  • SSL 4K E
    The sound of hit records.
The 4K E Plug-in is the definitive software emulation of the 4000E console channel strip, authentically recreating the sound, processing and workflow of one of the most highly regarded and influential music production tools in history. Released in 1979, the 4000E console played a pivotal role in reshaping the way music was made. Its big, punchy sound, advanced processing tools and ground-breaking flexibility meant it quickly became the tool of choice for the world's top studios. The 4000E console dominated the studio landscape through the ‘80s &’90s and became the sonic signature of the era's most iconic albums and tracks, with many producers and engineers considering the console a major influence on the evolution of ‘modern’ production techniques and the sound of contemporary music.

Ok I will demo it and see if I need it. However, all these plugins are flooding the market and the difference between a newer version and a older version are so negligible it's starting to be not worth the upgrade.

I agree, I also have the SSL UC1, UF8 and UF1 controllers and saw the discount on the new 4K E. Im not entirely convinced that it will much further improve the quality Im already able to get. Especially owning a lot of UADs plugins including the Pulteq EQs which are phenomenal and adding a ton of character on anything. I do like the 4K E, its not as clean as the Channelstrip 2 and not as coloured as the 4K B so if you need something in between this would be perfect.

I agree, as much as I love SSL and have the complete setup, I just do not feel this is much of an upgrade, especially since I can dial in those extras with either FabFilter Saturn 2, my hardware gear or my UAD plugins. With UAD you can put the 1176 in the non-compressor mode and get saturation or use their Pultec EQs. Even at $100 I just cannot justify it. For $29 or below? Sure

Originally, when the UC1 came out, they promised us more plug-ins.. and alluded that those would be included..
Now they act like they're doing us a favor and giving us a discount and asking for $100 so that my hardware controller can control now only three plug-ins?
    That's crazy !
For the price of the UC1 we should get these for free or at the most 39 or $49
Btw I was late to fab Filter and got into it just a few months after I purchased my
    UC1 about three years ago...
I get so much done just as quick with the fab Filter pro Q3 now ..
    Dynamic EQ
More bands -Side chanin ect everything ..
my workflow with Pro Q3 surprisingly makes me say turning knobs is overrated (when it comes to the UC1)

    • @TheSteveKinney
      @TheSteveKinney 9 месяцев назад +3

IMO - it’s more about the Eq decisions..
When you work on a console and physically grab knobs, you come to different decisions than you would if you use fab filter.
Forced to limited moves and using your ears vs your eyes.
Two different tools that CAN do the same job… but in reality are meant for two different jobs.
      I use both, love both.
Having that hardware controller really makes you have a mini / digital ssl 4K console or at least the same kind of work flow

@@TheSteveKinney yeah, I hear ya I started my career at 1995. I know all the mixing with your eyes stories that goes on today - thats not for me ..
I'm just throwing shit at SSL -
I have all the plug-ins I need and use so I'm not interested in paying more than $50 unless something is absolutely groundbreaking. ..
You could start with the UC 1 and then add Q3 after it to do the difference..
and I have done that, but when I compare mixes where I focus with Q3, they are so much more lively and exciting and Creative ...
Point being is UC1 has a lot of competition, they shouldn't be overcharging for hardware owners And acting like ProTools . ☮️

Not sure why "you shouldn't buy", but I personally love the E channel, It's kind of in between Native channel strip, which is really clean with no harmonics/saturation, and B channel which adds a bit to much character sometimes. This one will probably be my go to for SSL sound

Also, this video didn't show anything informative about the plugin and the title is a joke. You said YOU are not sure if you want to spend money on it. Where is the answer, why anybody shouldn't buy this plugin???
Finally, you mentioned the Slate DIgital free plugin and the fact that they merged with SSL, but you didn't bother to mention that all Slate DIgital and SSL plugins are available with Slate Digital All Pass... You didn't make any proper comparisons here to show detailed differences between these three plugins. They are not the same and I guess some people will find different uses for each one. You just approached it with the mindset of "if you have other/others, don't buy it".
What about people who want to buy one of these. You show nothing here for anybody to make any constructive decision on which one to choose... It's just a clickbait title...pretty poor I'm afraid... I came to see what you think is wrong with the plugin, and I didn't get the answer..

SSL channelstrip 2 is an ssl 9000 strip emulation is newer and it’s clean but the 4k’s (ssl 4000) are older and gritty (you get harmony distortion) good for drums bass or bus processing
