Double Stopping, playing two notes at the same time..... Why is it called double stopping? They're called double stops because you are playing two notes at once. On a technical level, a 'stop' is a term for fretting the strings. You are stopping the vibration of the open string with your left hand.
You 're legend, Witze!!! Judging from the reviews, looks like you will stir some s*it up in the mastering business, and some colleagues of yours may get a little angry at you. I'm excited to see how it will all fold out, and wish you nothing less than a storming success in your venture.
Danger good, okay? This technique is used to enhance bass in processes where headroom is at a premium and the same is also done with in the high end of the audio spectrum but they call it something like an "Exciter". I wish I knew how to properly use them and how they affect other upstream and downstream processes.
The only plugins I've found that aren't stable on Mac are the Plugin Alliance stuff. I've been waiting for months for them to update their plugins to work with Ventura. I wouldn't have updated my operating system if I'd known it was going to be an issue. But I needed to update it for other reasons. So now I'm stuck in a situation where Plugin Alliance stuff is an integral part of my workflow, but it crashes my Logic sessions dozens of times a day. Never had a single problem with any other company though. I use all the major ones -- Waves, UAD, Softtube, Soundtoys, Fab Filter, etc.
As soon as I saw this on the SSL site a few hours ago, I installed it (I have the SSL complete subscription). I'm currently working on a song that did indeed have a weak bass, and although there are other ways to add heft to it, this was easy, focused, and sounds great. It was a fast process too. I'm a recent convert to the SSL ecosystem, as I spent a lot of hours on SSL consoles in the late 80s and early 90s. It's infinitely easier for me to dial in a mix using their stuff, but that's mostly from "muscle memory". I strongly advise anyone with ANY experience in the analog console days to try out the SSL stuff.
This seems like it does a very similar thing as my DBX 510 hardware unit. I basically only use it for kick drums though or sometimes orchestral bass drums for that extra impact.
2:48 The range from the lowest value (1) and the highest value (11) is 10. If the lowest value on the knob was labelled 0, then the highest value on the knob would then be labelled 10. I'm just pointing out, the distance from 1-11 is still a distance of 10.
this is new and not really new...., it seems using the same bass/drive treble/drive coming from their Drumstrip that is a pure beast ! I'm happy to get it for free on the subscription plan but not sure to use it so many
I'm hearing frequencies I've never heard before, using my Genelec 8040B monitors. Usually, I can only hear down to 36hz on these, but I think I heard lower frequencies for a moment, in this video. :P
I use this thing on bass guitar all the time, the secret is to use narrower bands and search out the most musical frequencies to have it gain up, usually the root note of the key the song is in if that’s possible.
I have been using Leapwing Root One to satisfaction - I agree even with discount, Leapwing is mostly +50 bucks. I predict Leapwing is working more surgical....might require a side-by-side test.
A new plugin from a particular vendor doesn't have to be something new or make a revolution. Sometimes you just want that your favorite vendor releases a plugin with that functionality, just because you love this vendor, you are very loyal to it, and maybe you want to buy this vendor bundle only.
@@G.GordonMidicustomer & product support. I stick with RME, for instance, because they keep their promises. If something goes wrong, they make it right. Not so much “loyalty” as it is trusting your hard earned dollars only to those who demonstrate that they’re worth trusting.
right off the bat this almost looks like its great for simply monitoring those super low frequencies to find clashing or tightening some eq in those ranges.
Hey White Sea: Great video, as usual. With the "length control," I can't think of any other sub-harmonic synth that has that kind of control. The original Transient Designer had both "attack and sustain..."?
Oh there asre definitely sub-harm generators with length controls, I think its needs to be a spectral processor in order to do that? To my ears it sounded like it was lengthening the windows, any window with bass content in it would have bass generated through the entirety of the window, and the plugin (something by melda i think?) ran with lag to allow those windows to line up properly while still allowing for the spectral processing. In other words, I don't think you can get this length control unless you are running with a lag, otherwise the bass would sound late, mushy, and flammy.
Not a fan after A/Bing with traditional parallel to hard compression + pultech or even WAVES loAir… The - octave just sounds unnatural - even at low dry/wet levels…
I only have two subscriptions, and SSL is one of them. I went from indifference to love with these guys. They're putting a lot of effort into their plugins.
almost everything plugins you review it, need AutoGain! thanks for the idea wss, im working on it to make AutoGain plugins with some screws, scratch, knob with shadow! and..... yes its free
Ah mate, another great plug review! 😃 I like the fact that it has a high-quality sub-bass generator and the sub-bass harmonic synthesizer thing with 4 configurable bands. The 70s transistor-style drive and grit for adding bite to bass is gonna be good... I guess I am gonna save up for this one.
Could maybe lengthen it by using in parallel, one channel completely wet and the other without the effect and use a transient designer on the completely wet track??? Should have those controls really... maybe a update can include that?
Lo inico que no me gusta esque mi bajo suena como con una octava mas grabe y la original, si hubiera posibilidad de quitarle esa octava grave estuviera genial
I had to stop the video and comment.. At the same point you lost a light I had some stuff fall off my wall. You Farted My Sub...... lol funnie shit... LMAO
And is almost a copy from Waves Vitamin Sonic Enhancer that last for years now. The only difference is, that the Vitamin Sonic Enhancer is not a plugin that you can set and forget. On the buss there is mostly a SSL compressor to glue those tracks.
Agreed, I haven't upgraded despite missing out on some new features because the new GUI is worse. But the reason is probably to make it resemble the physical controller that they sell for it
I find no interest in this plug-in. It is particularly disgusting on the bass. in my humble opinion this approach of adding harmonics and sub bass to the batteries is destructive. your drums will sound fat and the rest of the instruments will be small so you will also inflate the other instruments you will destroy the dynamics of your mix. but you might get a Grammy :)merci pour votre vidéo .
I also rather to know how things work…so…adding harmonics probably can be achieved by adding a tone at a certain frequency? Most probably with an equaliser, bell and very narrow q, later most probably adding “saturation” in form of any amplifier would do the job. Or…how is it working then?
Well I have to say, I foolishly bought this... it's not exactly a snake oil... but it's close. The reality of this plugin despite what they show you to sell it to you is it does a whole lot of what you DON'T want in the low end... which is unfocused smearing of the low frequencies. I set this thing up... got it to what sounded like a punchier kick... exported and compared to previous exports without this plugin... 100% of the time the kick was punchier without this plugin... it's because all that added bass flattens that transient punch of the kicks!!!!! TRUST ME... what you hear in the daw might fool you... but really what this plugin is great at is ruining your mix. $80 down the drain, they don't issue refunds.
Spot on about timing/envelope control. It's not typical for subharmonic generators to do that, but it would be a great way to keep the generated subs tight and not boomy or muddy.
Did you see this review of my new mastering service already?

Fools of April
Seems like an advanced version of Waves RBass.
Those lows really translated even in headphones, that is a dangerous beast. I like.
Yeah, I'm listening through a cheap Apple Earpods (new for less than 20€) and the result is incredible.

The bass guitar sounds like it has octaver effect on it. I would choose iZotope Low End Focus or Acustica Audio Fire The Bass over this.

or just mix in a parallel BP filter around 60hz and distort it a bit
Actually it’s just simple as that
Instant unsub because of bad references. Sandstorm > Never Gonna Give You Up. First Waves, now this.. !!!
Whoah, switching up reference tracks!
I think I liked Sandstorm better, but give me some time, and I'll try my best to adapt.

To Extend the note try create a feedback loop by sending the effect to itself. Preferably through a send channel so you can control the beast.
i think thats the opposite of what he wants, lol... he was saying he wanted it shorter im pretty sure.
@@MantasticHams He said longer. :)

sorry about your studio, i hope you get another one
nice plugin, really can feel it on my sub but they should add pitch tracking and bass it on that :)
Hey White Sea: Great video, as usual. With the "length control," I can't think of any other sub-harmonic synth that has that kind of control. The original Transient Designer had both "attack and sustain..."?
And surely it is only duplicating what it is hearing. 😎

That's sound like dbx 120a without adding lots of high harmonics
damn. first thing I said when I heard it on the kick, was “nice, NICE”
The 11 setting on drive, is probably just a reference, and or homage to 'This Is Spinal Tap'. That's not bad, it is just a bit of fun.
Why don't they just make 10 louder?
@@gnprice This goes to 11

Yeah, but you would if it was playing!

This just occurred to me but with the amount of new plugins you test, I really hope you have a brickwall limiter or equivalent somewhere in that chain
I need subs like that! lol #RIPYourLight
very artificial rumbleeee! Not suitable for 808 fans!! danger danger danger!!
Is it comparable to RootOne by Leapwing Audio? Better/worse?
You changed the plugin sounds without also playing the music mix as well - Guess what - We like to makeup our minds as well
Doing this video without limiter or clipper on the master for safety reasons is a little risky :D
I’d have named this SSL SubDevelopment.
Great demo.
I have this and am trying it now. It’s useful to get some lower frequncies into the mix.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t it introduce low-end issues in a poorly acoustically treated room?

It adds subharmonics! Like RBass from Waves or MaxxBass

Isn’t this similar to rootOne from Leapwing

just fix the transients on your sounds add some nice neve, api or pultec, this is unnecessary.
