As a PR person, this isn't PR - by definition. I'm not sure what it is, but it's NOT your true definition of PR. Traditional PR (and more importantly SUCCESSFUL PR placements) does NOT involve payment. That's the whole point. That you don't spend money to secure coverage of your product. This is pay for play by the brand - full stop. I wish people would stop calling it "PR."

what gets me is that they almost certainly didn’t pay full price for those bracelets and most likely made some sort of deal with Hermes. like Apple i could definitely see using it as advertising. I have reviewed so many products, 90$ dog food, 90$ heated blanket, 140$ glass bottle of lotion, make up, food, kitchen supplies, kiss nail products ECT.. I'm not saying y'all are just jealous but I think if you guys realized you could be getting this stuff too you wouldnt be so frustrated.

I started using Tarte over a decade ago because they were a clean beauty brand and their eyeliners and concealers were the best. I used to buy 90% of my makeup products from them, but then they discontinued some of my favorite products and gradually replaced their beautiful, luxurious looking packaging with brightly colored, generic, cheap looking packaging. Everything that they put out now looks like it’s geared towards teenagers. You’re right - the money that used to go into quality makeup products now goes into influencers’ pockets.
Cause they are branded towards teens!! They're taking advantage of the crazy trend of CHILDREN using skincare and it's gross. All about the money for them.
I like ELF and they are clean too. Great products, great prices.
one of my friends is a beauty blogger. she actually collects all the pr boxes and donates unused products to nursing homes, shelters or hospices. we are not from the usa, so her pr boxes are pretty modest, but in months she collects enough makeup to make some people really happy. women there want to care for themselves, to have a bit of the luxury of owning something beautiful only for them.

I wish more influencers would do that, because I'm always seeing videos of drawers and closets full of expensive clothes and makeup that they literally ADMIT they never use, and then they giggle about it. Genuinely can’t wait for the day influencing is no longer a job but more so a hobby as it should be. This was literally INSANE. There’s plenty of days where I hate going to my 9-to-5 job, but then I see videos like this and remember the literal insanity. It makes me appreciate my stable income and use of my degree that actually is a job that applies to the real world and actually affects real people. Not recording myself getting brands deals. BFFR

Hermes has spent decades and millions of dollars to portray themselves as a very exclusive brand and these influencers treat their products like cheap Temu junk! 🤣🤣🤣
Can these influencers even get an Hermes bag? A birkin? Hermes feels like they're cheapening their brand by sending stuff to random influencers. There's a phenomenon where if you get someone a car and a half empty pack of gummy bears for Christmas it'll devalue the car in their mind. It's almost as if our brain averages them all together. To me it feels like the same thing happens the second I see an influencer that's under Kardashian/Hilton level with an Hermes anything.

I love it when brands send small creators their products because these people need it. E.g. a girl named Andy who got a Google Pixel phone from Google team because she her iPhone 11 wasn’t working well. Or pet creators who get pet stuff. But these excessive pr packages are so disgusting

Google Pixel team and their superfans (me included) go hard about their pixels so it's an obvious layup to hook up an iOS user to the android phone with the GOATed camera. They created a superfan and micro-influencers are more important than a lot of companies realize (speaking as a microinfluencer myself it was an accident I just do QA for a product and they're like hey we like your swag and pizzazz and I'm like cool). @@usnnavywifemisty9889 just be careful about certain products expiring. a lot of it is hogwash as long as ONLY YOU use the product but make sure you spray it with a high percentage alcohol every once in a while (your eyeshadows for example). I only wear makeup when I'm being paid to wear makeup so I'm with you 100% and have some absurdly old makeup in rotation because I'm not throwing it out - a lot of the good stuff I got on super clearance because I ain't paying for all that (but if it's $14 for a big Huda palette that's normally $70 I am buying it because makeup isn't tax deductible and sometimes I do require it!!!). Btw if you do end up buying at Sephora, get the perfume samples. I don't spend money on perfume because their samples last so long (and don't get me started on the cost of perfume)

It’s strange…and really backwards how society has become… The consumption of overpriced products (that are totally unnecessary for daily living but rather luxuries for those who have more than they need?!) is a sad commentary on the lack of connection that exists in so many communities. It’s easy to become jaded when I spend too much time focusing on things that I find disappointing… And while I do love watching this kind of video, I need to remember to refocus my attention and energy on things that help me feel a sense of connection and that I find personally rewarding…perhaps most importantly, finding little things in the midst of the daily grind…an acorn…a bright red leaf…a feather…and to take a moment whenever possible to ask myself what’s most important TO ME. A skincare influencer I follow in Korea posts insta stories nearly every day with HUGE boxes that contain typically an entire line of products in every shade. She and several others that I see also regularly get invited to events where they're getting gifted expensive bags and it's so outrageous.
I was a medical assistant for 20 years and these PR tactics remind me of similar tactics used by Pharmaceutical companies! All I gotta say is these influencers better love it while they can because no everything this "great" lasts forever! In my state Pharmaceutical Reps can't influence doctors anymore and buy them gifts or lunch/dinner for the entire office... ect
I did IT for hospitals (I do IT security for some hospitals now) and I LOVED the pharma reps. Tell me alllll about that medicine while you feed me lunch. I ain't got no power when it comes to this but tell me all about it while I enjoy a free lunch on your dime. They did not like me very much. Didn't ask, don't care. I got free food. They got free practice but the nurses and doctors were avoiding the breakroom At All Costs whenever they showed up so I'm not sure how helpful practicing was.
Yes!!! All the free lunches we used to get back in the day from the pharmaceutical reps. Oh and the free pens….god I loved all those pens. Some of those reps were so damn pushy too, always acting like the providers were their best friends.

Good point. People don’t realize how cheap these “designer” items actually are to make, and usually done unethically. They just slap their brand on them and mark it up 300%+. Most likely Tarte worked out a deal to get the bracelets for cost, prob ($20) then sent them off to influencers knowing they’d fall for it and think it’s a flex.

In the medical field it’s illegal to take incentives from pharmaceutical reps because it influences the clinical staff to push the drug. I think to an extent these influencers should not be incentivized unless they have a contracts. I think celebs and athletes often get PR but we are not aware of it as much. Influencers are sloppy and air it out

I hardly ever wear makeup and this video encourages me to keep away from makeup even more. The makeup world is so saturated in over consumerism and deception it’s honestly annoying. Something we should be buying to make ourselves feel better or to treat ourselves with ends up making us feel exactly the opposite. I’d rather stay away from from makeup brands or buy locally then fall in love with a product and then one day find out how crappy the company really is and how much they do NOT care about you. And one advantage of all this internet/social media circus is that also people who talk about and criticize stuff like this get a platform aka a voice now! There are many channels like Kiki‘s I like to watch and even though I‘m usually a pessimist myself (and I‘m only 28), these videos and especially reading the comments sometimes gives me hope because it shows that we aren’t alone with our struggles and with our thoughts. It might take a long time until things finally change for the better, *really* change, likely longer than you and I will live, but still. It’s hope.

Kosé was not happy their stock of Tarte dropped after the Bora Bora trip and now Tarte is sending out luxury goods to inflate their stock dips- which worked. Tartes stock is climbing back up.
2. *Relying on influencers for marketing can be very risky* even if its an industry standard now.
They get young, fresh influencers who cost more than the previous generations of influencers. The first influencers of the 00s were just happy to get the makeup and shocked by brand trips; now, it's product cost + the cost of luxury goods + bigger more $$ brand trips. The price to afford influencers will only increase just like any other branding, but the issue is influencers have no brand loyalty.
They can easily turn their back on Tarte if they're not appeased or Tarte has a scandal. (for example the only reason Jaclyn Hill was so loyal to Morphe was that they were in bed together financially, but think of everyone else who ditched Morphe so fast).
Also if they have no financial incentive to talk about a brand, they wont. Like Mikaela (idk her spelling lol) saying she won't shout out small businesses anymore because they dont move enough product. Nah it's because she wants to maximize her profits per video by only working paying with brands. Y'all thought her wedding was weird. In China an influencer stopped mid-wedding to sell products on a live stream. I think he made over 3 million?

K but the girl hiding the bracelet for a follower is something I can absolutely get behind. I am that loser that two years ago treated myself to a beautiful black YSL card holder (my first ever designer splurge) then fast forward a couple of weeks later a local dog shelter that I love with all my heart showed us a poor pug who had been so badly abused that one of her eyes had to be removed. They were asking people for donations towards her vet care. My heart absolutely broke for her and I realised I didn’t want my card holder anymore, so I donated it to the charity & they raffled it off & were able to fund her care. My point of my long rant was that the joy I got from seeing her looked after meant so much more to me than a stupid card holder with a gold label on it.

GIRL I was subscribed to BoxyCharm back in 2014-2018 and there was ALWAYS a Tarte eyeshadow pallet in every box and the formula on ALL of them are horrible!! Extremely dry, patchy shadows are just unusable and I don’t reach for a single one. No thank you Tarte!
I used to feel terrible as a part time makeup artist. I work by word of mouth after I started two years ago. I do it for people who exclusively ask for me simply because I don’t want it to turn into a stressful job.
Anyway, I use a lot of drugstore products. I don’t own a single “luxury brand” piece of makeup. And I still get compliments, tips and lots of love from the brides and parties I work with.
It’s a nice reminder that big expensive brands don’t really care about the rest of us!
