    Dont let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda Civics with Spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry's and bought three t66 turbos with NOS, and a Motec exhaust system.

    I used to be one of those “this car is everywhere” type of person. But after the domestic brands ditched me my only choice was Honda. The truth is that after awhile you don’t care that you see this car everywhere cause it just does everything you need it to do so well. Yes there is cars with better tech and yes there is cars that stand out more in the design department but they will not check every box like a Honda will. The most important factors when buying a car is comfort, ride quality, reliability, fuel efficiency, and resale value. The Accord checks all those boxes

    You really don't need AWD at all. A set of winter tires would do the job. There's a new segment of tires in the US, common in europe, called all weather tires. It's essentially a real all season tire. The popular and the one that stands out the most is the Michelin Crossclimate 2 tires. They act as a summer tire and winter tire.

    Same color as my Type R! Pretty much the same engine too! As a former 2018 Accord touring 2.0T owner, the subtle changes are a nice improvement. The rear usb outlets were a dealer installed option before, but it looks like they just made that standard now. Seeing as how much time I spend stuck in traffic going below 50mph, the accord hybrid is kind of looking like the ultimate daily driver.

    I own a 2018 Accord Hybrid Touring and I love it. It's such a pleasure to drive. Great handling and cornering. And sport mode is the icing on the cake. I find that I rarely used the Garmin navi that comes with the car. Instead I just tell Siri to take me where ever I want to go. It's much quicker responding than the Garmin. My only complaint are the seats. I like a firm seat and have always liked Honda's seats from 1974 on until I got this 2018. Maybe it's just my arthritic butt. Great review both of you!

  • @TheKingkingg

    Love your reviews... I own a 2020 Accord 2.0T sport in northern Ontario Canada and with nokian winter tires have no issues. You do notice heavier steering inputs and rougher on rough roads when using 19 " summer wheels. All cars in this class look awesome and have some awesome features, but this is still best and design will be timeless. Also, for a family sedan it's very quick and very fast 0 to 105 km in 6.3 seconds with family of four, my son 14 yrs old and 6ft 4 inches love room in back compared to our Ridgelines, Odyssey, Civic, TLX, cayenne, or gls. He finds its comparable to our 2021 F150 powerboost hybrid... Keep up the great work, but remember good winter tires make huge differences, and feeling of testing or renting is different than when it's yours. My wife didn't want our Accord saying too big and looks like grandma car, but I bought black pearl, tinted, windows, got red pinstripe in front, black vinyl wrap chrome on front, red sport and red vtech turbo stickers and place like civic EX-T turbo sticker, window visors, lights to replace bumper reflectors which work with turn signal 4 ways and brakes, etc... When she say, she fell in love and even more when I told her same engine as her Type R, and driving Accord a lot more than me... She was disappointed to hear Evie doesn't love it and say try a road trip.

    I have a 2018 1.5t with the manual transmission. The 1.5t is plenty of power for daily driving, although I wanted to trade in on a 2.0t just because of the oil dilution issue in the 1.5, but alas they’ve since gotten rid of the manual transmission altogether in the Accord, so I’d probably go for a hybrid if I had to get an autobox. That said, I’ll keep the manual for as long as possible. For emotion factor, I love the look of the car. As Evie said, it has a bit of a timeless look that should age gracefully (ie: A little boring), but I didn’t buy it for the looks; I bought it because in a world where the manual transmission is quickly fading into obscurity I wanted to buy a midsized sedan with a manual transmission before they all disappeared, so I could hold onto it and drive it until I die, snd then they can bury me in the thing. This car is hopefully going to accomplish exactly that, and for that reason I love it.
    The 19” wheels really make the interior drone after you’ve driven it for a while, especially on rough pavement, and I don’t look forward to replacing the tires. I really wish the big wheel fad would go away. That said, I’m commuting between Los Angeles and San Luis Obispo right now so I really love getting 40 MPG on my commutes.

    Great and honest review. This Accord is really really attractive inside and out and the driving dynamics is just too awesome. But one thing your review did point out that I noticed with Honda is that you have to go to the top trim to get some basic features. For example satellite radio isn’t available on the Accord Sport 1.5T. Away from that it’s a car that is hard to pass up when shopping for this class of vehicle. However I will be passing on this. Mainly for the Honda dealers in my area make Atrocious sound nice. I recently bought a civic and had a very very bad experience at the end that I should’ve left the car where it was. A better example of how bad their dealers are, one of them ended up on hot water with the Federal Trade Commission for discriminatory financing based on race. So because of this and 3 trips to Honda dealers as of 2 months ago I will not be a repeat customer. But there is no doubt this car is beyond awesome to own.

    • @hillstones
      @hillstones 3 года назад +1

      You are very correct on how skimpy Honda is on features. For example, you cannot even get Satellite radio on a Civic unless you get the highest trim level with navigation. No navigation, no satellite radio. And higher trims are required to get CarPlay and Android Auto. And none of the Hondas have a 360 all around camera. Their dealers and service are awful these days too.

    In comparing the hybrid vs. the 1.5 L engine and fuel costs, since there is a $3000 difference in price, it would take you 90,000 miles, or 6 years of normal driving (split evenly city/hwy) to make up the cost difference. To me, that is way too long to break even. If hybrid cars were cheaper than gas only cars AND they put large gas tanks in them (to get an incredible driving range), then and only then, would I consider purchasing a hybrid. I agree with Evie...I would not drive the Accord either. :) Great format, great review. Looking forward to the next one!!

      One huge positive of the hybrid accord is that the way the electric motor assist operates gives the vehicle a nice torquey punch off the line that the base 1.5 lacks big time. Makes the car feel a lot faster off the line than it really is. If you do a lot of city driving this is a huge factor worthy of paying extra for.

  • @stephenhendricks103

    Hmmm....I have a soft spot for Hondas having owned a couple of two wheel vehicles, a couple of lawn mowers along with a much loved Honda Prelude. And when I was comparing mainstream midsize sedans in 2018 the Accord Touring 2.0L topped my personal checklist ahead of the Mazda6, the V6 Camry, and the Ford Fusion. At the time I thought the front end styling looked like it was designed by a committee but the latest version has been cleaned up to a considerable degree. But time marches on and while the Accord retains its strengths the competition has gotten tougher.
    Two aspects of the Accord are near deal breakers for me. First, there's the absence of AWD on any model. True, it's not as if Honda stands out clearly on that score. Hyundai doesn't offer AWD on any version of the new Sonata. Toyota, Nissan, and KIA all offer AWD but only on their lower trim, less powerful versions of their midsize sedans. As Micah notes, only Subaru provides AWD on every trim level of the Legacy but weaknesses like Subaru's less than ideal CVT undermine its appeal.
    Apparently nearly every automaker believes the decline of sedan sales doesn't warrant investment in AWD, especially for their top trims. That's a mistake for consumers like me who live on the west side of the Cascades. We don't get much snow around the Puget Sound but the mountains are less than two hours away making the Cascades a frequent destination for winter skiing. And while our image as victims of constant rain is way overblown, AWD is a welcome feature on our frequently wet roads. And for sedans with 250-300 hp and associated low end torque getting the power to the road even in dry weather is significantly improved with AWD. The low take rate of performance versions of mainstream sedans makes automakers' decision not to offer AWD on top trims (or at all) is understandable but it's still disappointing.
    Second, the absence of embedded navigation in the Accord Sport is annoying, at best. Yes, I frequently use Android Auto/Apple CarPlay for navigation but there are areas where phone connections are spotty and those are often exactly the places where I rely on navigation. Furthermore, if a vehicle doesn't offer satellite based navigation, the automaker should at least provide WIRELESS connectivity. The requirement to deal with a tangle of wires simply to activate navigation is a a PITA. Again, Honda isn't alone in this particular cost cutting decision but that doesn't make it any less annoying.
    So what to do? In my case it means the selection of an affordable midsize sedan with AWD and embedded navigation is reduced to a couple of other options--the KIA Stinger GT-Line with an excellent 2.5L turbo four with an MSRP and AWD of about $40K and a VW Arteon with an MSRP that with AWD for an MSRP around $45K.

    Don't do the hybrid of you do a lot of driving at 50-60mph. The noise cancelation system creates a horrifically loud drumming noise that the radio can't even drown out. This is a well known problem for this generation accord hybrid, and there is no solution to the problem. I own a 2019 EXL hybrid and have dealt with this for over a year.

    Summarized perfectly for an Accord. Weird feature exclusions (missing nav on $32k car), roomier than expected, still vanilla. Evie’s conclusion that it’s a good car but not for HER family in the mountains is totally logical. Any reviews of hybrid suvs soon?

    Question: if this trim doesn't have embedded navigation, how were directions coming up on the instrument panel at 07:34? Can it give you step-by-step directions even just through Android Auto/ CarPlay?

    • @fraservalley9027
      @fraservalley9027 5 месяцев назад

      Yes, Android auto/CarPlay will connect to your cell phone automatically via Bluetooth (after you set it up your phone on the menu screen the first time) and it will display Nav on the center screen and also give you voice directions. I don’t have embedded Nav on my car and it works great. Once in a while I have to go in the menu and tell it to connect to my specific cell phone as my passenger may have been the last person to connect to the system with their cellphone.

      Honda transmissions never could handle the V6. Their solution was drop the V6 instead of fixing the transmission. Clarity offers the plug in hybrid. Identical car.

    You literally don't need navigation if you have an iPhone with this car. The wireless Appleplay connects so fast, that you can use the Apple maps app on your phone.

    • @hillstones
      @hillstones 3 года назад

      Sometimes you could be in an area without cell service. Satellite Navigation works everywhere and more trim levels should offer it. Second, if you rely on Apple Maps, you definitely will get lost. Even in Los Angeles, Apple Maps is wrong. Wireless CarPlay is not standard in the Accord, and as Evie pointed out, it is sometimes easier to use the built in Nav, rather than plug in your phone.

    I thought the hybrid Accord is the Clarity? And Insight is the hybrid Civic?

    • @EUC-lid
      @EUC-lid 3 года назад

      The Clarity is a separate platform with a Civic-based front end and a bespoke rear suspension to make room for the hydrogen tank on the fuel cell version. The Clarity was available in EV form for the first several years. The most popular version of the Clarity is the Plug-In hybrid. It can travel about 40miles in EV mode and can get ~50mpg when driven in Hybrid Vehicle (HV) mode with sufficient power in the 17 kWh traction battery and more like 40mpg when the battery is allowed to deplete before using HV mode. This is because the Clarity PHEV uses a 1.5L NA engine and without the traction battery to fill in torque deficits, the engine is made to spin up outside of its efficiency zone (low RPM and throttle).
      The Accord Hybrid is not a plug-in, uses a 2.0L NA engine, has a 1.3 kWh battery that doesn't take up any cargo room.
      The Clarity, Insight, Accord, and CR-V hybrids all use the same basic two motor hybrid drive system that's essentially a sequential hybrid with the traction motor providing smooth EV torque in all but a few conditions (a single gear speed for low throttle highway cruising) and using the ICE as a generator to recharge the traction battery.

    The new Honda is just look so freaking GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! Can't resist it!

  • @hillstones
    @hillstones 3 года назад

    Honda’s reliability and quality has gone downhill. My last Honda in 2013 was a complete lemon and Honda’s service was terrible. I ditched the car after 7 failed repair attempts. Unfortunate too because my 2003 Accord was a great car. The new Accord is built on the smaller Civic chassis, and in typical Honda fashion, they have considerably less tech and less features than the competition. And this new body style is pretty ugly too. They don’t even hide or protect the front sensor. It would be cool if Honda brought back their good cars, like the Prelude, a real CRX (not that joke called the CRZ), and the S2000. Great review too, and honest…the Accord is not the car for all environments.
