- In this video, I walk through and demo the new SSL 4Ke channel strip by Solid State Logic.
The 4KE Plug-in lives up to the legend of the 4000E and imparts all the vibe and rich non-linear analogue character of the original console. 4K E Plug-in is a precise emulation, with modelling down to a component level, including the revered E Series EQ in all its flavours (Black, Brown, Orange), and hyper-realistic emulation of the Jensen T-115K-E transformer found on early 4000E mic pres. The dbx 202 Gold Can fader VCA is also painstakingly modelled, offering multiple layers of harmonic saturation found throughout the circuit design.
Released in 1979, the 4000E console played a pivotal role in reshaping the way music was made, it dominated the studio landscape through the ‘80s & ’90s and became the sonic signature of the era's most iconic albums and tracks. Its big, punchy sound, advanced processing tools and ground-breaking flexibility meant it quickly became the tool of choice for the world's top producers, engineers, and studios.

Nice video Dave. I completely agree once SSL came out with their native channel strips it was a game changer. The other makers that I tried always gave me the meh feeling. Once I got their native channel strips and bus compressor, I uninstalled all of the imitators. The integration of the UF8, UC1, UF1 and 360 is a combination that has no rivals at this point. I have Pro Tools in the background, but 360 is where I mix and it soooo much faster and altered my mixing choices. Your Controller Series really helped me see the light.
Hey, that's great! The SSL plugins along with all their controllers is a wonderful combination for sure. You need a lot of desk space for that sort of setup but if you do a lot of mixing, its worth it
That’s exactly what I’m doing, I also have an Apollo 8x so really like the api sound working in Luna, however the ssl surfaces are not aligned as well with API strips and plugins. There are so many good tools available to us today, it’s very hard to chose
@@NomoreSpam-i7t Facts! With so many plugins available in 2024, it’s almost overwhelming. Narrowing down the essentials has become crucial!
From one RUclips to another I respect what you do on both your channels. Normally people with gear trash plugins. You keep it all the way 100.
If someone think the gear sounds better that’s fine because everyone has their own opinion.
I respect you because you don’t destroy the plug-in to praise the gear and you give highlights of what the plug-in excels at
Thank you so very much! I really appreciate that
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy no problem 💪🏾💪🏾
I love your plugin reviews. Keep it up, dude.
Thank you
Dave I love you. Recieved the Neuman ndh30"s today and I am so glad I took your advice. My mind is blown they are awesome. I tried sound id on them but like you said there is really no need for it. 50% mix did balanced them out just a hear better but i decided not to do put it on because of several reasons. These headphones will be awesome for the times I dont have acces to my speakers or when I have to mix in a space that i dont know. thanks again buddy
Glad you like them! Congrats!!
Bro.Dave, again another excellent video on SSL 4KE.
Appreciate that

@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy I ordered your "MIXING DRUMS MADE EASY" video training today to support your good work in Mixing training & learn mixing drums from you. I have been struggling with mixing Acoustic drums to get a good sound. Your review videos with Mixing tips in RUclips are very useful. Thank you, Bro. David.
1st! - Note: When HQ was turned off, you had "150%" available it looks like. Good stuff as always Dave!
Thanks for that!
Thanks for the SSL vid. Nice to see you using LUNA 😎
More to come!
I have been a big fan of the 4k B and it’s moodier vibe, wasn’t sure on the E until I tried the dynamics section. Instant win
Thanks for watching!
I love the new 4ke Sounds great! Its my new favorite Eq reminds me of my old desk too
Thanks for watching!
The plugin sounds great. Thanks for the tip on the compressor auto gain function. I want that OFF please.
Thanks for watching!
sounds great this plugin and luna
Thanks for watching!
Hey Dave! I have the 4K B and the Regular Channel strip, since the come With UC1. Do you think its worth it to buy this one as well? Having one more clean and one more vintage works great, what would you say is the selling point of also getting this one in addition to the other two? Thanks!
all these channel strips sound a little different. Do you "need" them all? NO. Is it worth buying the 4KE to add to the collection? I think so but again, if you have the other 2 then your only getting a subtle difference with the new one.
hi I saw that to adjust the general volume in the Ssl 4000 you do it from the OUTPUT TRIM. If you lower the volume from the Fader is it the same thing? Thank you
Yes, I said that in the video...go back and watch and listen. :)
wow !!!!! would you suggest this channel strip over the APi strips for Luna users ?
Two completely different sounds. API sounds nothing like and SSL
Hi Dave, I’m interested in building or purchasing a vocal booth, but I’m confused on a couple things I’m hoping you can clarify. I will be the singer and the recording engineer in the following scenarios. If I’m in the booth, how would I control the start, stop, volume, monitoring plugins, etc. if all the equipment is outside of the booth? Also, how would I connect anything from inside the booth to the recording desk, it seems like it would be too far for certain cables to reach, like headphones. Thanks for any insight, your videos are the best!
Depending on your DAW, use their IPAD app to control the dAW from another room.
Thank you! And for headphones, would I just get a long cord attachment?
How about a shoot out with the UAD SSL plugin? People are saying the UAD is superior. 🤔
Some people have asked me to do that video, so I'll get to it soon. My gut tells they are going to be very close but we will see.......
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy the UAD SSL isn't native yet, it's still tied to UA hardware
does the 4ke channel ever go on sale?
Not sure, check their website
Wich 4K E do you like best, SSL, PA or Waves?
SSL Native
Ive been trying to get the ekb but ssl wont put it on sale!
go to Slate Digital and get the complete access pass. All the SSL plugins are free in that package
Cool plugin. I stopped with subscriptions. I just don't mix enough. If I like a plugin enough, I wait for sales and buy it. I have been very partial to Plugin Alliance's stuff. I love the API emulations. The DAW you are using, is that Luna? What happened to Studio One?
Fair enough. I am switching to Luna for a while to change things up. I have been on S1 for 12 years and need a change
Does EQ provide “punch”? Hmmm…
Not sure what you mean but I think it does
yes
Combine this with ssl360 and a touch screen and you've got the next best thing to hands on console like interaction
I would love to try the touch screen idea. Do you actually use one and had success and recommend a specific monitor?
@@HomeRecordingMadeEasy hi Dave, yes I do. I have a non touch monitor above my touch screen. The standard monitor displays the arrangement view. The touch screen is at an angle for ease of use, I display 360 on that monitor. The touch screen is a 27" Acer t272HL. 10 point multi touch. Similar to the Slate Raven without the cost
