It'd be funny if that was Henry Mitchell's origin story. I remember that episode of "Dennis the Menace" where he learns his dad was just like him as a kid.
Henry feels like the definition of the "Gonna get blamed anyways, might as well earn it." breaking point some kids have with siblings that never face consequence for anything even when it *is* their fault.

I feel so bad for Henry. He and Arthur straight up get treated like Meg Griffin in their own shows, karma in cartoons really do their job wrong, for Henry’s case when he would do something good something bad would happen, but in other cartoons with the characters being absolute dickhead when they do something bad, something good would happen. It seems like karma likes to troll us in these kinds of shows.
I do agree that Henry's parents can be too harsh, but Henry does deserve to be scolded sometimes. Dude literally blew up a whole turkey all over the dining room 😂
So there's a British comic character called Dennis the Menace (not to be confused with the American one) and whilst there's surface level similarities there's strong character traits that work against Henry. Dennis lives life to the fullest. Seeing it as one adventure. Pulling pranks either as quick jabs or to solve problems (sometimes helping others in the process). He has a positive outlook, a good circle of friends and does seem care about those around him and not just about himself. Henry is a selfish brat who throws tantrums every chance he gets and only thinks about himself. Often screwing people over and only helping them to help himself. Over exaggerating how he's treated to see himself as both villain and victim.
I can't even lie, I grew up watching the show. I loved it, the characters were fun and I enjoyed the dynamics. As I got older, I realized that Peter or Henry weren't the problem. It was the parents. They would constantly belittle Henry in saying stuff like 'Why can't you be more like your brother' which is just awful for a parent to say. Henry only really acts out when he's upset or wants attention, which is valid for any child who has a sibling. Especially when you're that young. I never liked how they always put Peter on a pedestal.
Horrid Henry is the definition of “blame the victim” I’m not gonna pretend like Henry is a particularly good kid or anything, he is a brat, but that’s a result of his parents treating him so poorly
Part of why he's sympathetic in the show and his parents seem so awful is that the books actually do have Henry as this irredeemable monster child. They toned him down for the show, but his parents stayed the same in terms of characterization.
Plenty of kids have terrible parents but they don't all become horrible brats. I hate this thinking that "every kid is a piece of sh*t by nature and only good parenting can make them good/tolerable".

I feel real bad for Horrid Henry and Perfect Peter since they have a psycho for a mother and a nag for a father. Those boys are going to be screwed up mentally in different ways when they grow up.
Honestly, it’s kind of sad when you think about it because at least Arthur and Caillou’s parents actually love and care about them they’re just really bad at having control of the kids and needs to learn to have better control over them Henry’s parents need to be arrested for multiple children laws and it’s kind of weird to call Henry horrid when in this show. Yes, he is mischievous but for the most part, he’s a fairly good kid not a incredible kid far from it but he’s definitely a good kid since he still cares about the people around him unlike his parents
Seriously. The kid walks into the room and says hi and the mom immediately says “don’t be horrid”. If her golden child walked in the room and said hi she would immediately say “hi sweetie“
The "nappy" episode was all Prissy Polly's fault. Vomiting Vera was HER responsibility. I don't know if Polly has the same job as Fuming Fransesca, but if she had to do something, it's to actually be responsible of your kid. I don't even like children and I think kids should be treated with responsibility from their own parents, not from a relative. Your children are your job.
Regarding the boss coming to dinner: During the 1950s and '60s, the "Classical Era" of the domestic sit-com, I think it actually _was_ much more common to invite people you weren't romantically interested in to a fancy dinner to show your respect and/or appreciation, and you probably actually _would_ invite your boss (and his wife) to dinner if you were angling for a promotion, or he'd invite you (and your wife) if the question was already settled in your favor. Over the years the custom largely died out, with business meals largely moving to restaurants and more often being business _lunches_ (i.e., during normal business hours), but the "Guess who's coming to dinner" setup stuck around in TV land, and if I had to guess I'd say it's because it's just _so darn convenient_ for getting the crazy kids, the naughty pets, and the bumbling and/or magic spouse in on the wacky work-related nonsense, the potentially career-ending embarrassing mishap, the frenzied rescue attempt, and the inevitable but often heartwarming "I like the cut of your jib" talk from the dessert-covered boss-man before the promotion happens despite it all or the employee-parent gets transferred to a new department they'll actually like and be useful in.
I would NOT be able to stand having Perfect Peter as my brother, and I'm glad their parents are NOT my parents. Horrid Peter
surprised to see matt neff covering one of the shows of my childhood
Did you like this show growing up?
@@mattneff yep
I admittedly never even watched this show, but the internet sure as hell made it easy for me to see what the family's problem was. I.E: HORRIBLE parents!!
Why does every character look like they have a case of the sniffles? Seriously, why have red noses and cheeks when they aren't even sick?
I don’t have a Patreon, but if you can, may you please do “Babies in Toyland” for “Angelica Can Eat It?” You could call it “ANGELICA RUINS DIL’S FIRST CHRISTMAS.” Thanks so much! Happy holidays!
I remember that episode, and I thought, "Has Angelica learned nothing from the last Christmas Special?!"
It must be hard being Henry! No wonder he's so horrid!
I mean Henry did make Peter think he will die because he had an collectible Henry wanted and then made his mom pay hundreds for boxes of cereal because of him
