    I personally think it sounds better around the 1.25 speed mark, but it’s such a good arrangement that can sound good at written temp and faster

    is it normal for the 2nd trumpet to have the solo parts?

      In these big band arrangements by big publishers they tend to put solos on 2nd Part, I believe in a traditional big band setting the 2nd trumpet does most of the improv and the 1st plays screamers/lead

      It's in 7/4. The rhythm section, especially drums and bass, really have to be on top of it. Also improvising in 7/4 is a lot harder than it looks.
