@@hapytreefriends78 And it's a difference in who they are. Betty kept sacrificing for Simon. Simon always appreciated it; but ultimately the relationship had a one-sided aspect to it that benefitted Simon at cost to Betty. For her; it's an experience. Both as a god, and simply something worthwhile even if better decisions could've been made. For him; he lived the entire one-thousand years as a sad man whose lunacy pined for her everyday beneath the surface. Which in a fashion; Betty also did selfishly for herself; which hurt Simon too. Yet...it was a sacrifice as well. All because of a stupid crown. Sometimes Adventure Time is like that. Bittersweet. Gunther was too; the dinosaur. So is this.

@@HunterEQGtributeit’s not happening. They made a whole new show and it still isn’t happening. This was inevitable. Simon had to lose her, and accept letting her go. He didn’t know he was doing anything wrong or that she loved him that much, but it’s too late.
I mean, i dont know whether to feel relieved or a bit sad, that Betty is technically still in there, a shread of consiousness still able to maintain control (And for a brief moment, she brought that forward to speak to Simon)
@@cdagaming575to be honest, it doesn't seem like Betty is struggling to control herself or anything, or that she's up against some higher entity. It seems like her and golb are really just one being, and since golb is so powerful and everlasting, she simply doesn't have time to give Simon the time of day...eer...or the time of multiverse hehe.
@@cloberlobster2276Yeah, much of Betty is still very much intact it's just slightly altered from her now being one with Golb she's just sorta..embracing the role she now has
One thing to remember for people wondering why she called Simon an experience, Just moments before this, Betty sent Simon 1000 years into the future. Essentially that means Betty is basically like prismo now, Time and space means nothing to her. ther'es no such thing as distance, no such thing as time. Heck even this "memory", it's completely red. That's probably because the one remembering it isn't simon, it's betty, and she's projecting that memory so Simon can join in. At this point, Betty has already most likely relived this memory thousands, hundreds of thousands, maybe even millions of years. Look how many tetrix blocks she has over her head, now remember who she made into one of those blocks, THE LICH. Imagine if every one of those blocks is a lich, that means Betty has been to and probably eaten dozens if not hundreds of universes. This Betty is OLD, MUCH older than Simon. The memories Simon has of her are still fresh, but to her, this is the distant past. For Simon, this is a sorrowful seperation, for Betty, this is just another rerun of a memory she's probably recalled.... countless times. To him, she is everything, because in his world that's all there can be.To her this is just another.... really painful tuesday. Except this time, it came with a present that she's always wanted, always needed. And now, finally, she can be set free.
Golb remembered being summoned to Ooo, and when she was, she was rejoined with the aspect of herself called betty, and was glad, because being betty was a good experience. Golb remembered when the man she loved as betty came to her void, and when he did, she showed him what she wished him to know, both his mistakes, and that she had no regrets, because they were good experiences.
Those blocks existed around golbs head before he was fused with Betty, I think it’s likely each one of those had been a “scholar of golb” and each one is met with the truth that you can’t appease chaos, it doesn’t want anything and so there’s nothing that will satisfy it.
@@zacaritestMost likely because to let go is to move on since not being able to move on usually ends up with a person living with painful memories and stuck in the past, or doing something that ends up harming them/others trying to relive the past as shown by adventure time, for example. Letting go doesn't mean you love that person any less.
@@zacaritest That’s not it. You have to learn to let go in love. That’s not always a sad thing. That means giving the person you love the space and freedom they need to be their own person and make their own choices and mistakes. Sometimes when you let someone go, they leave-like in this case with Betty who cannot stay. Sometimes when you let someone go, they leave and come back-like Finn letting go of Jake in the afterlife, but Jake choosing to go back with Finn to be reincarnated. Sometimes when you let someone go, they choose to stay by your side-like how Marshall gave up everything for Gary, even though they just met, so Gary could live out his dreams. But Gary turned that down and chose to stay by Marshall’s side. It’s not sad. It’s an important lesson to learn. If you hold on too hard to someone you love… You crush them. Your hurt them. Love can be a double-edged sword. And it needs to be wielded safely.
@@percyross7612it's really nice that you could explain it in various examples. I still think Simon can learn something to try get Betty back, just from time to time, not obsessively, since he now can move on and can do whatever he wants. Because even if they needed some time without eachother it doesn't mean Betty should stay as a beyond galaxy level god that doesn't have full control of herself. So it's both Simon living his life, but not completely forgetting about Betty.
What I enjoy about this show the most is its emotional maturity. Most other adult animated series really miss the mark when trying to convey mature storylines, but it took an Adventure Time Spin-Off the show how it's done.
@chora3rd460 I'd argue even bojack falls short, portraying wackiness and complete emotional damage as the norm. But the reality for a lot of people is having a routine and just hating life, like Simon at the beginning. Not being a complete narcissist, like bojack
Betty got the end of the stick but for his transgressions against her, simons retribution came in the formof suffering within a crown that drove him mad for well over afew thousands years. He has paid for his crimes he committed to Betty 1000 fold. But just like real life prison, you don't come out the same person, and neither do the people you left behind. Sometimes the best thing you can do is acknowledge things simply won't be the same again.
@@tsunertoo9149 crimes? Maybe you didn't watch the episode properly but Simon didn't do anything to her. Everything she did was her choice. The writers clearly had an anti-Simon agenda but I saw through it
i think he's also cursed with immortality, even without the crown. considering he should've withered away already and death himself saying that he had that one chance or he'd be around till the sun explodes, so billions of years.
@@orektezHe’s not. Back when Simon, Betty, and Finn were inside golb they started regressing back into their original forms as they were being digested by golb. In short he was just turned younger and is now living a normal human lifespan.
"...but I don't have any regrets." When Betty said this, my vision instantly became blurred from the river of tears that flowed from my eyes. Simon realized that he could've been more thoughtful of her and she gave him this reassurance that there was nothing to forgive or even change because she was happy with the life she had with him. Even in the end, she was still saving Simon somehow. Simon got to live his life after being Ice King for so long and I'm very happy for him.
I…kinda like the fact Betty and Simon didn’t get a happy ending in a sense. This was bittersweet because that’s what life is. We make choices that change our lives and we make mistakes that we wish we could take back and that’s okay. Life isn’t about always wishing you could go back and correct your mistakes, it’s about learning from the mistakes so you don’t make them again. Life isn’t about wallowing in the pain and shut out everyone you love, it’s excepting the pain and using it to push yourself forward. We can’t fix or change things anymore then we can change the sun from setting. We all live, we all get hurt, we love, we gain, we lose and……we always keep going. And hey we may not be able to get a fairytale story book happy ending but, we can at least work towards having a good ending to our lives
What wonderful words. You made me cry, man. I think finn once said that life is good and bad, it's everything. I hope you live a beautiful one. Thank you.
Was it pointless? Sure it may not have been a happy ending but look at how far Simon came despite all the pain and the loss. His journey helped him realize his mistakes and he used those lessons to not only learn to accept what happened but help to save Fiona and cakes world. So no the journey wasn’t pointless it was just complicated
@@designationc6042You sir took the words out of my mouth. Because it’s true, life is not a fairy tale and bringing Betty back would just ruin the scenery many couples face after they lost a loved one.
My grandmother passed away a few weeks ago when this show started and ultimately i feel like it’s shown ways we grieve and how to cope with loss.. life will move on and our loved ones lost would want us to live it to the fullest.
sorry to hear that, hope you can make some time for yourself to grieve properly and then when you feel a bit better move on. lost my gran last year too and I still think of her now
i really love how Golbetty tried it's best to show how much it cares for Simon, while at the same time sounding like a extra terrestrial. It can't feel like a human any more, and i think it tried it's best to demonstrate such to Simon. Even if it knows what Simon wants.
I cannot stress enough how poignant the exchange "You were a wonderful experience" "You were everything" is. For Betty, Simon used to also be everything, but she's no longer Betty, she's GOLB, the god of chaos. For an existence so unfathomably large like that, Simon really is just a happy memory that spans just a few years on a mind that time itself bends around, but it is and it'll always be a happy memory. And for Simon, after he lost Betty his life became the same as being dead, every time he sacrificed himself and everything he ever worked for was for the sake of making things right by Betty, to go down a spiral of selfish selflessness just like her without even noticing it. He never once could accept how much his own life mattered both to him and those that loved him, only Betty mattered. Now they're both free, they can piece together their own shattered lives however they please. EDIT: Apparently the text on the Bus after it switches from airport reads "comet". Betty has become a catalyst comet and is probably reincarnated now.
for some reason this is sad to me but im happy for both of them at the same time, i wish they could’ve talked longer but i think they said all they needed to
I fucking hate misinformation. The one who "decoded" this used total nonsense. But everyone who saw it ran with it and think themselves "special" for "figuring it out"
This is honestly so sad. Betty and Simon love each other to death, meant to be but from Simon losing his sanity and Betty sacrificing herself to save the man she loves. And what Beth made the comment of Simon choosing Casper's choices instead of choosing Nova's. I think it was a Hint that Simon prefer his options and Betty following his options. THEY'RE SO WHOLESOME
It was sadly a hint that the relationship wasn't as perfect and as ideal as everyone including Simon thought it was. Thought not directly Simon led Betty down a pretty self destructive path where she eventually literally gives up everything all for him. That isn't necessarily love, or it can be but it is also 100% obsession. Betty dedicated her life to this one man, and though he was a good man. It wasn't the best decision for her to make, but she made it. And she is done with looking back.
=NOPE,U'VE MISSED THE POINT..........WHAT WOULD VE CHANGE IF SIMON SACRIFICED HIMSELF FOR BETTY INSTEAD? =LIKE.........WHY NOT SIMON WOULD VE SAY THERE LIKE "AHHHH SCREW *EVERYTHING* IF OUR INTERESTS DIFFER SO MUCH, LETS GO TO WENDY'S I'VE HEARD THEY'VE GOT SOMETHING NEW"......GOT IT???...NEUTRAL GROUND....
@@therestinghornet6906 true but from what I see Betty doesnt regret anything and just hope for the best for Simon while its pretty wholesome in a way it still very sad the fact Simon finally realise all this happen because he oblivious to Betty love obsession is as hard as his own love for Betty(for anyone say he doesnt he literally prepare to commit suecide because he got nothing better to do and dont forget he use all of his knowledge to open portal to golb knowing full well he might be die and he did it only to be able talk to his beloved) I wish that Simon can find meaning in his life and not trying open portal to golb again he cheat death once I dont think he gonna be that lucky next time
He loved her just as much as she loved him. It's just that he need help more than she did, and she willingly jumped for the love of her life. She always will. She's happy to see Simon safe and would do anything to keep him that way. I'm sure Simon will let the world freeze if it meant saving Betty. She may have missed her trip, but I'm willing to bet that they made even better memories together after they became official and up until Simon put on the crown.
Finally someone sees it this way. They were both crazy in love for each other yet people act like Simon is some kind of narcissist who let Betty make him the center of her life without reciprocating. She chose to stay with him without any pressure and they were happy. They don't get to spin "I kinda wish I could be by your side all the time" into "she had her own plans, but was ok doing what he wanted too" in the span of two episodes. Now, tragic outcome aside, I genuinely think anyone who calls their pre-war relationship toxic has issues not with them, but just with the concept of love.
THIS. THIS. THIS. Betty never missed her trip. Betty loved Simon. How many days, months, years did Betty and Simon have together before Simon lost his mind to the crown. Wasn't that worth something. Betty jumped through the weird wormwhole because she loved Simon. Betty Sacrificed herself because she loves Simon. Everyone forgets the scene where they are just sitting with each other in the fireflies, the first time they realize they love each other. That was the bus she always wanted to make. Like the OP said, Simon always needed more help and he was blessed to have people who loved him help him along in his life. We'd all be lucky to have a Betty in our life. God I hope there's another chance for Simon and Betty.
It's bittersweet. What's crazy though is that if you think about it, this show managed to show us that though Simon and Betty made mistakes. Their choices actually led to the best outcome for the world. If Simon had gone with Betty, he would not have found the crown. He would have died and vampires would have ruled the world with Marceline as their star. If Betty had left without Simon. She would probably just have been. "The dead one." in his mind, there is no true relation and Simon would have become the Winter King. Their love was never going to result in everlasting happiness for them... But it did save the world in more ways than one.
That legit clicked everything for me. All their choices lead to the Ooo that it is, while all the other branched out timeline multiverses presented to us in the show were direct consequences of their choices.
i might be confused or something due to the lack of information from the og series cuz i wasn't watching it chronologically but there is that one moment of backstory where Simon is wearing crown on the street and shooting with ice powers aiming at the sky, and betty and he's also shouting something like"where are you betty, my princess" and she is like running away, when does that happen on the timeline?
@@highward5292 Ooooh, all the way back when Simon put on the crown for the very first time. So yeah basically Simon put on the crown all the way thousands years before the plot of Adventure time. It instantly made him mad and Simon began screaming and shouting while Betty ran, with Simon running after her shooting ice and calling for her. In the next moment though, FUTURE Simon opened a Time Portal with the intention of seeing Betty one last time. Only for Betty to jump through this very time portal to be with future Simon a thousand years into the future, and leaving past Simon who had only just put on the crown for the first time, behind. As it happened though future Simon was dying because the crown had been drained for magic, and by the end of the episode they manage to get the magic back, which meant that future Simon turned back into Ice King immediately and Betty now stuck in the future started on her travel to save Simon from the crown.
She risked everything to bring Simon back from insanity even costing her own life and becoming the golb. Simon was a fool not to realize what he had done until it was too late. But sometimes people learn stuff the hard way.
i love the little details in this scene. like how in this version when simon hugs betty she lands on the same level as him, meanwhile in the real scene she lands on the step below him, implying how they were never on equal footing in the relationship so subtle but so great, despite their flaws they’ll always be my favourite couple in the show besides pb and marcy. i love them
I remember watching the initial scene and thinking it was weird that she was on the lower step. Didn’t think any deeper beyond that. So cool you pointed that out and made the connection. Also that was a good king krule album
As sad as the events of Simon going after the Crown were, it's best to remember that without that journey he never would have found a certain crying orphan child and been the surrogate father she needed during the worst days of her life.
Betty might've fused with Golb for several years now but thinking about how golb is literally an omnipresent being. Golb is chaos itself. It exist in every universe, every dimensions and every timeline. That amount of knowledge alone would destroy everyone's mind. But since betty fused with golb she could handle it, but in exchange she also lost her humanity. For her to say to simon "You were a wonderful experience" She was being literal, her sense of awareness and understanding is eldritch. Like imagine she could see colors we humans could not see, she could understand concepts humans could never thought of. She could feel everything and anything all the time at the same time. Literally everything everywhere all at once. Simon to her really was just an experience and thats what makes this tragic 😭
@@giuk1987 But even out of all the countless experiences that she's ever had as one with GOLB, her experience with Simon still stands very much as a wonderful one and she doesn't regret it at all. Its tragic, but in a way - also wholesome.
What's great is that we saw what would have happened. But that doesn't matter now, they made their choices and Simon still has a life to live, a second chance. And he now finally gets that
@@realplayaf Not necesarily. Betty was the cause of Golb being summoned, noone else. It's more so that several things could have changed for a more positive outcome: 1) Simon could have gotten on the boss, and chose to help Betty in some of her pursuits instead of his own 2) Simon could have found a better way then constantly diverting to the crown (Heck, because of point 1, he may not have ever found the crown) 3) Had Betty stayed in her timeline, they could have actually gotten the proper goodbye they were looking for much sooner, without the latter events occuring
I think thay people saying that Betty is not the same, kinda missed the point. She is herself, she became a god and gain a better perspective of the events in the past. While Simon was a meare experience to a god, she was everything. And that's okay, is a closure, they loved eachother but Simon was naive and selfish, and thats normal; Betty was the tree that gives, she became a stump and has nothing left. They both grew up
"They both grew up" was exactly what I thought. Betty is both not the same AND the same person, in the sense that you as a child and you as an adult are the same, but different people. Simon is to her is what a childhood dream is to all of us, a beloved memory that we will always look fondly on while also knowing we have no place or belonging in that world anymore. As she said, he was a wonderful experience- it may have been short, but there is emphasis on the wonderful.
@@cheeseplate7844No, she turned into an eldritch being. That’s why her “wonderful experience” contrasts heavily with his “you were everything”. The sheer difference in consciousness is so astounding, it’s inhumane. Whilst as an adult you may look back to your childhood with a heavy longing, Betty’s scenario isn’t anything alike as she’s become utterly inhumane. And will continue down this path of chaos. It’s the worst ending for her.
1:35 just chills me to the bone for some reason. The silent yet deep droning in the background, the sudden replacement of Betty with Golbetty, everything is just so unsettling
Its insane that after all these years we finally have a proper conclusion to Simon and GolBetty that feels not only profound but also emotionally mature Just wanna thank the team of writers and animators behind this for making such a good episode and also the voice actors. Tom Kenny killed it
Ngl that last scene when Betty looks at the destination sign saying "airport" switching to some incomprehensible runes then suddenly appearing as GolBetty was terrifying
I keep seeing comments about how the sign changing into something that was incomprehensible to both Simon and the audience is the fact that she’s going somewhere he can’t follow her to. A possible afterlife, another world, another universe, who knows? Not us, not Simon, and maybe that’s a way for all of us to move on?
Fun fact it's actually the language of the enchiridion and says comet, which is why we see the red cube and green pyramid turn into an apple with a bow, she has reincarnated after sending simon home, she is at peace
@@leanmeanmarceline5196 Since we see two specific future Land of Ooo residents in episode 8, I am willing to bet that Simon and her get to reincarnate since Marcalene and Bonnabel have each other for support. Simon can be comfortable living his life until it's end with the good people he surrounds himself with as Simon. Distant Lands showed us how death works along with reincarnation after all.
The best part about adventure time is that you dont really feel like it ended, the first ending on the original series teaches you that it really never ends even after someones death, there will be always stories to be told and a life worthliving, even if this is the last bit of AT that we eill ever have, the adventure really never end and there will be always something worth living for
Every moment he wanted to say goodbye got interrupted by either the crown, magic, time shenanigans, all either resulting in one or the other sacrificing thenselves for the other till it culminated into this a final goodbye where they got their feelings out, regrets and thoughts before being able to move on
I really hoped they could've been together somehow - maybe exploring and discovering things together across the universe. It's cruel that she's stuck like this forever - long after Simon dies and nobody speaks her name anymore.
@@AJTheInvisibleGirlRight here when she talks to Simon and stuff shows she still feels and still enjoys the fond memories, but she probably just feels in a way beyond our comprehension, like the whole existing outside of abstract that is space and time
I liked the underlying message of this series, alternate realities based on certain decisions and leading ultimately to Simon figuring out what decision he could’ve made differently
I mean tbh, he did make decent choices given Ooo is the way it is. Had he not gotten the crown, or had Betty not been with him, a bunch of those apocalyptic universes we saw would have happened.
Im glad that betty and simon both got the closure they deserved and accepted the consequences of their choices. It may not be the story book ending they wanted but its a powerful message about accepting the outcome of your decisions while being able to appreciate the past even if things didn't turn out the way you wanted. Its learning to let go and move forward without holding on to the pain of loss. All in all this is the most fitting resolution for the both of them who loved each other so much they almost destroyed themselves. There was no way either of them could have truly be at peace if they didn't know the other was going to be okay and it just goes to show how well this show illustrates how facing the challenges life gives you and meeting them with accountability, acceptance, and learning from and appreciating your past experiences will help you heal
It breaks my heart and melts it back together that even as a part of golb, this instrument of chaos across realms, that Betty can still show humanity and sympathy. “You were a wonderful experience.” Even while part of a god of chaos, she manages to give Simon one last adoring thought.
Everyone always talks about Betty's 'a wonderful experience' but I always cried more at Simon's 'WERE everything.' He understands that he needs to move on now. Betty's not coming back to him, but he's still got a life beyond her to live.
The first thing that came to my mind in this scene was in the “Jerry” episode, where Simon tells his story with Betty to Fiona, and in this exact part she asks him: “Did you get the bus with her?”. And Simon’s instantly said “No? Why would I do that?”. I think That’s interesting to see that they gave us some “foreshadowing” of the story from episode 9 and how Simon, besides loving Betty so much, didn’t thought that much about her and her life
It's not that. It's more of "Why would I just randomly tag along on her trip without packing any bags or buying a ticket?" His main thing was to confess his feelings for her, but he also has a hard time expressing himself.
I think Golb gained something precious when Betty fused with them, and that precious thing triggered change in an immortal being. Golbetty is off to have an adventure of their own somewhere else. Even though we'll never know what that adventure will be like, I just know it'll be a fun one.
The fact that they were doomed no matter what... even if Simon were more considerate and he did indeed never find the crown, he would have died along with Betty when the Mushroom War started, and no one would have been there to raise Marceline aside from vampires. His selfishness ironically doomed his relationship but saved Ooo 😢
He probably still would've found the crown, but he only put it on to make Betty laugh. Maybe in the vampire World he never met Betty and therefore never wore the crown, as we can see he died as a normal human
Not exactly. That's basically the concept of how parallel worlds work. Every choice you make creates alternate 'branches' that can lead to 'endings' that aren't necessarily 'good' or 'bad'. Like you said, if Simon didn't find the crown and went with Betty's choices, there could have been possible worlds where he and Betty die, and Marceline would be raised by Vampires to mirror the alternate world where she became 'The Star'. There also could have been world where he doesn't find the crown, but the Mushroom War never happens and Ooo never exists. Conversely, worlds where Simon DOES find the crown while going with Betty's choices may still end up as twisted as the Winter King's world, or could be a 'happy ending for everyone'. That's why I sort of think Betty said "We made our choices. We could have made better ones. But, I don't have any regrets.". Because she understood that while there could have been 'better' choices that could have resulted in a better 'ending' for them, there was also the chance that things could have been 'worse' for them than how things turned out now.
It kills me that that Simon realized his mistake too late and they couldn’t get their happily ever after. But at the same time, with that comment about the crown, I think we already got to see the timeline where they handled their relationship better…and it was not good.
The hopeless romantic in me is in anguish. Yes I know that it’s healthier for Simon to move on and get therapy, but I would’ve loved for him and Betty to get a happy ending. Especially since now she has to live eternity floating in an endless black void alone. So he’ll just grow old and die to leave Betty alone for eternity? And he’s ok with that? Just wish he could’ve saved her or lived by her side for eternity doing what she wanted.
@@haux522Yea but that’s not an ending either. The Lich worships Golb but Golb is still a god. As Golb, Betty would never truly love Simon and as the Lich Simon would be a force of pure evil. This is literally the best outcome
@@parkerd2919I think the entire point was to show that there really isn't a happy ending to this, and adventure time is known for quite a few dark stories..many characters don't all have it good in the end we are lucky Simon at least got some form of a healthy way forward it's sad yeah but it'd kind of remove the entire impact/consequence of Betty making that wish
They both made sacrifices for love. But their sacrifices gave birth to happier outcomes for Ooo. Simon SAVED Marceline, and his influence shaped the world. Humans survived, vampires disappeared, and he was able to save a hidden universe. Betty not only saved Simon, but also saved the world from Golb’s wrath. I remember when AT ended, I wanted Simon to save Betty and live a happily ever after love story. But this ending was so adult and real. Sometimes happy endings don’t mean the same thing. Simon can now live his life and enjoy his freedom. And Betty’s destiny is just beginning. These two truly made the series wonderful.
I like how this parallels what Betty did in the original series. This time instead of changing the date of her own ticket it’s Simon who let’s her do what she wants. Although in both cases neither really changed the past it’s about acceptance. She already realized how codependent the relationship was years ago and waited for Simon to finally catch up.
Man, this episode revealed so much about Simon. He didn't really "deserve" to be with Betty again due to him just now realizing how much she gave up for him, but then again he didn't deserve to be a crazed old man still thinking of Betty in some way, Ice King or not. I'm glad they went with the most mature and realistic option being for them to both move on with the way things were. They both grew from the time they spent with each other and don't regret any decisions, even if they did make mistakes.
the point the show depicted what was fundamentally wrong with their relationship. It was immature and impulsive from both ends there was a lack of communication and idealizing. The reason the show hits close for adults is the fact that most of us have outgrown immature superficial love like that and know how to build strong foundations romantically. It was clearly stated in the show that betty was in fact "obsessive". Which means she didn't fully engage with Simon as a person neither. Simon found his love from someone who supported him and Betty found it in someone she admired. But it lead to impulsive decisions Notice how fionna went from being immature and wanting the world exactly how she wants it and the through the series she learned to receptive to everyone else because she literally does not live in her own little world. When she visited other peoples worlds and acted impulsively she ended up regretting it. Things go better when you incorporate what others want to do and what you want to do and meet somewhere in the middle. Her world is still normal but there is a blend of magic. cake gets to keep her autonomy. Marsh and pb gets to stay together and so on. Edit: I feel the need to say this both Betty and Simon were full consenting adults and it seemed like Betty was doing a graduate study thing. I'd understand blaming Simon if Betty was significantly younger but she wasn't. Betty should have spoken up and prioritized herself as well and Simon should have made an effort so that Betty know there is room for her to be her own person. But like the lich Simon was so obsessed with his study he lost hold of what was important. But in a way so did Betty .
I feel like if Betty was atleast in her mid twenties and Simon probably was late twenties or early thirties. Simon got his doctorate and I believe if betty was doing an exploration trip she was probably pursuing her Phd. which puts her in the mid twenties age. So a full adult with her frontal lobe developed. And Simon was most lilely just giving a lecture at her school but was not her professor. This is why i feel like the age gap probably was not an issue I made that comment because there were some comments blaming simon. Acting as though betty had no autonomy and did not make decisions as a grown woman. infantilizing her and her choices in a way. (I want to make this clear I dont think you are saying this but some other comments were) I think Simon dropped the ball in letting betty have a place in the relationship to express her desires and I feel like betty dropped the ball in not taking initiative in stating what her desires were. There was no communication between the two of them @@rosesweetcharlotte
i would pretty much agree, there was an age gap, but it wasnt like a professor student, it was more like a normal co-worker gap, because he is clearly still fairly young seeing he hasnt greyed (average age for men greying in the US is 30s) so hes at most early-mid thirties, and since shes a PHD student and the average (in the america) being in the 25-33 year old age range, they more than likely were fairly close in age, with the furthest gap being probably betty around her mid 20s and simon in his very early 30s, and the closest they are within like 2-3 years, so I highly doubt their age plays a role in the relationship but rather who they are to each other in a professional sense. do @@MakotoOPT
Dude, Golbetty truly is the most terrifying experience in the show. Her humanity stripped from her as she accepted the duty of basically being Golb, everything that’s happened in Betty’s story is so depressing.
Wow Tom Kenny did a fantastic job as Simon. I hope he has more roles like this in the future. I mean he is the voice of SpongeBob but I really enjoyed his performance as Simon
Im crying when "everything in you" came out with the episode it sounded like it was sung from bettys perspective, but putting the whole show into perspective and the enterity of lyrics, its applicable to simon as well "youve got my heart, my everything is you"
Poor bastard. Spent thousands of years unknowingly pining for Betty, than when he's sane again she has to sacrifice herself to save him, and now she's too detached from the mortal experience and he has to let her go hope Simon can move on and find someone else to be happy with
Betty became a god. Its still her, but different. Shes got insane perspective and vast eldritch knowledge. She probably understood what faults the relationship had in the past and accepted them, but also accepted her own actions and moved on. Shes pretty much ascended past human capacity. But even then, in her new form which is ageless, timeless, limitless, she still remembers Simon. And she still remembers how wonderful their love was. Thats incredible to me that even in godhood, she still holds that experience close to her. Yes its tragic, but now they BOTH can move forward in their new lives knowing it was all real and that it was wonderful.
Simon is such a Chad. Casually talking to a god fused with his lover, he got further in conversation with Golbetty then the lich could ever accomplish.
I don't think it was unhealthy but Simon needed to learn that Betty wouldn't be herself ever again and they couldn't be together like they were before. He learned to cherish what he had and to move on with his life.
In what way did they slowly kill each other? Betty and Simon were always great together. It was at first the ice crown that changed Simon and then later it was the magic man hat that changed Betty. The show has a theme that you can not use magic to change destiny, or else you will suffer consequences. Simon saved Marceline with the ice crown, and the consequence was he changed into the ice king. Betty got brought to the future when they were looking at Simon's memories on Mars because she wanted to save Simon. Betty tried to save Simon with magic Man's power but turned into Mad Betty. Betty tries to work with ice king to undo the curse and summons golb. Finally Betty tries to save Simon and turns into Bolb (Betty golb). They were never meant to be, but they never hurt each other or tore each other down. They had a great relationship and external factors fought against them. You watch too many badly written teen dramas.
I hate how this show *tried* to MAKE it unhealthy, because it's really not. A few bad choices does NOT mean it's an unhealthy relationship. It definitely could have been better, but it's nowhere near what you describe. "Slowly killing each other" is like Jimmy and Kim from Better Call Saul. This? This is 2 people madly in love with each other, whose shortcomings were ignored by the other. And the fact that Simon needed to move on.
@@Crispifordthe3rd515Madly in love is the problem though. This was already somewhat explored near the end of Adventure Time with Betty when she sees her past self. She says along the lines "I given up so much for Simon. I don't know if there's any me left". The show isn't making out Simon out to be a bad guy; he was just in love like Beth said. But you can still be bad for someone without being a bad person. Still this scene is not saying Betty is a victim. Like she said, she made her choices. And she doesn't have any regrets. The point is that if you love someone, you got give them equal attention and position. And if you are madly in love with someone, you need to make time for yourself. Otherwise you can end up like Betty and Simon.
Mature/Responsible outcome in respect to the choices they made but god this hurt like hell. Moving on is tough but at least both got closure and acceptance out of it. More than a lot of people get
I've watched this so many times and just realized. She was so ready to run onto the bus with him and fall deeper into their fantasy situation but Simon held back. Betty was so ready to give him everything all over again.

The episodes were good but i just feel as if they could have had more simon instead of fionna and cake. I get they are the main and titicular characters but still. There should have been atleast 1 or 2 more episodes or maybe extend cheers a bit to like a 44 minute episode exploring more simon and betty. The episode was good just kinda dissapointed not gonna lie.
Would have destroyed the entirety of fionna and cake if most of it was of Simon It's good how they did this they conveyed both journeys of mostly all the memorable characters of adventure time
@pyroticphoenix1846 I get what your saying, but I feel as if simon and betty should've had an episode focused for themselves showing everything betty sacrificed for simon and how much pain she also felt whilst doing so because it feels like some choices simon made sort of made betty upset
This scene left a hole in my heart and i Haven't felt the same since. Its like we were saying goodbye to a long time friend. One that grew up with us. Made us laugh cru and think beyond our mormal comprehension. Adventure time in itself was a wonderful experience and the The fan base that it created is everything that'll keep it alive
Something I think is interesting is how everybody notices that she calls Simon an "Experience" but that's not the word she puts the emphasis on. The word that's important is that it's a WONDERFUL experience. She's not capable of love or even human emotion the way it could be commonly understood anymore, but despite that she still feels that her time with him was wonderful. It's not love, but you can't expect love to have meaning to something like Golb. You could easily say that this is something stronger than just conventional human love, since it transcended space and time to touch the very essence of a creature whose very existence is anathema to life itself. It's a strangely beautiful sentiment. Simon (and this memory in particular) made a deep and profound impact on a literal god.
I don't agree with the idea that betty no longer cares about simon. When she says, "You were in amazing experience," It's because she's viewing their relationship and their love through the eyes of a god. It's not that she doesn't care. She just has a dramatically different perspective on things.
No, I think her perspective is that of a human who’s gone beyond the need for trying to possess someone and trying to be good enough and just letting go and appreciating the experience, something we should all strive for
We saw how dedicated Betty was before she became Golb. Now the reserve happens abd Simon sees her as everything to him. Its deeply poetic and i love this story ❤️
"I will always and forever be ruined by you " I kinda relate to this story very much . I loved someone, my love ran deep and I thought so was my person but with time I felt that their love was seasonal. I stayed even when I was hurt and chose to believe that love was still there. A lie. My life arrived at a set of problems, i tried so hard to keep my life problems away because I didn't want to lose that" one best thing I had ". Love really got the best of me, I pretended to be blind for a while until one stormy day one argument made me realize how much of a fool I'd been. I'd never wish for anyone to hear those words from a person you love , it tore me down. I was left numb. I then decided that it was time to let go, I had been living a lie , my pain of swords no longer pierced me infact I became numb. I tried my best to be the best version for the person I loved but my love was so blinding instead they chose to close their eyes. And the day arrived I chose to stop watering dead plants, because my life needed more of me than anyone else. I needed myself. I made the best decision of my life and worst decision for my heart to walk away first, knowing I was in still in love with this person and would still be in love with this person but they'd never see my love. So I crushed this love with my own hands that had brought them into existence. It broke me , a part of me and I'm still healing. On the other hand, immature me took all the blame just because I didn't wanna hurt the person I loved like they'd destroyed me with their words. I knew my time was up, and it was time to let go. They never took responsibility, I never got a closure. I still wished that they too would taste the feeling of being so much in love and their love never being acknowledged. Some days I regretted meeting this person, but now with years gone by I've realized that it's not love that I regret with this person, I would still love this person again , I would still break my heart again because it was worth it . Because I cane to know what love felt like , what pain felt like , the feeling of being broken but most importantly the feeling of getting up once again after the hurt. Although it took a long time and I'm still not over the pain , but it's happening. But for now my heart lies somewhere like an old book on the library shelves. Knowing that it will one day have a reader who will read all its pages without skipping it, who will smell those old dusty pages and love it. Till then it will lay there with dust collecting with time. This wait this healing will be one day worthwhile. And I don't regret loving someone even though it ended in my life's greatest tragedy. I've moved on. I've stopped blaming the person , I've stopped blaming me. Love happened , together we did built something around love but with time , love only stayed with me.
This series… finally wrapping up it’s only loose end. And what a heart wrenching loose end at that. Glad to see some closure. Broken to see Betty’s humanity torn from her when she ultimately saved Simon and Ooo from her desperate crazed self attempting to save Simon
Did anyone notice the stair, betty stood on? In episode 8, where we saw this scene the first time, betty stood, after the hug, one step lower than Simon, and now, after he realised his mistake, they both stand on the top of the stairs. I don't know, but i think that was intentional.
I like to think this scene was Betty talking to Simon through Golb. Seeing as how Betty’s reaction felt so raw and real, there’s no way that wasn’t Golbetty using magic to project that memory to Simon.
honestly really love this scene, the original series was so wrapped up in the tradgedy of the crown tearing apart these two lovers that their relationship was pretty idealised, only time i can think it wasn't was when magic betty was shown her past self prepping for her trip, but that was right before the finale where major events took over. that's not an issue mind you it worked for adventure time for making ice king and betty investing characters, it did kinda leave betty one note though, but there were so many characters at that point it didn't really matter, but i'm glad they gotten time to explore bettys character more, both through simon reminising to fionna and golbettys interactions. she's almost treating him like a child in a way, trying to tell him clear as day what she means when he has his mind set on sacrificing himself, while clearly still caring about him and protecting him in her care, it's almost errie in a way how her will has overpowered golbs, not giving litch the time of day while having full focus on simon with a much more delicate touch. that's not to say golb is just betty now though, as everyones pointed out she's gained so much perspective that simon was an experience in her infinite life with an outside view of the multiverse, despite both of them being well into adulthood the shared memory really shows them as nieve lovers, and they both accept it as okay and go their seperate ways. really glad they went in this direction, little disapointed we didn't see simon meet back up with marcaline noting she'd be panicked beyond belief at his disapearance and would've been distraught at him becoming iceking again. but the ending was nice, kinda wish it was spread across a longer epilogue but it was nice enough, got the job done. such a great miniseries, big focus on the most emotional side story in the canon and all the side stories coverge into stories about acceptance. just absolutely amazing even if scarab recking havok then getting undone like 3 times at the end was a bit monotonous.
“Were an experience” & “were everything” means a lot … & I don’t think it means they devalue each other. Betty moved on with a new purpose & Simon realised how important Betty was. They might as well both said “u were an experience & everything,” bc it’s true. But this highlights the important revelations. At least, I’ll think this way bc I want 2 believe Betty is Golb. Golb can have emotions & develop.
Their dynamic was so complex and well done. They both had that fog of nostalgia that colored their perceptions of how things were, glorifying each other in the past and never stopping to take a close look at what they meant to each other and how. In retrospect they never got a chance, which makes things all the more tragic. Simon always had the flaw of feeling like he needed to be in control, which is understandable given how scary it is when you're not in control, and that was only amplified when he was the Ice King. Betty taught him a lesson in the end she wasn't able to learn herself until it was too late, that you shouldn't keep sacrificing yourself for others that there's nothing left, even if you love them.
This is proof beyond all doubt that Tom Kenny is one of the greatest voice actors of all time. We know him for his wilder range like SpongeBob, but it's so amazing to hear him in this role in such a different feel.
The woman I love said the same thing to me. Not the exact words but she said she wouldn’t have survived the past few years without me. That she had a wonderful time. We both had our shortcomings and differences but it’s all over now. She was my everything..
For anyone who think this was Simon only imagining this, Simon’s memory of this had very normal, almost nostalgic colors. This scene shows the memory painted with red colors everywhere in the sky. Since everything was red, I think this scene was GOLBetty projecting the memory onto Simon so she could finally talk to him since I’m assuming GOLB as a being can’t physically speak. Additionally, this is most likely why the memory ended up so weird at the end, with the gibberish letters and GOLBetty taking the bus at the end.
this scene, man… I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve been feeling so many different emotions since watching it for the first time. I think a part of me will always wish that Betty and Simon had gotten a more textbook happy ending, but I suppose the message of this moment was “if you love someone, let them go”, right? The fact that they both know they have to move on and live for themselves, rather than each other, while also not regretting their relationship is so endearing to me *cries*. Also I think that GOLBetty is a little bit like Ice King, in that Betty isn’t really the same anymore (I mean, she’s literally an omnipotent goddess of chaos now, that would change anyone), but sometimes you can see traces of her, the same way that traces of Simon could be seen in Ice King. Tbh I hope that we’ll get to see her again, maybe in F&C season two or a different miniseries/spin-off? Cause she’s SO interesting, plus the writers kind of gave her an open ending here.

Yes and that is a kind of sad, but she at least doesn´t have any regrets
Those blocks existed around golbs head before he was fused with Betty, I think it’s likely each one of those had been a “scholar of golb” and each one is met with the truth that you can’t appease chaos, it doesn’t want anything and so there’s nothing that will satisfy it.
>"There is no distance for her"
>"to her this is the distant past"
I DON'T GET IT ANYMORE

“The final act of love, is to let go” which they both truly loved each other .
I think the final step of loving has to go beyond losing someone, don't you think? xd I feel like lately everyone is trying to make love very sad
@@zacaritestMost likely because to let go is to move on since not being able to move on usually ends up with a person living with painful memories and stuck in the past, or doing something that ends up harming them/others trying to relive the past as shown by adventure time, for example.
Letting go doesn't mean you love that person any less.
@@zacaritest
That’s not it.
The "which" is not needed my man
@@percyross7612it's really nice that you could explain it in various examples. I still think Simon can learn something to try get Betty back, just from time to time, not obsessively, since he now can move on and can do whatever he wants. When Betty said this, my vision instantly became blurred from the river of tears that flowed from my eyes.
And hey we may not be able to get a fairytale story book happy ending but, we can at least work towards having a good ending to our lives

i really love how Golbetty tried it's best to show how much it cares for Simon, while at the same time sounding like a extra terrestrial.
This is the best analysis I’ve seen so far 😭
You coining the phrase "selfish selflessness" really hits the nail on the head of Simon's feelings for Betty.
It's also reassuring that Simon is forever immortalized in eternity as an actual god looks back on their memories of him being a wonderful experience.
for some reason this is sad to me but im happy for both of them at the same time, i wish they could’ve talked longer but i think they said all they needed to

All their choices lead to the Ooo that it is, while all the other branched out timeline multiverses presented to us in the show were direct consequences of their choices.
you’re so smart I never thought of it that way
i might be confused or something due to the lack of information from the og series cuz i wasn't watching it chronologically but there is that one moment of backstory where Simon is wearing crown on the street and shooting with ice powers aiming at the sky, and betty and he's also shouting something like"where are you betty, my princess" and she is like running away, when does that happen on the timeline?

It's more so that several things could have changed for a more positive outcome:
1) Simon could have gotten on the boss, and chose to help Betty in some of her pursuits instead of his own
2) Simon could have found a better way then constantly diverting to the crown (Heck, because of point 1, he may not have ever found the crown)
3) Had Betty stayed in her timeline, they could have actually gotten the proper goodbye they were looking for much sooner, without the latter events occuring

I lost my dog right before the final episode. I thought I'd feel like Finn when it finally happened, but Simon showed we should be thankful.
It breaks my heart and melts it back together that even as a part of golb, this instrument of chaos across realms, that Betty can still show humanity and sympathy. “You were a wonderful experience.” Even while part of a god of chaos, she manages to give Simon one last adoring thought.
Still can’t get over how incredibly well written this show is.
"You were a wonderful experience" 😭
I think Golb gained something precious when Betty fused with them, and that precious thing triggered change in an immortal being.
Golbetty is off to have an adventure of their own somewhere else.
Even though we'll never know what that adventure will be like, I just know it'll be a fun one.
Can I say that definitely ripped my heart apart, put it back together and then actually pierce through it and my soul?? *No just me? That’s fair*
Me too, me too
Not for me sadly
this is something i wasn’t ready to see
but it happened
simon ends up understanding now. that is good
The fact that they were doomed no matter what... even if Simon were more considerate and he did indeed never find the crown, he would have died along with Betty when the Mushroom War started, and no one would have been there to raise Marceline aside from vampires.
He wasn't selfish. He was oblivious.
It kills me that that Simon realized his mistake too late and they couldn’t get their happily ever after. But at the same time, with that comment about the crown, I think we already got to see the timeline where they handled their relationship better…and it was not good.
Yeah, for better ir worse, the timeline Simon exists in is one of the better ones because of the questionable choices Simon and Betty made.
without what they went through he would never have found the crown and lived the bomb also the vampires get a demon

This is literally the best outcome

we are lucky Simon at least got some form of a healthy way forward
it's sad yeah but it'd kind of remove the entire impact/consequence of Betty making that wish
Considering all that happened as a result of them falling in love and Betty choosing to go with Simon. Their love saved all of OOO.
This fricking scene turn me into a fricking waterfall NOT TEARS
Man, this episode revealed so much about Simon. He didn't really "deserve" to be with Betty again due to him just now realizing how much she gave up for him, but then again he didn't deserve to be a crazed old man still thinking of Betty in some way, Ice King or not. I'm glad they went with the most mature and realistic option being for them to both move on with the way things were. They both grew from the time they spent with each other and don't regret any decisions, even if they did make mistakes.
Don’t be sad that she’s gone. Be happy Simon and Betty got to love each other.
the point the show depicted what was fundamentally wrong with their relationship. But it lead to impulsive decisions
Notice how fionna went from being immature and wanting the world exactly how she wants it and the through the series she learned to receptive to everyone else because she literally does not live in her own little world.
I do think there was a bit of an age gap, but it never seemed like Simon used that. More that he didn't quite realize how much Betty depended on him
I feel like if Betty was atleast in her mid twenties and Simon probably was late twenties or early thirties. (I want to make this clear I dont think you are saying this but some other comments were)
I think Simon dropped the ball in letting betty have a place in the relationship to express her desires and I feel like betty dropped the ball in not taking initiative in stating what her desires were.

One of the most tragic things about this is that, had things been different, Betty and Simon would've just died in the war.
I’m glad this episode pointed out how unhealthy their relationship was, they were madly in love but they were slowly killing each other
I don't know if unhealthy, but something that is sure is that it sadly wasn't meant to be
I don't think it was unhealthy but Simon needed to learn that Betty wouldn't be herself ever again and they couldn't be together like they were before.
They truly loved each other, but as Beth said it wasn’t on equal footing

I really like this moment of Simon and Betty.
I don't agree with the idea that betty no longer cares about simon. When she says, "You were in amazing experience," It's because she's viewing their relationship and their love through the eyes of a god. It's not that she doesn't care. She just has a dramatically different perspective on things.
No, I think her perspective is that of a human who’s gone beyond the need for trying to possess someone and trying to be good enough and just letting go and appreciating the experience, something we should all strive for
Love how Simon's "Everything" is literal since without Betty we wouldn't have the later seasons
We saw how dedicated Betty was before she became Golb. Now the reserve happens abd Simon sees her as everything to him. Its deeply poetic and i love this story ❤️
(key word) was she was everything to him. He said was meaning past tents they are no longer together. Betty and Simon broke up and move on .
"I will always and forever be ruined by you "
I kinda relate to this story very much .
0:25 this scene with past simon and present simon exchanging dialogues flows so nicely
This is one of the greatest scenes in the whole show.
honestly really love this scene, the original series was so wrapped up in the tradgedy of the crown tearing apart these two lovers that their relationship was pretty idealised, only time i can think it wasn't was when magic betty was shown her past self prepping for her trip, but that was right before the finale where major events took over.
that's not an issue mind you it worked for adventure time for making ice king and betty investing characters, it did kinda leave betty one note though, but there were so many characters at that point it didn't really matter, but i'm glad they gotten time to explore bettys character more, both through simon reminising to fionna and golbettys interactions.
she's almost treating him like a child in a way, trying to tell him clear as day what she means when he has his mind set on sacrificing himself, while clearly still caring about him and protecting him in her care, it's almost errie in a way how her will has overpowered golbs, not giving litch the time of day while having full focus on simon with a much more delicate touch.
that's not to say golb is just betty now though, as everyones pointed out she's gained so much perspective that simon was an experience in her infinite life with an outside view of the multiverse, despite both of them being well into adulthood the shared memory really shows them as nieve lovers, and they both accept it as okay and go their seperate ways.
really glad they went in this direction, little disapointed we didn't see simon meet back up with marcaline noting she'd be panicked beyond belief at his disapearance and would've been distraught at him becoming iceking again. but the ending was nice, kinda wish it was spread across a longer epilogue but it was nice enough, got the job done.
such a great miniseries, big focus on the most emotional side story in the canon and all the side stories coverge into stories about acceptance. just absolutely amazing even if scarab recking havok then getting undone like 3 times at the end was a bit monotonous.
Love isn't sacrificing your lifes work to support someone.
tell your truth sweetie
hell yeah, give enough for yourself, or balance each other's efforts
But it also isn't to not sacrifice anything or to not do your part to support someone, yes, love is sacrifice too, but it has to be from both sides
“I suppose, in the end, the whole of life becomes an act of letting go. But what always hurts the most is not taking a moment to say goodbye.”
You forget the "wonderful".
It's "You were a wonderful experience", not "You were an experience", I say this because the difference is very important
I’m so glad they still love each other
This was so sad but am glad Simon is now living his life as best as he can by finally acknowledging he can never have Betty back.😊😊
For anyone who think this was Simon only imagining this, Simon’s memory of this had very normal, almost nostalgic colors.
Please let this guy have a happy ending
this whole show has been beautiful from start to end. truly the conclusion of Simon's arch
this scene, man… I’m not exaggerating when I say that I’ve been feeling so many different emotions since watching it for the first time.
Betty: You were a wonderful experience.
As BMO's song goes.…"you and I will always be back then." 😢
I bawled my eyes out, I relate to Simon so much...
