  • In this weeks video, we got to the back of the car and changed both the discs and pads. Car has had a brake squeak since we have owned it, there was a lip occurring on the rear discs and plenty of travel on the pedal. All now sorted. #rangerover #rangerovertdv8 #rangeroverl322

    All brakes now changed, and the car is traveling well.

    Ben, you are a legend. I did the rear brakes and rotors today. Had an issue trying to get the right rotor off, but half an hour of vigorous hammer work took care of that. Replaced the pad sensor and all the lights on my dash are gone. Thank you!

      Glad my video’s helped. Have you bedded in the parking brake shoes to the new discs? I did a video on the procedure for that.

    You made that look so easy. Whenever I do brake jobs something always seizes and I end up swearing 😂😂😂

    Ben, after watching your video for the front brakes, I asked for more information on the placement of your floor jack. I couldn’t miss that on this video. Thanks and good job!

      There’s a good section in the manual on where to jack the car up.

    Nice one Ben lucky for you you didn't have to fiddle with the parking brake adjustment lol I have to sort mine out as there is quite a bit of travel on my handbrake and it comes up quite a way before anything happens. This is a little strange as all my discs were replaced not long before I bought my car back in mid December and clearly the shoes were adjusted back to get the discs off and they failed to adjust them back up. Another bloody job to do on it before I get stuck into welding in new rear arches ( and making up new sections of inner arch that has rotted away) I ran a wire wheel over the "slightly rusted" rear arch three days ago and a huge ton of fucking filler fell out much to my disgust! Now I've got to do something coz that's an MOT failure due to it being within 300 mm of a seatbelt mounting! Hey ho! The joys of Land Rover ownwership!

    I am about to do this job in a couple of weeks time (I have ordered an all in one jack and axle stand thing which I am looking forward to trying out!)
    I reckon the reason you'll not find a grove inside the disc hub, to cause issue removing it, is because the handbrake never stops the car in motion, so hardly any shoe will ever be used, let alone hub material.
    I know what you mean about the grove, I guess thats more likely on cars where the shoes are for both the main braking and the handbrake (no seperate disc).
    I have bought some new hand brake shoes, but I bet when I crack it open they still have loads of meat on them. It is hard to imagine how they would ever wear out when the wheels are never moving for them.

    • @Bensgarage

      Could be a stuck caliper, but most likely a warped disc.

  • @ourdiscovery325
    @ourdiscovery325 Год назад +1

    so you only changed the discs and pads etc and didn't touch the electric hand brake. I've been putting off this job on discovery 3 because of that stupid hand brake

      No I left the handbrake, shoes looked good and it worked ok, adjustment felt ok when I put new discs on. Just had to bed the shoes into the new discs, and it worked fine on the CT/MOT.

      I’ve tried countless times with gloves, but I get more of a rash from the gloves than I do from the crap off the car. Certain jobs I put some on and suffer the after effects, like any jobs with oil etc.
