JCW is proud to release a new short film called Speak Up, telling the stories of seven young adults from the Orthodox Jewish community who suffered the horrors of child sexual abuse and have journeyed from being victims to survivors.
PLEASE SHARE THIS VIDEO which was produced in order to raise awareness of abuse and to send a message of solidarity to survivors, that they are not alone.
If you are a survivor, please know that you have nothing to be ashamed of! You can come forward and speak up, and when you do, JCW will be there to support you!

    ABOUT JEWISH COMMUNITY WATCH
Jewish Community Watch was founded in 2011 with the stated goal of breaking the silence and shame that surrounds CSA in the Orthodox Jewish community. JCW prevents further abuse by notifying the public of the threat of the abusers in their vicinity, educates the public about what to look out for, and helps survivors of abuse heal by reminding them that they are not alone and by supporting them through their battles.
JCW recently re-launched JewishCommunityWatch.org which represents the most extensive Jewish website combating child sexual abuse. It hosts extensive content, including a vast education center, the Wall of Shame with 93 profiles of alleged abusers, information for survivors to get help, relevant laws with regards to each state, myths and facts on CSA and much more.

Wow. What an inspiring and powerful video. JCW: you are truly doing God's work, and you will be forever blessed and guided. Child Sexual Abuse THRIVES on secrecy, isolation, intimidation of victims and their families, deception, and guilt/shame. The beginning of this long end of the night for the Jewish Community, is your organization and the powerful work that you do. The survivors that came forward are truly brave and courageous, and I am touched to my core. The refusal to be a victim to the perpetrators and their enablers, is evidence of the triumph of the human spirit. It is irrelevant of one's background, religious upbringing or the like: sexual abuse of children destroys souls, shatters childhoods, and has life-long implications. I agree that to come forward, work together, and get professional help is the urgent intervention to address and stop this evil. On behalf of myself as a survivor, and for those who haven't yet found their voice: Yaasher Koach - THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. You have brought me some relief today, knowing that I am living in a day and age where, finally, the responsibility has shifted from the child, to the perpetrator and all their enablers. We no longer need to be a slave to our secrets. Your courage and bravery are trail-blazers for the survivor who is too scared to cry.
    With utmost love and respect,
    -Rivka Edery

This is really troubling to hear, the very people that should have the highest moral and ethical values who should know better. Its like they read the Torah and Talmud and failed to internalize the immorality of child abuse. What are these so called pious people thinking???? How can these ultra orthodox criminals even think of this? Did they not learn anything with all that religious training? I am so shocked, appalled and ashamed that my people would commit crimes that should be utterly eliminated by simply believing and follow Torah. Something is dreadfully wrong. We need these communities to have a ZERO tolerance for such behavior. I know that no community any where is immune e.g. catholic priests come to mind, but we expect behavior at a higher level of pious from all human beings especially Chassidim. Sins of this magnitude surely carry consequences in this world and the next. I hope some Chassidim read this and internalize their obligation to report to the Police child abuse, regardless of any consequences.

The constant emphasis on. modesty was most destructive..pulkes pulkes pulkes cover up cover up.
It lead to a cover up.
The damage and also the potential for healing is very great..
Women and girls need equality now. Also no abuse of boys too.

Although this is of course very important, and indeed this organization can accomplish quite a bit, a nasty dangerous side effect is that any victim might feel justified in abandoning their true roots due to the abuse they suffered.
Now,I don't really blame someone for going off on a tangent -for whatever reason- (especially abuse) but many abused victims who haven't even contemplated such a radical move, even after the abuse, might feel justified in doing so by watching this video and/or communicating with victims who have fallen.
Let's face it. [The story behind the story.] An obvious [not so subtle] take on the victims here screams out "I was abused and THAT''S why I abandoned you!". (One person in this video looks like Purim in his/her current attire. I mean it's obvious that the "uniform" being worn is masking a broken heart -not due to the abuse- but due to not staying religious.)
If rebellious feelings (as opposed to depression or helplessness) is the motive, that's a real problem.
I am not only criticizing, I also have a solution as to how you can continue with this great project without causing innocent people to lose their way. (Again, I don't blame you for slipping, but you need ensure that you don't cause others to follow suit:))
As tough as it may be, get hold of abuse victims who have remained chasiddish/religious/whatever they were/, who have overcome the abuse and are now happily married in the community, who have forgiven, who have wonderful friends and families within their original community, and interview THEM. And... THEIR message to current victims, besides therapy, is "mein kind! Hold on! I KNOW what you might be going thru but Hashem will help you!" etc.
And YOUR message, my dear JCW organizer, would then be: "Although I personally slipped a bit due to abuse, you DON'T follow me! I and JCW are here to help you, abuse victims, AND assure that you remain in your school/family/environment. "
This way you might eradicate this evil and help others stay the course in spite of their experiences.
May Hashem shine his light upon you to illuminate the correct path for you to achieve this noble goal.
    A Good Shabbos.

For some if us orthodoxy does not work. this is not due to rebellion but because it does not fit for us.
I wish your concern was more for our wellbeing than for keeping us religious.
I don't think the people here are doing anything wrong or are off path.

I challenge the people who do not like this video to comment why they don't. It is halachicly ok to warn people when someone is a danger to others. Period! It is not lashon hara to call people out and tell others about them if what is being said is true. I hope people do not let any Rabbinical authority to prevent them from going to the police. They should not ever be intimidated by them. People choosing to keep what a molester did a secret is doing chillul Hashem.

Unfortunately, within many segments of the ultra-orthodox Jewish community, it is more important to protect the cultural norm of not going to the police to report these sexual abuse crimes than it is to protect their children. There are many reported instances of families being shunned and vilified by their community for going to the police. This needs to change.
