Sans is widely regarded as one of, if the not the most powerful boss in UNDERTALE... but examining him calls him the 'easiest enemy'! How can that possibly be true? Are we simply being lied to for the sake a joke? Actually, no... he really is a lot weaker than he seems! Underlab explains how; however, could he also be a lot stronger than he appears to be at the same time? How confusing! Only one way to find out...

Underlab I think he's the weakest in hp because he has the strongest magic so he has very weak physical body

Sunny Sewell the only reason he kicks your ass is because of karma
even on the neutral route, It's Raining Somewhere Else never plays if you kill Papyrus because Sans doesn't take you to the restaurant in that case.
ALSO Sans' final psychokinetic attack does deal damage, it just can't kill you. Most players have 1hp left from KR damage at that point anyway so they don't realize but if you watch one of the no hit Sans fights by someone like Merg you'll see that the health reduces, in fact, it does so unavoidably. I'm thinking Sans knows that he can't kill you like that, it's just an almost instinctive act of desperation.

You know how sans "sweats"? Well some people theorize that he actually has determination, and like Undyne he was starting to melt which I think is a pretty solid theory tbh.

You're weak as hell Sans nah, keep in mind, while he has the lowest stats, he more than makes up for it with his abilities, he can stop time, stop an opponent’s turn in entirely, teleport and can do way more damage than he should be able to do. He has the lowest stats, but has the most op abilities

i would say his atk is just one because it IS one.When you get hit, you take 1 point of damage but his attacks are poison or really rapid

The whole thing about Sans is that he only fights you because he feels he can't afford not to care about your actions. The fact that he is so weak is only for not triggering Invincibility frames (he actually does, but they are ridiculously low, the Cloudy Glasses does help there but really little.) and catching you off guard.
I thought the glasses and notebook only helped with how much karma you got...

Actually, Sans will still have the same power he has on Genocide on Pacifist, because you won't have an much health you would have on genocide and sure his KR would be down, but he could still use gaster blasters and other attacks he used on genocide. Now, I know he couldn't poison your health, but your health is so low that he could probably kill you because you have no invincibility frames, and kill you instantly without that poison or KR he uses. This is why I think Sans is just as powerful on Pacifist as on Genocide.
Everything would still only do 1 damage though, right?
Edit: I know its 1 damage per frame for the karma effect, but I'm asking if it were a normal attack if it would only do 1 damage
Edit Edit: my headcanon is that the one hitpoint is all you really need to trigger the health sapping, and how much karma you've built up (the Level of Violence/ Execution Points) is what leads to the higher drainage of HP. Sans probably doesn't attack in the beginning because Frisk/Chara/the Player didn't build up enough LV/EXP yet for him to really damage you, which is why he waits until the end for the best chance for him to get the most KR damage in on you.
TAc Maybe Mabye not it’s a genoside route not a pacifist there atk could be different so that means he let himself go after the promise but if Toriel never made the promise he probably would have had a higher atk then papyrus but he didn’t train in genoside so he has 1 atk

Sans has already partly given up when fighting you. With his power, he could quickly kill you. He also takes longer to dust than most monsters. Most likely, he was still rooting for you. He still had hope you would not keep resetting. If he was using his full strength, he would use gaster blasters covering the fight screen giving you no chance at all.
Yeah, completely true. if someone lets their guard down, given up, or tired and/or gets talken down, their stats will drop. since he gave up on life and truly isnt trying, his stats are shit. I still am not clear on his HP though.
Nothing anywhere ever says Sans has only 1 HP. This is starting to bug me. However, on that note, if he does have only one, maybe he sleeps a lot to keep his HP above his normal limit, the same way Frisk's HP can go beyond their normal capacity when they sleep in an Inn or Hotel.

Makes sense, Sans is extremely weak in terms of raw physical power, but makes up for it through a combination of his magic, his Gaster Blasters, and skill as a fighter. I'd argue that Sans is likely the most skilled fighter in all of Undertale

Boohaloo Jerry takes more hits to kill than almost every other monster in the game, except bosses. So while he lacks direct attacks, he ain't weak.

Maybe all monsters can potentially do stuff he can, but only monsters like Sans knows how to use those blindspots, like KR, or dodging.
I still don't know how he can use so many attacks if he is so weak, but maybe summoning magical attacks doesn't tire, but it is dodging that tires him?

He can see through every timeline. He's given up because he'll never be happy for long. He's given up, and made the promise to toriel, and thats why he doesn't kill you every time you see him.
He can't see in other timelines. This is proof as sans doesn't mention the route you have done before. He is completely unaware that the genocide route has been done when you erase the world
Asgore is more likely to be able to see through timelines, sans never directly says anything about being able to see through timelines. I mean, he knows about the theory, and has figured ways around it (such as the passwords). He could just be a really good expression reader, or have some kind of telepathy.

He reduces your HP to 1hp, however, most people don’t know this because they are already at 1hp
If you removed KR you still take one damaged per each attack you get hit by you know five bones five damage he legit does a single point of damage
You forgot to mention that while his attacks deal only 1 damage, unlike papyrus, his bones will continue to rapidly deal 1 damage every frame until you move away from them, and combined with KR and the nature of his attacks being a lot of bones close together, makes him a formidable enemy.
The same bone only ever does 1HP of true normal damage the fact is KR is like a graph and it has exponential growth and then of course dies down so that melts HP hence how it seams so slow suddenly in the menu because it’s well and truest drooped off

Problems:
He deals one damage... per frame. The higher, the deadlier.
For every physical damage taken from bones, you get karma which hurts you real bad. Different bones give different amounts of KR.
Armor cannot help since the lowest damage you can take at once is 1, which is his damage when you got hit.
Can dodge.
Is also emotionally challenging.
So if you somehow have for example 60 fps,you'll be dealt 60 damage per second,and if you have 92,you'll die in exactly 1 second

You get soft locked if you have immortality I doubt it’s exactly a good place to judge and plus remember when a monster spares it’s DEF goes down well yours might too so you know it’s easier to do so plus you in his eyes are essentially saying I give up and sans doesn’t want to be silly and he knows if you dearly give up then we’ll you will either reset or never load again.

The thing is,
One of the reasons sans attacks are strong,
Is that
You gain a few seconds of immunity when you get hit, and the attack disappears.
With sans however,
You DONT get the immunity ( I think). And the attack still stays there.
Or you just die laughing at his puns -_-

karma... sans doesn't control it but the judgement hall makes it powerful enough to do damage.

He actually is the weakest. He deals one damage, but makes up for it in the "Karma effect". What the Karma Effect is if you look at your HP and see the KR next to the actual amount of HP you have. That basically poisons you and depletes your health. He also makes up for it with his overpowered attacks. If you kill Papyrus and him only, in the judgement hall, he just ends up calling you a dirty brother killer. And he only has 1 defense as well as attack, but he makes up for the low defense with a lot of health. There you have it, the reading sans is the strongest but weakest monster in the underground

If tyou think about it, the reason they could be called Gaster blasters might not only be becuase W.D Gaster made them but also because they are related.
Gaster would be W.D's (wingding's) last name which could also make it Sans's last name.

How to sum up the sans bossfight badly: One of the genocide bosses that gets killed on the first hit.

When sans throws you around the screen, it does damage you. Maybe you just got to that part with only one health left? He can hurt you but only down to one HP. I don't think this has anything to do with sans, though. I think it was just a thing toby threw in to make sure the fight was actually do-able. Without it, he would be impossible to get past no matter what you do. Even on no-hit runs I've seen be done he drains you down to 1 HP, with more throws to come. Basically what I'm saying is if the game was programmed not to stop hurting at one HP, even a full health bar of 92 would wind up empty. Also, sans would probably still be a little stronger than papyrus. You said the KR damage is what will drain most of your health, but from my experience, it's the fact that if you touch his attack it doesn't disappear, and if you were doing pacifist with like 20 health you'd touch an attack and before you have time to react to it your screen says "GAME OVER".

I believe that sans is lying about his stats and the code is just if you hack the game or used a weaker weapon. (what would the game do then?) We do see characters break the forth wall, including sans. I also believe the gaster blasters are one his own attacks, the reason he only does one attack damage is because it uses too much energy, and I believe that Papyrus CAN'T use gaster blasters and that sans has a more, interesting backstory (for example sans was created as, well, a just more powerful monster.)

@@exd1489 you don't have to be rude. Although he only has 1 attack, 1 defence, and 1 HP; doesn't mean he can't kill anything other than a bad human. There's the fact that you don't get invincibility when hit, making it so that measly 1 attack does 30 per second (Undertale runs at 30fps). If he wanted to, with just that alone, he could easily kill every monster. Then the whole dodging thing. Sans has one of the fastest attacks in the game (not counting when multiple monsters appear/falling attacks). The reason why we are able to kill sans is because we had only every attacked him once, catching him off guard. If he was battling another monster, he wouldn't let his guard down. If he wanted to, he would kill everyone in one attack (what happens when you spare him). And even if he was the weakest, strength isn't the only thing at play in a battle, smarts and strategy is important. It's shown that sans is very smart. There are hints, such as the secret lab behind his house and his dialogue in the genocide fight, that shows he's smart, maybe even a scientist.

you actually forgot a really important ability. He can only do 1 damage, but he COMPLETELY bipasses the need to wait to deal more damage. He bipasses the invulnerable screens, meaning he could hit you with 20 bones back to back and still knock you down 20 hp, instead of having to wait a few seconds for the invulnerability phase to end. Also in his desperate flail he does remove HP, just cant drop you down past 1.
i dont think you understand what I was saying. Karmic Retribution is like poison in Pokemon, steadily depleting your health. But take that away, the invulnerable screens are gone unlike any other fight. The screens where your heart flashes and you can't take any damage from attacks, Sans completely bipases these. Even without Karmic Retribution he can still hit you with 20 bones and do 20 HP damage. Any other monster would maybe do 15 or less if hitting you with the same numbered and powered attack rapidly. And I did mention how that last attack can't kill you. I've watched No Hit Sans before. I didn't say it takes you TOO 1 I said it cant go PAST 1. It can't kill you even if you only have 2HP left. But still. I was commenting that he completely forgot that Sans bipasses invulnerabilty screens, that is not Karmic Retribution.
A.G Villegas I say it as I did because it still works. It doesnt knock you past 1, past does not mean it takes you to one. And how Karmic Retribution does that is just an assumption, no where in game does it state KR takes your invulnerability screens to. Stat things dont need to be shown, when your ATK drops it doesnt put a little sign by your HP saying its dropped. When you increase your Invulnerability screen time with the Cloudy Glasses and Notebook it doesnt put anything by your HP bar saying its increased. It could very well be an ability Sans has. Assumption is not proof, and one way or another Underlab did not bring up the point PERIOD meaning it was still forgotten.

1. Sans's telekinesis attack does deal damage, up to 36 points of damage that's impossible to avoid, it just can't kill the player.
2. Taking away Sans's weapons is definitely a weird move. It's similar to taking away Undyne's Spear or Asgore's Trident. I suppose one could say Gaster wrote his name on it so it's different than the other examples, although on the other hand there are a few theories out there that say Sans and Papyrus have a very close relationship to Gaster or may even be parts of him. Regardless, just because someone didn't create a weapon doesn't discount their skill when using it.
3. Regarding Papyrus, a much better question would be if he's actually as weak as he seems, which you may have already done a video on, I'm not certain. It almost looks like Papyrus was being used as an example of a weak character, but Papyrus is pretty much the best example in all of Undertale of someone who's holding back, even in Genocide. Although many fangames out there have already capitalized on this idea.
I understand this video was created just to get something out or to toy with an idea without being serious at all, but it seems like a lot of abstract reaches were made in an attempt to get people thinking about a piece of detail placed within Sans's battle. While Sans does deal the least amount of flat damage per hit and has the lowest defense out of the main characters, the frequency of his attacks, his agility, difficulty dodging each attack, and overall battle length are stats that will exceed most others.
Let's be real, Sans is no way one of the strongest characters in Undertale, he is so weak, he needs to cheat to make himself harder. Removing invincibility frames, inducing poison and attacking you during your turn, all of it was to make himself harder and frustrating.
So, Sans is the weakest boss, but also one of the hardest. He takes advantage of his weakness to make himself harder to kill.
Sans maybe the strongest human killer but he is the weakest monster because he only deal 1 damage to monsters and human, Karma is also dealing low damage to monsters but high damage to humans. Sans is weaker than Papyrus because Papyrus damage is higher, defense is higher and higher HP. It mean he is very weak again monsters.
It's not about whether or not it's a monster or human as long as you do bad things Karma will hit you hard.

I really think Sans is only strong thanks to Gaster. He uses Skull-like lasers called Gaster Blasters, and he just moves his arms to attack a lot, (mainly) Gaster is theorized to be Sans father. Maybe thats why he can make his right eye glow, teleport, and go in different timelines. In a secret room which seems to be a mini-lab, you see a blue paper, with some weird language that belongs to W. D. Gaster. This is proof that Gaster and Sans know each other, and the object that is covered up by a blanket (I think...) is a machine that allows Sans to get/go in different timelines. Knowing that Gaster is a character you only find when hacking the game, he can glitch out and all that. And time travel. If it were not for Gaster, Sans would be weak. (Sorry Its long!!)
Technically, we don't even know if we ever get to see Gaster. Mystery Man may be Gaster, but Toby never confirmed this.

Matthew Vlogs nope. The eye is because of the power needed to use the attacks in the first place, hence him getting really tired by the end of the battle. The eye also allows him to teleport you, near the end of the battle, he gets tired, and if you try moving, he teleports you back to the middle

why "secretly" in the first place? it IS said that sans is the weakest character of the underground... the reasons why sans is so hard to beat in the genocide fight is :
1 because even if he only deals one damage point per attack, the player doesn't have invincibility frames, + the karma bar (the purple bar)
2 Sans wants to kill frisk enough to become tougher. It is said in the snowdin library, the strengh of a monster depends on his will to fight and kill, the more a monster wants to kill, the more it will be strong, on the contrary, if a monster doesn't want to fight, it can be easily killed.

Since he removes your Invincibility Frames, and the poison effect if Karma wouldn't be all that useful against someone who doesn't have a high LV anyway (due to their low HP) I definitely wouldn't say that he weak. He's pretty strong and just about every aspect. And while he does have 3 glaring weaknesses, his ATTACK, DEFENSE, and HP, he covers all those weaknesses very easily.
While he can only deal 1 damage, he still has the highest damage output of anyone due to the removal of INV, (which we know is disconnected from KR since he takes that HP away while it's Yellow, and doesn't turn it Purple, meeting that it would be just as viable even if the opponent isn't a crappy person.)
And he can get past his defense in HP with extreme mobility.
