You hit the nail on the head. Beatdown Hardcore for e.g takes influence from Death Metal and strips it down keeping it more simple but still heavy, in some cases more heavier.
I tend to rely on a simplified power chord sort of thing, although it really depends on the sound I'm trying to get. 3 AD breaks, I'm impressed. Didn't know you got monetized. Awesome dude! every little bit helps in these dark days. Never miss your vids because i always learn something or renew my interest. I'd love to write more punk as I've been a fan since the mid eighties.

tip for pop punk song.. take position 1 of major scale whatever key your In let’s say C…make a quick riff then play power chord progression over that like a 1,5,64 (c,g,a,f) palm mute the progression for the verse repeat for the chorus.. for a bridge play 3 of the chords slowly an experiment with the techniques you show here but that formula for me always comes out sounding like pop punk
I’ve been producing for about 2 years so I am a noob but this is the best how to video for punk rock guitar I’ve found. Also your brand of subtle comedy is very fun. I just recently wanted to figure out punk music because my favorite band in high-school was Relient K. They weren’t super huge but they drew heavily from punk and blended it with some other genres at times. I want to take inspiration from them but until now I didn’t know how to. I was trynna learn heart shaped box by nirvana but every tuning I do sounds like shit
Eb is basically the same as standard everything is just a semi tone or one note lower. The voicings and everything are the same. Keep practicing, you'll get there!
As an old school punk, you lost when you started talking about fancy things like alternate tunings, Octaves, and half steps. In original punk, you were lucky if the guitars even knew about standard tuning. You couldn't just clip out a tuner to your guitar on the olden days. You just got somebody older than you to tune it, and you just played it until you ran into them again. Rinse and repeat. The world has truly changed. If you wanted to know how to play punk rock in the past, you just listened to record and did your best. And nobody would know if you were doing it wrong cause they didn't know either.😂 Nice video man have a great one.
I have since done a lot of research and these are considered augmented power chords. I'll be touching on them more in the future, but you are correct, they're a staple in punk rock 🤙

As I said in the video, there are rules to music theory. However, those rules can be bent, or broken. Typically modern popular music is either in a major scale (happy) or minor scale (sad) tho that's super simplifying music theory. You don't NEED to know theory to write music, but it certainly doesn't hurt!

Those are some nice tones. I always have trouble sliding up and down the fretboard playing those power chords. I catch myself choking the neck too tight, making it more difficult to navigate LOL

@@charliekill88 it's all good! For that specific technique you want to just pick each note individually. Try playing around with the pattern to come up with something you like!

The Tom Delonge thing u did is called suspended power chord and its there in MCR and simple plan songs too and it’s common in pop punk

I use an SSL 2 interface which is pretty cheap. A focusrite scarlet is also a good option

Use your index finger to mute the 2nd string of the chord. Unless the open note fits the scale, then it sounds fun!
