    Punk to me is like stripping away the technicality and complexity of metal. Keeping the soul and energy but directing it in a simple direct positive direction.

      You hit the nail on the head. Beatdown Hardcore for e.g takes influence from Death Metal and strips it down keeping it more simple but still heavy, in some cases more heavier.

    I tend to rely on a simplified power chord sort of thing, although it really depends on the sound I'm trying to get. 3 AD breaks, I'm impressed. Didn't know you got monetized. Awesome dude! every little bit helps in these dark days. Never miss your vids because i always learn something or renew my interest. tip for pop punk song.. take position 1 of major scale whatever key your In let’s say C…make a quick riff then play power chord progression over that like a 1,5,64 (c,g,a,f) palm mute the progression for the verse repeat for the chorus.. for a bridge play 3 of the chords slowly an experiment with the techniques you show here but that formula for me always comes out sounding like pop punk

    I’ve been producing for about 2 years so I am a noob but this is the best how to video for punk rock guitar I’ve found. Also your brand of subtle comedy is very fun. I just recently wanted to figure out punk music because my favorite band in high-school was Relient K. They weren’t super huge but they drew heavily from punk and blended it with some other genres at times. I want to take inspiration from them but until now I didn’t know how to. As an old school punk, you lost when you started talking about fancy things like alternate tunings, Octaves, and half steps. In original punk, you were lucky if the guitars even knew about standard tuning. You couldn't just clip out a tuner to your guitar on the olden days. You just got somebody older than you to tune it, and you just played it until you ran into them again. Rinse and repeat. The world has truly changed. If you wanted to know how to play punk rock in the past, you just listened to record and did your best. And nobody would know if you were doing it wrong cause they didn't know either.😂 Nice video man have a great one.

    • @anndynegative
      @anndynegative  4 года назад +9

      As I said in the video, there are rules to music theory. However, those rules can be bent, or broken. Typically modern popular music is either in a major scale (happy) or minor scale (sad) tho that's super simplifying music theory. You don't NEED to know theory to write music, but it certainly doesn't hurt!

    when playing octaves power chords, what do u do with the chord that would be the fifth? do u palm mute or just let it ring open or idk wtf u do with that motherfocker chord its sounds so bad when i just let it open and ignore it (the chord between the tonic and the octave)

    • @krishnaribeiro7618
      @krishnaribeiro7618 4 года назад

      and im pretty sure that wasnt tom delonge who invented the suspended power chord (dunno if its the right but i dont care too) the first band u saw using was nofx but probably they just copy from older punk bands lol idc who invented tho but just saying was tom ;)

      Use your index finger to mute the 2nd string of the chord. Unless the open note fits the scale, then it sounds fun!

    It’s very simple your just gonna-
    Jump cuts to him playing it without explaining where to put my fingers or which chords to strum
    (Edit) I’m fucking stupid ignore this comment. Although, if you had trouble learning this pattern, maybe the comments below would help.

      As I explain in the video you're just moving the root of a power chord around so it can be done with basically any chord.

    • @charliekill88
      @charliekill88 4 года назад

      Am I just strumming same strings regardless of the chord I’m playing? Or do I have to match my strumming pattern with the root, the fifth and the octave positions? I appreciate your response and apologies if I came off a little rude.

    • @anndynegative
      @anndynegative  4 года назад +1

      @@charliekill88 it's all good! For that specific technique you want to just pick each note individually. Try playing around with the pattern to come up with something you like!
