Kuch log yeh galatfehmi rakhte hain ki surges sirf lightning girne par hi hoti hain, lekin yeh zaroori nahi hai. Bhari upkaran jaise air conditioners, heaters, refrigerators, microwave ovens, ya bade motors ko on ya off karne par bhi voltage spikes ho sakte hain, jo ki surges hote hain. Agar koi factory nearby hai aur waha bade motors hain, toh unko on ya off karne par bhi surges ho sakte hain.
