I've always been skeptical with this because I've seen it go very wrong in the salon causing orange roots. I watched this video 124 times and finally convinced myself to try it. It worked BEAUTIFULLY! I am actually a level 4 with 25% gray. I just used 20 vol and P and as soon as I started to see it lift I washed it off. It broke my base beautifully and softend it so nice. My blonde is so bright and it evened out some bands I had in there as well. Thank you for sharing ❤

I did this!! Thank you soooooo much Sylvia!!!! My hair turned out fabulous.
I only have access to Sally's so I used half an ounce of AGE Beautiful (Zotos) High Lift color in HLN -Neutral Bonde, half an ounce of the same brand in HLA - Ash Blonde and two ounces of 20 volume developer. Left it on for 15 minutes as per your instructions and it came out FANTASTIC! I know my hair pulls red so I would say that if anyone else would like to try this I would first go with just HLN because if your ends are super porous they might come out a little to ashy with my combo.
I usually get a bit of brassiness and dullness at about 6 weeks after my last professional color and hi-light. Like you said, it just gave me shine and a *fresher* color. Somehow the roots are blending a little more too even though they didn't lift. I think this will enable me to go longer between professional visits and give me the little lift I need. Many thanks again to you Sylvia!

+RangerMommy I don't know if you will see this, but I wanted to tell you that I followed exactly what you said here and got these products from Sally's. I did my hair yesterday before I set out for my husband's work Christmas party and it worked very well. I've had my hair blonde using a box of Revlon's Age Defy color but it was looking a little tired, dry, and brassy. Now it looks softer, blonder, lighter, healthier. It worked perfectly and I love it. Thanks to you and Sylvia!

OK, I just went ahead and DID IT!! I was hoping for a reply from you about my situation but no reply- it's OK! I was expecting the worst! I have dark blonde hair (level 6-7 naturally) and it's bleach foiled pretty heavily... anyway, the lengths were looking blah like dull, darker/brassy and purple shampoo wasn't helping. It felt like I needed to go through it with more bleach but I saw your tutorial and heard you say NOT to bleach over bleach (I didn't think that'd be a good idea).... so I bought some high lift color from sally's, 20 developer and went for it!! I have had other stylists try and "break the base" to make the regrowth not look so harsh and it never worked for me- it always turned my roots super orangey and nasty so I was always against breaking the base, but like you said, if you use 20 volume only, you won't get the orangey hot roots, just get enough lift to where your roots don't look so dark- but NO ORANGE!! I am so excited, and my dingey looking lengths look brighter now! Oh, man I am so grateful I found your channel- and another thing- why can't all stylists be as knowledgeable as YOU??? It seems like every single stylist I have gone to for color lately has been absolutely CLUELESS and has not been able to give me what I want despite taking photos in.... they just seem so clueless. It's cost me a lot of money and a lot of breakage!!!! Thank you so much!!!

YES girl I'm in the same situation. I've been wanting a more platinum balayage, I have virgin level 5 hair so you would think that would be simple to do, but now 600$ later i have just golden highlights! And I'm so pissed because I've gone to 2 different high end salons In the last 2 years and they apparently cant do what I want! So I'm going to try this. Hopefully successfully so I dont ruin my 600$ shit hair job lol

Selena Walck I did and I talked to my hair stylist and she said no matter what developer you use it will change your hair color because it is a permanent color that dyes the hair. I have a lot of highlights and underneath is dark brown. I used it on my whole head for 20 minutes and my roots changed to from a dark brown to a lighter blonde which is fine because you could hardly tell the change of the highlights so I did like the change. But I also bought naissant blonde pearl to help keep the color light and it helped too.

I just did this with a 30 V Because as that’s all I had and my Chi highlift said use 1:1 ratio (vs 1:2), so that is what I did. It’s still damp but I’m loving results!! I only did a few stripes for test I am going to go back in when it dries and hit my whole head. For reference: I’m naturally level 4 w/heavily bleached highlights level 8 to 9/10 thru mids/ends with level 6 perm. color on my roots to Cover gray (A lot going on!). My mids/ends are now super bright & feel healthy! I also tapped a little bit on my roots & it blends the darker 6 with the highlights much better . (coronavirus quarantine experiments lol)
    Thanks Sylvia!

I used Agebeautiful HLA-Ash blonde with 20 volume in lieu of not finding the Chi Iconic 11A. I had I 4N roots and light reddish brown (brassy) hair with dark to medium (brassy) blonde highlights. It turned out surprisingly well. Mind you I'm correcting my hair after I paid over $300 for balayage retouch. The stylist lifted me to level 9 on ends and level 7 on balayage retouch. My brown hair that wasn't highlighted turn light reddish brown. I was so tempted to dye my hair dark brown and give up on finding a solution to my haircolor nightmare. That was until I found your video and decided to take a chance. OMG! Thank you so damn much!!
I still have some brass on the light brown hair, but nothing like the nightmare I had before. The blonde is golden and buttery, no more brass. My dark roots are still brown with zero orange and no hot roots. Thank you so much ❤.

Girls, do not be afraid! Use this method!
Thank you so much for such great tricks! Thanks to your video, I realized what I need for my orange-yellow-dirty color. Earlier I toned my hair with colors 9.5-4 Igora Royal and 9.22 Farma Vita after bleaching. At first it was not bad, but then it became dirty. Now I write what I did yesterday (I am not a professional!). My base on level 7 and the roots had grown about 1 cm, so I decided to lighten them and to use 12% peroxide on roots. I used Wella Koleston 12.16 (special blonde ash-violet) with 12% on the roots, and then (according to the instructions to the paint) wet the hair and emulsified color over the whole length and left it for 10 minutes. My way is somewhat different from what you advised, but I was inspired by your video. Basic length looks great on the tone lighter, shiny and beautiful natural color at 10 without yellowness. The only negative thing is a little orangey roots. Now I think maybe to use 9% oxidant instead of 12% to my roots the next time, would it remove orange or to buy the Special Blonde with a high content of ash or blue (ask subscribers, can someone faced such problem)?
P.S. Of course 12% is too much for bleached and toned hair, even on wet hair, so I will not risk again =) Thank you again for such great videos! You look gorgeous!

I've experienced the same thing when I dyed my roots(level6) with hi lift pearl blonde (11.8) and used 30 vol (9%) and came out not so bright as the rest of my hair and a bit worm. I advised to up the peroxide and use half 9% and half 12%. They also advised me to use some type of heat (not direct hair drier though). I used heat cap and got the results I wanted. Heat accelerates lightening.

It's NOT a stylist job to over-ride what you want done to your hair! Be strong and find someone else who will listen to you. For every jerk stylist, there are at least 5 out there who are not. I put wen conditioner in the hair color. I put wen on my whole hair before applying hair color on hair. It turned out very conditioning. Wen products are awesome. When I was on chemo I was using wen. It did wonders to my hair. Love the stuff. Even the spray mist is awesome.

Howd it turn out? I'm also thinking about doing this, I recently bleached my hair about 4 times in 2 months and had to cut it from my waist all the way to my shoulders. I actually just today bought two boxes of the L'Oreal natural blond and now I kind of wish that I would have got these colors that she's talking about at Sally Beauty Supply the high lift in 12 and + 12a or 10 and and then toned it afterwards. But, I'm thinking about just dying my hair with the box dye and then toning it afterwards because I have all different toners and also apparently colors that aren't toners from what the lady at Sally's told me, I have T14, T 11, T28, 9NG, 5NW, 6w, and 7nn.. My hairs pretty light but the last time I bleached she suggested using the toners "honey blonde" (can't rememebr the number) and medium intense blonde I think it was called. I think she didnt know what she was talking about because my hair after bleaching it was pretty damaged but not that bad, I used the L'Oreal quick blue I think it's called the one in the bucket from Sally Beauty, with a 30 creme developer and then for the toner I mix those two together and used a 20 developer. However now my roots are like an ashy Sandy grayish blonde if that helps explain it LOL and from about my ears down is a very honey tight blond with almost a tenth of orange in it almost like the picture in this video of the before picture. I want my hair like her after picture but I would like a shadow root. I'm just not sure how to get it or do it myself and I'm pretty impatient and don't really want to wait for my natural hair color to grow out since my natural hair color is like a medium to dark ashy Brown. And since I don't have any friends to help me with this I'm too afraid to try myself to use a darker color and attempt to only dye or tone about 2in of my roots, I would be so scared that I would either go too far down or I would end up getting dark hair dye or toner on the ends of my hair or in the middle if a dripped or if I accidentally touched it to my roots. I'm so frustrated with my hair and want it fixed already but because of the damage I did this last time bleaching and toning it I'm afraid to box dye it and then try to tone it to even it out, and I'm definitely afraid to attempt to bleach it again from my ears down to get rid of this honey looking color and start over with a better toner like t18 and T14 or t18 and t11. I've been doing all of oil treatments as well as the aphogee 2 Step hair masks they have at Sally Beauty. I've been leaving them in overnight and it seems like it's been doing pretty well however I already had to cut my hair from my waist all the way up to the tops of my shoulders and really don't want to have to get it cut any shorter. I'm just not sure at this point what to do to fix my hair to get it to where I want it. I wouldn't even mind not having the shadow root, but I at least want my hair all one shade of blond and I would preferably like it the color of her hair in this video of the after picture since my hair right now from my ears down as more of the before picture and then my roots are very ashy. I'm not sure why the lady at Sally Beauty told me to use the honey blonde toner since I believe that that's what caused it to turn out this orangish color from my ears down since when I poured the toner into the bowl it was pure red it looked like red food coloring, anyway sorry for the long comment I'm just not sure what to do and if anyone could help me out I would greatly appreciate it I do have bleach at home I also have the L'Oreal hi-lift cool Brown which I was going to use to try to do a smudge / Shadow root and then I also have two boxes of the L'Oreal natural blond and then all of the toners that I mentioned which apparently the woman at Sally Beauty told me aren't all toners that some of them are actually color Which I'm not sure what that means. I'm guessing like hair dye? I know this is an old video and I'm super late and nobody will probably even read this entire comment LOL , but hopefully somebody can help me. Thanks guys💕💕🙏💗

I had an ombre and slowly kept bringing it up with highlights and results with gold/orangish tones and now my color is a beautiful ash. I have very thick black hair so once i bleach i have red orange tones, and even after i tone after bleach i am not happy with the results till now! I had a flood in my basement so my well water and softener turned my lightened blonde hair ORANGE after a shower one day. Just like that I was orange and ugly. I finally with vita c got that out safely. So now I get back from Cosmo prof with UTP platinum and grabbed 20 vol developer . After watching several of these I decided to go for it and I did subscribe too finally. I've been dealing with cancer and addiction recovery for the last year and a half. So far so good. I hesitated to try the new Loreal beach babylights hilift dye cause of the ion. After watching this I went with my gut. Since loreal hilift red did my dark virgin hair good, I bought the loreal babylights dye after watching this video. • @lpg8518
      @lpg8518 5 месяцев назад

@@UFTrici LOL!! I used to think the same thing. 1 part means if you use say 1 oz of color, then you use 2 oz of developer. 1 tbsp color, 2 tbsp developer. If you have the Wella toner, you use 1 bottle of the toner, then fill that bottle twice with developer. It's 1.4 oz of toner and 2.8 oz developer. Whatever you use to measure, its 1 of color with 2 of developer. Good luck.

let me tell you now... im a self taught diy at home and I was on to this but I wanted to hear it again from someone who tried it already.
I took lvl 2-3 to a level 7,8,9 on purpose cause I wanted depth and not just one shade flat color because I wanted the option to play around with toners to achieve different blondes 😍
That worked well for the time but now Im going even lighter, I am going to lift more so that I have more 8's, 9's and some 10's!
I use olaplex religiously as well as deep conditioning and no poos (im a naturally curly gal as well 3a-3b, low density, medium porosity) and I use BlondBrillance lathering toner every other week and all is well.
I have zero breakage and Im loving this blonde life lol

Silvia, you have been a hair angel! You're videos are always so informative and help me get the job done. I really want to try this to my hair but I have about an inch of regrowth and my hair is getting a little brassy...will the roots go brassy with using a hilift color or will the 20 vol keep it from lifting too much like a toner? I don't want to bleach again and want to keep the darker roots through fall and winter to give it a break. Would you recommend this or even a Demi in a 10a to help blend and tone?

Thank you!, I just did this! I have bleach highlights and have gray, and had colored my roots with wella 7a. Sadly, it has been getting a bit brassier over time. I was thinking of doing more highlights then found this. I went to Sally’s and bought ion 12a and some of their 2 step protection and sealer. I applied it to my roots first, then went back to put it throughout my whole head. It came out great! Much more cool toned blonde and lifted the roots enough to tide me over til next time :). I may even try to just use this on my roots next time they grow in. Thanks again!

I'm hoping you answer questions: I got cast as a blonde (dark blonde/light brown) and my hair was dyed dark ash brown. I wanted to dye it back to medium anyway so I took the part because I was going to need to lift some color anyway. Here's what I did:
I stripped the color, then bleached my hair with a 1:2 ratio of blue bleach and 30 volume developer.
Then I toned my hair with a 1:2 ratio of 20 volume developer to Wella T-18
Then dyed by hair "dark ash blonde."
It is still very golden, and this character we believe was a natural dark blonde/light brown.
What should I do next to make the color cooler? It is the correct lightness, but too golden to look natural.

Thank you so much for all of your tutorials 💓 them ALL! 2 questions; 1 will this product cover grey roots too?, 2 how many times per year can you do this?

Thank you for this video! Tried it last night and it really brightened up my blonde highlights and helped take some of the red out of my base color (tried to lighten with a box color last time, lots of red tones leftover).

Yay, I am so excited. I did this to my hair and I love love love it. My hair looked like your before picture and I kept feeling like I wasn't completely happy, like something was not perfect (even right after the salon) This was the trick. I went to Sally's and I got New Brilliance high lift in the 12A (there were no 11A's) Mixed with with the 20 volume and left it on for 15 like you say. worked perfect! Thank you thank you thank you! How often should one do this type of thing?

I did too. I thought it was a beautiful natural, even shiny color. The after looks dull and lifeless

Ok.... I have a question ??? I did a hi lift, in between going to the salon, and I absolutely love how everything turned out except..... my roots! They were about 1 1/2 in grown out. I feel they came out very brassy. Everything else was a beautiful color. Why are my roots brassy and how do I avoid it happening again?

I agree it's the matter of preference. Several years ago cool blonde was what most blondes were aiming for (including myself). Now, I think, natural warmer blonde color is in trend. The video is a bit outdated too..

Make sure this colour does not touch your roots (natural hair colour) as this can turn it gold depending on what base level you are x great video iv watched lots , I have my own salon in South Wales U.K. .. Spa wars BBC . X love jayde

Hello, if I want to use Olaplex with this, should I use a 30 vol. color developer or should I choose a lighter shade such as 12A or 13A (Ultra Light Palest Ash Blonde) with the 20 vol. developer? Thanks.

Seriously YOU ARE THE BEST! I am very chemical ignorant because I am NOT a stylist/colorist so this is stuff I NEVER knew.
I have processed hair. It is Naturally a soft black, but now I have "white" hair coming through and since it takes a LONG time and a LOT of $$$ (well worth it to have my hair lady do it! I'm NOT complaining! I love her) but I like to lengthen the time in-between colors (approx2-3 months) by doing my roots at home.
and everytime I have colored my hair I use the items from Sally Beauty:
    ION BRANDS for BOTH:
Color Brilliance Permanent Hair color (creme) in
    HIGH LIFT ASH BLONDE
    and
the SENSITIVE SCALP (purple bottle) of
    30 VOLUME DEVELOPER
I leave on for 25 mins max and it still comes out a bit brassy not super terrible the last few times since I found this High lift ash blonde (better than anything I've every tried from Sally - and unfortunately the ladies working there respond with, "i have never used it so I don't know". Hey at least they're honest. I absolutely DESPISE the ORANGE/Strawberry blonde color it yields.
You mentioned in THIS video that using the 20 Vol. developer will prevent or deter from the brassiness. Do you think that may help?
I know my color/roots are sight unseen and there are so many different versions of soft black with grey/white hair, but my question has been unanswered by so many. Mostly I don't knows and Yah, sure that will work then it turns up brassy.
Anything you can offer would be super helpful and I love learning about this stuff for myself. My hair has always lifted with red or brassy tones.
I used to use 40 vol. and it was STILL brassy (on the advice of a Sally Beauty employee - again not her fault but geez!)
THank you Silvia!! Love your videos!!

What I like about you is that you explain like we are six years old and it's good for those that need it like me. You are not out to be discovered, showing off. Because of that, I have had to stop watching these wanna be stars who have "how to" videos..Thanks for the no pretense and for the help I want to get my mom's long white hair to get rid of the yellowing and she's hard to please but she has all this virgin white hair but it's yellowish and old. Maybe with your watching your video, I can get her to cut it in a cute style.

Is this for naturally blonde hair too or just hair that was dyed blonde? I have completely natural blonde hair that I’d like to lighten up but idk how. Purple shampoo doesn’t really do anything to it

Hey there! I have been looking all over the internet for an answer to what to do with my hair and this seems like the best answer- My hair is naturally dark blonde and is always being highlighted/bleached/foiled at the re-growth but my stylist never does anything with my lengths.... my lengths are looking very dull and brassy, and I'm wondering what needs to be done to the lengths... this looks like the answer! I'm going to ask her next time to do this for me, however, you mentioned doing this to the roots as well? Every time I have done a high-lift color on my roots (for a double process look) my roots turned out too warm and orangey, so I stay away from the roots with high-lift color.....

I have a question I have lightened blonde hair. But my roots are about a level 9 ash maybe an 8 blonde. If I apply the highlift to my roots will it bump me up to a 10? I usually have my roots lightened but if I can get them lighter without using bleach/lightened I would prefer that and it would save me money.
