A very informative video. I enjoy the same setup and equipment very much and also your valuable tipps. All channel strips from your emulated consoles are wonderful and also the hardware + the controllers. Thank you for your hard work supporting us creative people. All the Best, Jerryl
Appreciate these breakdowns of how to use the SSL plugins. Love to see more. Recently purchased the UC1 and UF1. Forcing myself to exclusively mix with only the SSL channel strips on every track has made the mixing process much faster and my mixes sound great. I do think that if you purchased the hardware..the channel strips should be included free or offered for a deep discount.
I'm glad this 4k E actually has mid bands that can get narrow enough to actually use. Just compared it to the hilariously wide mid bands on Channel strip 2 'E mode.' Glad you finally fixed it; the mid bands on Channel strip 2 were so ridiculously wide they were more like full-band gain knobs.

Unfortunatelly the price for that single plugin is so high (329 euros). Please make it afordable. Black Friday offer wasn't adapted for single plugins. Subscription is not a deal for me, I don't need all plugins and I dont need to use them all the time. Reasonable price could be 50-70 euros and I would be happy to buy it. The same could be for 4K B Channel Strip. With this price you could get more clients and earn more money instead you have all the time 329 euros just for one single plugin. Some days ago I made test of the demo SSL 4K E and compared it with Waves CLA HUB and Waves SSL 4000 EV2. There is a big question to the compressor of SSL 4K E! The compressor by WAves CLA Hub sounds more precise, tight and punchy but Compressor by SSL 4K E...unfortunately disappointed
@@TheSteveKinney As I mentioned in my original message, I don't need all these plugins (I already have some Slate plugins) and I dont want to have subscription and pay every month for the plugins which I will not use. I would buy 2-3 plugins from SSL and that's all. When you use different plugins from different manufactures you can have different colorations instead of to use the plugins only from a one company. That's why this offer of SSL doesnt work for me, I'm sure, I'm not alone who would like to buy better a single plugin
Great video! I've been using the entire SSL ecosystem (UF8, UF1 and UCI) and loving it. Is there a real advantage in engaging HQ on every instance of tge channel strip, or is the payoff not worth it on some types of signals?
Hey Luke, great Vid and love the 4K-E plug-in. Re the last section on FX processing, it would have really helped if you had shown the exact channel setting on the Delay and Reverb Busses in the video. I'm not familiar with using side chains so I could do with some help. If the send of the vocal is to Bus 2 with a delay plug-in on it, do you put the 4K-E plug-in below the delay plug-in and set the side chain feed on the 4K-E to Bus 2?
Hey @cgbfun2496 so in the session I have 2 sends from the vocal channel at 0dB post fader, one to a delay, one to a reverb. On each fx bus, I have the effect (reverb or delay) feeding into 4KE, so the effect is feeding into the channel strip, then being effected by the compressor being triggered by the EXT SC set to the same bus send I have sent to the channel; I.e if I sent Bus 1 to the reverb, then the SC source is Bus 1. Then the post faded level of the effects channel is used to blend the level of the effect into the mix with the dry channel remaining unaffected.
its great they have added this version of the channel strip but no way i am paying more money to get a slight variation of the 2 channels i got included with my uc1... already have a clean version and a coloured version i dont see any compelling reason to buy this. i would barly use it over the other 2 if it was included for free with the hardware
I cannot speak to the quality of this plugin as I have yet to try it, but the channel strip 2 (which is a plugin I'm intimately familiar with) is modeling the K series SSL desk, and this one is modeling the E series desk which offers fundamentally different eq curves and compression characteristics.
Pretty much. So, the hype is that if you buy this plugin, you have the console. But... not really. Did any SSL 4000 E console ever sound this clean? Others say the channel strip 2 is an emulation of the SSL 9000 K, but what is an SSL 9000 K? A clean sounding console. But is it really? Some people think all you need is some "saturation" and that's what makes it sound like the console. In comes the SSL 4KB, and 4KE. But really what makes things sound analog, is yes of course, the EQ and compressor response, but also, channel tolerances, noise, the shape of sounds when sent through the console meaning if the hardware adds a bass bump, or more highs, or extra stereo width when sound is going through it before any EQ or compression is applied, and saturation.
I think you are not far from true, recently I made tests and Channel Strip older version 6.5.3 sounds very similar to this new 4K E, Channels Strip 2 sounds a bit clearer
Really enjoyed the lack of sensationalist fake enthusiasm in this video demonstration, good stuff
Using that lo mid freq band to push guitar through.. super important topic for guitar players to grasp when developing tone. 🔥 👌
Been using it since its release… absolutely phenomenal sounding. Very fun.

SSL brings us another channel strip. This sounds good. Nice work!

that singer. awesome.
Thanks Luke for a great video.

U have adjustable Q - use them ;)

It’s 100 if you have a uc1 till the end of December
That’s also 2 years of subscription of every plugin… of both SSL’s and Slates…
It’s getting harder to ignore these subscriptions as valuable.
@@Harrysound Tha's true, but this controller costs another 650 euros and I prefer to work without controllers
@@RommyLeVent it’s a great controller :p

One of my favourite plugins to date
But the knob layout is not the same as the UC1. How does that work effectively?

Can this plugin be controlled with a 3rd party controller?

I have to agree with you. It should be a free update or at most cost $29
Clearly my guy doesn’t make hits.
Only hits are made with the 4K E series sir. 🤓
Merci...
Too expensive. Its software not hardware for cryin out loud
Totally agree with you.
So you slapped a new skin on the SSL Channel Strip 2 and released it as a new plugin?!

I get total different sound betwen 4kb and first channel strip.

It's a bit too expensive. 300 is too much . Sound is good but the compressor isn't as good like uad for example.
