of all his children. Furthermore, he also misjudges his other children, trying to force Jaime to be a leader when he's not (Jaime is and always wanted to be an honorable soldier) and treating Cersei like a prop despite her innate abilities to scheme and desire for power. Like many characters in GoT, it's his weaknesses that do him in at the hands of his mistreated son, Tyrion.

But not only did he spare him but CHOSE to raise him as a Lannister. He could've given him away or left him somewhere. Tywin chose to raise him. He did this for his family not for himself ad tyrion asked. I think the thought of harming your own child coupled with being the last memory of joanna is what lead to Tywin sparing Tyrion. An interesting character, certainly not a good human! Not by our standards, or Planetos!
    Tywin did horrible things for his own pride. He can claim it was for his families name, but it was only for himself. He died on the shitter, just as was fitting for him, with the whole realm laughing at him, at the way he died, forever. Stinking up the Sept of Baelor just like he stunk up the lives of so many.
    He was ashamed of Tyrion for his looks, and for nothing else. Tyrion looked on the outside how Tywin felt he himself looked on the inside. Tyrion is Tywin's son, and was maybe even a judgement on Tywin by the gods! There is no proof that Aerys raped Joanna! Rumors! Garbage!

    • @mtgirl73sg
      @mtgirl73sg 7 лет назад +3

      +Benching
      I have read the books several times, as a matter of fact. The word respect is actually mentioned with Tywin's name only 4 times in the five novels, and only once of those four times does it refer to Tywin himself, and it is this, from Jaime in AFFC, "Jaime suspected that many and more were secretly delighted to see the great man brought low. Even in the west, Lord Tywin had been more respected than beloved, and King's Landing still remembered the Sack". So a deep respect, no, I don't see that in the text. Certainly not by Ned or people of the north, certainly not by the Martell's. As a matter of fact, in seems like Jaime feels that Tywin's reputation was damaged by allowing the Sack of Kings Landing. Actually, Tywin was smart, so it is surprising he let that happen to the city. People remember stuff like that, but Tywin obviously didn't care what people thought of him, which does show his arrogance, which Cersei certainly inherited.
      The cheering incident that you speak of was a tournament hosted by Tywin to celebrate Prince Viserys birth, and it is from Cersei's POV, and I think it could be said that her memories and idea's are to be taken carefully. She was 12 at the time, but just as narcissistic and vain as ever, "They cheered Father twice as loudly as they cheered the king, but only half as loudly as they cheered Prince Rhaegar". This tourney was also held in Lannisport, so right in Tywin's back yard, so to speak, and I am sure people cheered their liege lord. Cheering at a tournament does not equal respect in my mind, but we all are entitled to our own opinions.
      I think that Tywin commanded by fear, but fear is a powerful tool and fear can be respected. I am not saying he wasn't respected at all, because he was, but not widely, and maybe not much out of the Westerlands. TWOIAF states this, "the manner in which he had dealt with the rising of the Reynes and Tarbecks had made him well respected, even feared, throughout the Seven Kingdoms", but I take this book with a grain of salt, as it is obvious propaganda for Houses Baratheon and Lannister, written for young King Tommen but a Maester with questionable intentions. GRRM refers to it as semi-canon. so who really knows what we should take from it.
      No doubt that Tywin is a complicated character, and like the majority of GRRM's characters, he is neither black nor white, but multiple shades of grey. Tywin was smart, and not afraid, seemed to keep the Westerlands in order and was a distinguished battle commander, but he wasn't beloved and his arrogance hurt him at times. And I can't forget that he did awful things to people over the course of his life, all for his pride and arrogance, and that sticks with me more than some people cheering at a tournament.

    People dislike Tywin because he is not nice, because he doesn’t smile at them and doesn’t tell them lies about “the good of the realm”. Make no mistake, that’s what they fall for. They’ll swallow any lie told on the background of “good intentions” and the hollow promise of “social progress”. They will hate anything that reminds them of a stern, realistic eye and run into the arms of anyone promising them a hug.
    This show makes the promotion of maternal care at the cost of patriarchal sense of responsibilities. It supports all forms of feminine tolerance and softening against the costs of necessities. This show turns idealists into heroes and realists into villains. It openly promotes collectivist, egalitarian and inclusive views against the selfish endeavours of Littlefinger or the capitalistic handling of the Lannisters. This show is essentially modern left wing propaganda.

      Or you're just trying to find hidden and politically connotated messages where there is nothing of the like. Here are two counter-examples to your conspiratorial delirium: Jon Snow and Tommen Baratheon. The first one is a realist yet also a hero while the second one is an idealist... He may not be a villain, though, but his extreme weak-mindedness and incompetence couldn't have resulted in anything other than a big political crisis, giving his position. I could go on and on like that for quite some time but there is only so much time I can keep going without bursting of laughter at the view of your paranoid comment.

      I dislike Tywin not as a character but as a person. He only invaded the Riverlands because Catelyn captured his son. But was there any reason to send his "dogs" to slaughter the Riverland smallfolk for 2 whole years? Was it necesarry to pillage Kings Landing and slaughter thousands of smallfolk only to secure his next alliances to the new king? And destorying two entire houses? Even the children who had nothing to do with the uprising? Flooding a castle with every single person in it?
      Dont get me wrong I like Tywin for a lot of things that he has done and most of his decisions are fair from his view but his punishments of smallfolk, goldcloaks, antlermen and nobles goes way and way too far for me to like him.
      He is just a smart dick with no respect for human life.

      Or, maybe they hate Tywin because he's a mass murderer, a rapist and a looter, a man who has no problem slaugthering entire houses with all their women and children, burning entire villages down to the ground, and even condemning his own son to death.
      It's far more simple than your delusional, out-of-reality political theories.

    Tywin always reminded me a bit of Tarkin from Star Wars. Sure there is a similar appearance, but also that tactical genius you had mentioned earlier, their rise to a prominent positions of power.

    Loved your video about Tywin, you made a lot of great points about his character and of course I have to concur with them, he is my favorite character in the series also he commanded so much respect and he earns it through his choices, actions, his way of thinking and how he expresses himself. I thoroughly enjoy his character, his scenes with Arya were also great as you see him feel more comfortable opening up to her, the few times when you see him take less of a commanding role and more of a father/friend type role.

    I rewatch Tywin KAnnister vids the most over the years, I love that guy, even his imperfections are incredibly human an from a fragile perspective that he's encased in hardness, it's hell intriguing, his way of conquering others, the mind games an political moving etc, I'd like to see house Lannister still stand

    o7 wow great vid! I always respected Tywin's cunning, ruthlessness and grit, just from what I've seen in the movie. But now that you explained all the back story (Never read the books) I have a lot more respect for him. He's a realpolitik vs Ned Stark's idealism.

    Great video.
    The part about Tywin knowing that Tyrion is not his son clashes with my belief. I think he simply thought what everyone else had believed: that Tyrion was sent by the gods to punish him, not that Aerys was the boy's actually sire
