    Stainless binds, lube thread and don't over tighten, all sweet

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  3 месяца назад

      Sounds good. I need to redo all the solar bolts too before it's too late!

  • @sparkiekosten5902
    @sparkiekosten5902 3 месяца назад

    Smart idea with the anti binding agent for the stainless bolt into aluminium. Having installed solar for a few years I know how frustrating it is to have stainless bind to the aluminium!
    Also with the silicon in the joint of wiring is a good idea. I personally use some hot glue to cover the joint and when I heat the heat shrink it melts and moulds to the joint. both methods work a treat!
    Enjoy the van life before the local council stuffs it for you!

    I love your setup. You’ve thought of absolutely everything! I’m currently parked right behind you, I just pulled up for the night with my daughter & just looked up & went ‘hang on, I recognise that van’ lol

      😂 that's funny! Still not sure I'm staying here....wait and see if all these clowns stop racing past! Pretty noisy so far. I'll say hello in the morning if I'm still here.

    You could have got a 12v dimmer switch Jason. Great video as usual.

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  4 месяца назад +1

      😂 true! Wanted to use the existing switches though and not add any knobs. This does what I need and only cost $1.80😊

    Great video Jason. You put the fun side, as well as the realities, of the process of setting up a mobile home. Well done. Cheers, Sean.

      Thanks Sean. It's certainly not easy building a van, but if course, worth it to have things exactly as you want them

    I'm a fan of rivnuts (aka Nutsets). Good work on the baskets. I though they would make a lot of noise in bumpy roads. A pet hate - rattles and squeaks. That looked like Heaton Lookout. 😁

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  4 месяца назад +1

      Yeah, they are a bit noisy on rough roads, but mostly fine on sealed roads. Not really any louder than the metal door knobs I have 🙄
      Yes, Heaton lookout. That was a good suggestion! 😉

    hi, slight correction... Can rivnuts be used in applications with thin or weak sheet metal?
    Yes, rivnuts are particularly useful for adding load-bearing threads to thin or weak sheet metal parts. By buckling a rivnut during installation, it creates a durable anchor that is stronger than tapping and less likely to be pulled out easily. new to your channel, enjoying the ride , take care. Frank

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  3 месяца назад

      Thanks for coming along, Frank 😊
      Yes, agree that rivnuts are a good anchor in most materials, but back plating is far stronger on thin material. It really comes down to what people are mounting and the required strength of the joint. Seems that most van builds I see on the internet are done by people employing house building techniques, which is just not right for a metal vehicle 😁

    Hi Jason, Your rivnut set looks good, better than the cheap set i have, mind sharing where you bought that kit?

      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  3 месяца назад +1

      Mine was a cheapy too. The exact link isn't there anymore, but if you search "rivnut tool" on eBay, you will see the blue set pop up in your search.

    I lived in a cave close to the Hunter lookout for 3 months back in 2013 .

    How much does it cost you a week to live via van?

    • @MakingStuffGoingPlaces
      @MakingStuffGoingPlaces  4 месяца назад

      I have a total budget of $300 per week, not including registration and insurance. I manage to save some of that and then use the savings to do work on the van.
