This title speaks to me. A lot of the starters are deceptively good (Longsword, Broadsword, Mace, Club, Estoc), but Uchi just might be the best of the best. If you pick Samurai, you have all the tools you need to beat the game.
I will say this. The first time I ever beat that grafted spider demon at the start of the game without dying was when I randomly picked a Samurai class. There's something to be said about the Uchi...
Personally I think the best starting weapon is the bastard sword. It has good strength scaling for most elemental affinities you apply to it which makes it very versatile whether you’re using chilling mist, bloody slash, flaming strike, sacred blade, or any of the physical aow’s. You also need next to no stat requirements, if you two hand the weapon you only need 11 str and 10 dex making it one of the best entry level greatswords in the game. And to top it all off you can buy it in weeping peninsula meaning you can pick it up very early on. The movement is decent, the weight is decent, and the damage is good. Compared to the uchigatana you’ll need less stat points to begin using it, it will do more damage per hit, and you will be able to stun and stance break enemies much quicker allowing you to do much more damage to mobs and bosses.
Greatswords have always been my favorite class of weapons. My favorite early game one would have to be the Claymore. It's also in Weeping Peninsula and has that wonderful thrusting R2 attack! I still think the uchi is best for brand new players since you get it right away, but a greatsword with something like impaling thrust is a poise breaking machine!
I usually start with golden halaberd on wretch, boss isn't that hard to do on level 1 but you gotta level up to wear it. You can also get dragon communion seal at level 1 by getting stone key keepsake and defeating boss near spawn(dungeon with chariot), but that's faith builds. However, katana might be fun. Something before moonveil at the very least.
I haven't used the dragon communion seal in ages! I remember the first time I got it I had trouble killing the knight that drops it, so I had the chariot do it for me, lol!
@@the_jersey_side Yea, that's the cheesy way when starting out, xD. Perfectly valid though! I do the same, I was so proud of myself when I first figured out how to kill him that way, lol. Kinda crazy how you can get one of the best seals in the whole game just next to starting area. I can't recommend the seal enough, but it definitely can get boring, not changing your weapon for the whole playthrough. I did test out Uchigatana, I always dismissed it as a weapon inferior to moonveil but suprisingly it holds up really well, it is a really good weapon, and the fact you can change ashes of war on it only makes it better. It gets overlooked and overshadowed by moonveil, but it is not weak by any means. It shall become my starter weapon next playthrough, easier to equip than golden halberd and (imo) way more fun.
@iamerror1699 heck yes! One advantage of using the Uchi on an Int build over the Moonveil is you can cold infuse it. Unsheathe + frostbite + bleed is a crazy combo!
Samurai starts with Uchi, you can get the second Uchi real fast. You can kill Yura to get Nagakiba very early. Unsheathe is available in the first minutes of the game. DLC will have great katanas. Miyazaki is pushing katana agenda real hard 😭
Whoa, did you just claim that a weeb stick is _better_ than the old reliable Longsword?! REEEEEEEEEE I'm joking of course, the "bland" weapons in each weapon class are almost always the same across these games because they're incredibly reliable and efficient for how easy they are to acquire and use. Though I love Square Off, I wholeheartedly agree that Unsheathe feels better because it gives you both vertical _and_ horizontal reach; something Square Off lacks. But they also serve different purposes: Square Off is more about consistent stance breaks when also paired with Guard Counters, while Unsheathe is more about mobility and reach to help you apply Bleed more effectively. The Serpentbone Blade would be my undisputable favourite weapon, in Elden Ring, if it had Unsheathe. For anyone who might be reading this, consider using a Heavy infusion if you intend on two-handing anything because of the STR bonus you receive. P.S. Those Waves of Darkness dodges at 1:00 were on point. I've never been able to do intentionally because the timings just don't match my tempo so playing passively works better for me.
I can't tell you how many times I've missed with the Square Off light follow up when I swear I hit the target. Unsheathe just feels like an aimbot after not using it for so long! Hard agree on the heavy infusion for the Uchi, it still gets great scaling with it! A heavy uchi was how I beat the game at RL1. The heavy uchi made it much easier than I was expecting. Waves of darkness is so tricky to dodge. It's optimal dodge timing is slightly off the fastest that you can spam dodge. Getting consistent at that dodge took me well over 100 Astel fights!
@mwsilva9193 I think they're awesome! I haven’t used the Great Katana much itself (although I plan a build for it soon), but the Dragon Hunter's Great Katana is one of my favorite new weapons!
do you think its too late to start a new character for the dlc? I was thinking of doing an rl 135 quality build with a little int faith and arc to get some variety or an rl135 paladin tank with the erdtree greatshield and rings of light/any faith weapons.
I think there's still plenty of time! If you don't have much time to play, I would rush towards Ranni's questline first to clear Radahn. Then, head straight for Commander Niall to get to the portal to Moghwyn Palace in the Snowfield. You'll get plenty of levels and larval tears, so you can spec into whatever cool DLC weapons you can find!
Start with it. But the rest is only valid if you plan to build around it considering the great number of fun and good weapons this game has it gets kinda boring. I do use it off hand with bloodhound step in dual katana builds tho for quick scape.

Indeed! it's crazy the game gives you a bleed weapon that's great at breaking poise before you even gain control of your character

Clean as hell gameplay in these clips woah
Thanks! This is playthru #128 so I my gameplay better be good by now🤣

what is your opinion on the "Great Katana" sir?

@@the_jersey_side Sounds great, I will follow this path!
Never too late, depends on how much content you wanna replay@@walk-monkey

Nagakiba better
