Was phenomenal ‼️ But I can't help wondering , what that movie would've been like . If that role had been played by the actor Thomas Jefferson Byrd ❓️💡🤔 . He bears a slight resembles to Ike Turner . And he played those street wise gritty personality characters . 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

She was behind on her rent not too long ago. Lawd I hope he paid her rent this time. I don't know why he don't just buy her a house and pay it off. Maybe he did by now. Anywho Laurence fishburne is in the same category with Denzel Washington, and Samuel L Jackson. I feel like all 3 could play the same roles. Denzel could've played Ike. @Jolene8 I don't necessarily agree with him that the film didn't need overt violence because that's exactly what Tina's experience was, it was extremely violent and volatile but I understand why he wanted none of it, as someone who was once an abuser himself, it must have been triggering so I think it was much more about protecting himself than anybody else.

Seen this video at 6am. This movie made me scared of Lawrence for very long time because my mom was a domestic violence victim and my dad acted just like Ike. This interview has shed so much perspective 👏🏾 on how and why he chose the role (he played it to a T). This was an excellent interview

And I know what he means. A woman can drive you so mad, that you are helpless. This does not excuse violence, it may explain how it sometimes comes.
But in the case of Ike Turner? He has a history of being violent with other women, too. I am not sure how much the above can serve as an explanation.

Even if Tina had a violent personality she would have been intelligent enough not to fight a volatile, narcissistic drug addicted individual like Ike, I mean who in their right mind would wanna do that, especially a woman unless they were suicidal?

I love that he set those boundaries while filming what’s love for to do with it to protect his and Angela’s mental state but also use it as a tool to pull the audience in. Specifically the scene where Tina and the background singers are having a pool party and he drags her in the house and beats her, we don’t see it but we have to use our imagination. When I watch the scene I feel like one of the singers outside by the pool watching/hearing what’s happening and feeling absolutely helpless. That’s great acting/directing on his part!

I was 8 years old when that movie came out and lemme tell you, I didn’t know how impactful those abuse scenes were on my little eyes and brain. There’s a reason for parental advisories. It was hard to watch with even the obstructions he spoke of! To know that there was a possibility for it to be shot even more explicitly is not something I can fathom. Man. He was mentally ill. That's what it is. He was an abuser. But, I like that Laurence was transparent about his own emotional landscape. Because, he played the character brilliant. I'm glad he cared enough to tell the crew members and Director. What he didn't want. In respect to IKE and Tina. Regardless of how we may feel. The man help to cultivate her as a talent.
