    I believe Nami's parallel in the new world may actually be Momonosuke.
    Both of them suffered a loss because of the villain of the last arc, neither of them actually talks about it until much later in the story and both ask for Luffy's help

      Momo reflects vivi and nami

    • @revenantronin8377
      @revenantronin8377 2 года назад +11

      That's why Moj said, "Oda made a mini version of the *vs Yonkou saga* " so of course, the much larger Saga holds more than one instance where things reflect. Capone Gang Bege could also be Nami for WC island only where he is forced to work with Big Mom in order to be able to pursue love and he's only truly free IF Big Mom is gone. Even the headliner-Holdem could be a Arlong type character with Tama being the Nami in that plot-thread.
      I think Morj wanted the video to be more concise and straight to the point, and that's why he started from the end game, to make it make sense where Nami parallels Law. Also, Momo never worked for Kaido, whereas Law worked for Kaido indirectly through Joker and Nami worked for Arlong too.

    • @revenantronin8377
      @revenantronin8377 2 года назад +7

      Arlong killed her mom figure who was a marine which he hated, Joker killed his father/brother figure who was a marine too, they both left it up to Luffy to take down the big bad in the end, Arlong was sent crushing down into arlong park, Doffy was sent crushing down destroying his birdcage, they both got arrested and afterwards Luffy got a bounty and was chased by a marine (Smoker later showed up because he tracked Luffy down and Fujitora straight up chased Luffy in Dressrosa).
      Parallels don't need to be the exact same replica, only the story beats and themes matter (that's why Morj held off on the animal kingdom parallel because they were misarranged). Momo brought nothing to the table that mirrors East Blue Nami, not wits, not skills, not knowledge about the world either (all these qualities are only just being explored in the endgame, not when we first met him) and these are among the many similarities between Cat Burgler Nami and Sugeon of Death Law.

    Something I would like to add is that Syrup Village was Usopp's arc where he had to grapple with the consequences of his lies whereas Dressrosa was also his arc and he had to overcome his lies to become who he said he was. Also Syrup Village ended with everybody thinking Usopp was still lying whereas Dressrosa was the arc that gave Usopp his first actual bounty (unmasked).
    Similarly, Baratie featured a Gold armored villain threating to kill Zeff and claiming that his technology was how he would conquer the grand line but being outclassed by Mihawk, whereas Whole Cake Island featured a gold armored villain, threatening to kill Zeff, while claiming his technology would help him conquer the North Blue but being outclassed by Big Mom.

    1. She definitely parallels Law in role (the alliance) and backstory (Navy sailor adopts them and dies for them in front of them by gunshot, with their last words being 'I love you').
    2. She covered Oden's role. Misunderstood hero tries to protect their village through non-violent means (earning money v. dancing). Became a social pariah as a result, but before the final confrontation their home becomes aware of their sacrifice.
    3. Momo for being the scary monster's victim and keeping it a secret for as long as possible. Also, both of them were the non-violent heroes of their respective arcs (encouraging people to not give up on Luffy and asking the samurai/villagers to risk it all).

      Bro, this theory is trash. "Here are some superficial similarities between a few arcs. Therefore the sagas are exactly the same!" Dressrosa and Syrup Village? SUPER different. Whole Cake Island and Baratie? Despite each featuring Sanji, SUPER different. Zou and Gaimon? You gotta be joking.
      Just because each saga starts with an alliance and ends around a big bad doesn't mean they're structurally the same. You could make the same case for Alabasta. Literally. Here, I'll show you;
      Alabasta starts with Whiskey Peak; a light-hearted easy villain arc that results in an alliance to take down a much larger antagonist (just like Punk Hazard). Then moves to Little Garden, where the villain is a master strategist that manipulates our heroes by tricking them into doing the fighting for him (like Dressrosa). Then we go to Drum Island where our antagonist is evil royalty whose powers come from their insatiable appetite (just like whole cake island). Finally we end in Alabasta where we fight the villain we've been building up the entire saga and each SH gets an individual battle while our alliance member self-actualizes to save her kingdom (just like Wano). Oh, did i skip Zou? Well don't forget Reverse Mountain which is a non-battle arc featuring strange creatures. See, perfect symmetry!
      Oda has story-telling tendencies, all story-tellers do. And after 20+ years of writing they're easier to spot, but that doesn't mean they're worthy of a "theory." This video is trash. Worse than that, it's insulting to Oda who made a saga full of distinct arcs. Zou's story structure was unlike anything we've seen in OP. Whole Cake Island was an acid trip fairy tail that turned the whole "damsel in distress" motif on its ear. Dressrosa...was super similar to Alabasta haha.
      The point is, this "theory" is a joke. Though honestly, at this point, Morj is too

    I do wanna bring out that Baratie and Whole Cake Island are also similar in that they were initally "mini" side quests that were part of the original plan (WCI not being part of Law's plan, and Baratie, on a much smaller scale since they had no clear long-term plan, wasn't even something they went to for a purpose, but rather ran into by chance and got dragged into it by accidentally destroying part of the restaurant, forcing Luffy to take an abrupt break from his journey and work for Zeff for a bit to make up for the losses)
    both arcs had the crew split up completely where Zoro and Usopp specifically go to the final destination earlier than the rest along with their non-Straw Hat allies, meanwhile Luffy stays to help Sanji and vows to not leave the island without Sanji on his crew.
    and both arcs had Sanji make a seemingly stupid move of feeding the enemy, the big bad of the arc, and the same big bad immediately waged a full attack with the intent to kill on Luffy, Sanji and Sanji's "family" (figuratively for Baratie and biologically for Germa), and both involved the same villain plan to take control of the ship said family calls home, because they think it holds the key to them conquering the Grand Line.
    Edit: and if you wanna go further, both involved Luffy and Co. taking down an enemy with unbreakable defenses: Pearl, the 3rd strongest fighter of Krieg Pirates, and Cracker, the 4th strongest fighter of Big Mom Pirates, but the 3rd who actually did anything at all lol (cuz Smoothie doesn't exist)

    This might be kind of a stretch but Levely and Loguetown might also count
    -theyre both short arcs that focus more on worldbuilding than action, taking place around Arlong Park/Wano (be it before or after)
    -both are set in a place with significant history (the World Government's capital is Mary Geoise and Loguetown is where the great pirate era began)
    -both give lore on an important king (Roger, King of Pirates, and Imu, King of the World)
    -both involve the revolutionary army (Dragon saving Luffy and the rest of the army preparing for war in the Levely)
    -Luffy gets a major bounty (his first bounty in Loguetown and his 1.5 billion bounty in Levely)
    -both showcase returning villains in more minor roles (Buggy and Alvida in Loguetown and Charlos, Wapol, and Lucci in Levely)

    It's a fun idea but it falls apart when you consider that the Shichibukai weren't planned to be this important. Doflamingo wasn't going to be the antagonist he became when Oda was writing East Blue. Also remember that even after that, Doflamingo was going to be a secondary villain in Wano before Law existed.
    I concede he might have used some ideas that were going to be important in the future, or viceversa, taking ideas from the start to give form to what we've been reading these past years. But it wasn't "foreshadowed" nor planned beat by beat in East Blue.

      This whole theory is trash.
      Just because each saga starts with an alliance and ends around a big bad doesn't mean they're structurally the same. You could make the same case for Alabasta. Literally. Here, I'll show you;
      Alabasta starts with Whiskey Peak; a light-hearted easy villain arc that results in an alliance to take down a much larger antagonist (just like Punk Hazard).

When you think about it after East blue was loguetown: the story of roger is emphasized … where we are introduced to dragon, there was hints that luffy was destined for something in the dialogue after he was saved by lightning, he smiled at his execution, new powers that luffy has no answer to like logia devil fruits are introduced via smoker, reverse mountain is described then they go there and meet laboon, I wonder if elbaf will be like this in a way? will they be chased by new powerful SSG weapons and meet up with dragon and revolutionaries then find the last poneglyph and realize they need to get back over reverse mountain to laboon a crocus in order to get to laughtale? Then will the final war involve pluton Blackbeard and alabasta? Could their be parallels with skypea to get to laughtale? Makes you wonder if some of the paradise section of grandline was inspired by the ending wars. For example alabasta is tied to the world government … so maybe crocodile goals are similar to the world governments story in void century? World government is a crocodile that succeeded in defaming joyboy and taking over the world posing as a good guy? Did hey fail at taking the ancient weapons so they buried the history to stop the world from getting the power to take them out?

      @@Hobblescotch I agree with you bro. I also think it was rushed in certain ways. I agree with everything Morj post, except for the raid failing. Like there was no way that it was going to fail. Luffy always wins in the end. That’s the typical shonen jump layout. I just feel as if Morj wasted too much time making videos about a raid that 100% wasn’t going to fail. I actually had to skip a few of his videos to dodge that bs theory. Other than the raid failing bs, Morj prob makes the best OP content aside from Ohara.

    We could even draw parallels between Shells Town and Fishman Island.
    In both arcs, we have two Straw Hats with already established notoriety in both Zoro and Jinbei.
    Both Straw Hats have been known for their fighting prowess and their sense of duty. Both Straw Hats were even imprisoned for putting their honor before their ego, eventually burying their egos for greater causes.
    Zoro was imprisoned and sentenced to death for killing Helmeppo’s dogs while protecting an innocent. Jinbei was in lockup at Impel Down because he refused to partake in the Marineford War for the sake of Ace, an innocent who was only trying to avenge a crewmate and deliver justice to Blackbeard.
    Both also only joined on the condition that Luffy honors their values and convictions: Zoro with his dream to become the greatest swordsman and Jinbei with his sense of duty and commitment to his crew.
    Eventually, both also had their badass moments of declaring their loyalty to Luffy. Zoro sacrificed himself to protect Luffy from Kuma. Jinbei stood up to Big Mom at the risk of losing years of his life, with Jinbei declaring that Luffy would be the future Pirate King.
    Both arcs also had a supposed “lawful” military-esque villain. Morgan was a corrupt marine officer who ruled with fear. Hody was a former officer who believed that Fishman Island would be behind his anti-human crusade that was based off the unspoken law of hating humans.
    Both arcs showed a people who were freed and allowed to live their lives, with Koby being the more notable example in following his dream of joining the marines. The Fishmen were freed from the discrimination and prejudice against humans.
    Both also set the stage for the saga to come.
    Thoughts?

    A crazy similarity between wci and baratie that I noticed is that both arcs feature a ship that sanjis family lives on and the many parallels between them. Both ships double as something else, with Baratie being a seafaring restaurant and Germa being a seafaring kingdom. Both ships can transform, with Baratie having extendable decks and Germa being made up of completely rearangeable square sections. Both ships are where his family lives, with is birth family on Germa and his adoptive family on Baratie. The ships captains, Zeff and Judge, mirror each other as father figures, one literal and the other adoptive. The Baratie's cooks mirror Sanjis literal brothers, both relationships are competitive to the poi t of anger and violence, but with the cooks it was love disguised by macho posturing, while the relationship with Sanjis birth brothers was truly toxic.

  • @chrislin6570

    Another important parallel between wci and baratie is that both arcs show the strawhat pirates and the viewer the true level of the sea.
    Baratie constantly emphasised the strength of the 7 warlords of the grandline and even showed the reader, a first hand experience of the true level of the grandline with Mihawk showing up and beating zoro. Thr same zoro who was portrayed as unbelievably strong in east blue.
    On the other hand, wci had the first arc where luffy could not defeat the main villain and the entirety of the second half of the arc was shown to be extremely difficult and hard to survive with the katakuri fight and the escape of the strawhats being the prime example. As this is the first time encountering and fighting a yonko, the same way baratie was the first time encountering a warlord
    So they actually parallel each other even more, as it shows and hypes the viewer up for the true level of the sea and the series in general

    The only problem I have with theories like these is they ignore how writers think. If a writer likes a certain trope or character type then they will use it again. Oda loves the idea of someone being metaphorically/mentally trapped and Luffy liberates them. You could then say that every arc was foreshadowed by the Shells Town Arc where Zoro didn’t even attempt to escape because he trusted Captain Morgan would let him free. So did Nami with Arlong, so did Robin trust CP9 would let her friends go, so did Sanji with Big Mom. Its not that Oda plans it, he just lives certain storylines and reuses them

  • @babelette
    @babelette 2 года назад +3

    A very well thought out idea. Sure, oda might have subconsciously recreated similar structure (it happens a lot with us writers) or used it as a template on purpose. But it does fit and this was not a clickbait video. Nami's parallels momo more than Law because Law's main goal was Doffy, kaido was just a stretch goal as he will be in danger after he defeated Doffy and luffy doesn't have any need to fight doffy otherwise if it was not connected to Kaido. Unlike Luffy, Law doesn't necessity have desire to become Pirate King. So, I feel momo fits better. Anyway, good job.

    And speaking of Orochi, I guess you can draw a parallel with him and the Marine captain(?) that worked with the monster antagonists of the arc giving false legitamacy for their presence.

  • @captcrow1783
    @captcrow1783 2 года назад +10

    Fractalized story telling structure; genius Oda, genius. The parallel setup goes into the next saga plotline that as stated has the crew island hopping so we return to hunting Laugh-tale. The Elbaf saga seems likely to mirror the Amazon Lily saga with the major climax following resulting in the rescuing of Robin from Enis Lobby. This could be Luffy assaulting the Grand Line after going to Elbaf (touching up his final fighting techniques) and heading out to rescue Sabo, his dad(also being captured trying to rescue Sabo himself when Sabo escaped unbeknownst to the revolutionary army), or perhaps both. The final villain being likely IM parallels the known main protagonists of cp-9 and the conflict between the two forces of Marines and Straw Hats in both cases. I know a lot of filler is being skipped here with what I'm sure is plenty of important and relevant details but those are the next major points of possible parallel narrative given the proposed fractal telling of the story structure where the first part is a blueprint for the rest.

  • @forsta6654
    @forsta6654 2 года назад +2

    In that case you can see this pattern also in the Grand Line Arcs (and everywhere you want so see it... )
    Orange Town = Alabasta = Punk Hazard (all about a map/blueprint to treasure/ antique weapon/ lineage factor )
    Syrup Village = Sky Island = Dressrosa (all about a guy who wants to be mighty and betrayed his folks)
    Baratie = Water Seven = WholeCake (all about a crew member how leaves the crew and comes back later)
    Arlong Park = Thriller Bark = Wano (all about Monsters)
    oh...and Long Ring Long Land (all about strange animals)
    😜
    I think this is just Odas writing-pattern.

    I mean, Oda is on another level. When he was starting Sabaody, he feared the arc wouldn't be interesting enough, so he just made up the other 9 Supernovas right before their debut chapter, and now he's still carrying their storylines forward.

  • @dmfuerte
    @dmfuerte 2 года назад +3

    You have it backwards. It's doesn't work this way in reality. The publisher asks the mangaka to conceptualize a story with a designated chapter count to work towards. If it catches on, they will ask for more. Oda created an arc and saga structure that spirals. Once one loop closes, he builds another one that reflects the pattern of the original with more world building, characters, and stakes. It's a clever pattern that enables him to keep themes consistent and focus on a limited number of things to expand.
    Contrast this with Kishimoto's Naruto. He stood by his premise of a ninja academy for a while but the more he drifted from the original concept, the harder it was for him to reinvent the wheel.
    Oda stuck by a model he could scale up. The issue now that the publisher accepts the story must end, is how much Oda chooses to pay off. Some ideas were never really designed to go anywhere and could easily be cut out without changing the story like the Supernovas. The main payoffs will be Blackbeard, Gorosei, Imu, Laughtale and the One Piece. He could have skipped to these beats multiple times in the story.
