Congratulations Tina on getting married! Changing your last name is new and can be unconfortable. Don't worry after you get it changed on your legal documents, it will feel exciting. Anything new can feel weird and be challenging. I have been married 3 times and have the best man ever for me! So happy for you both. This is a new begining in your life and the name change tells others you are happily committed to eachother. It's a whole new world girl, enjoy!

I totally understand where you are coming from. I started a new job right after I got married and changed my name, and so I was meeting all these new people who only knew me by my married name, and I felt like nobody knew my "real" name lol.

I think your feelings are normal! It takes time to get used to the "Mrs" term. Dont let the title define you. You dont have to grow up and you also dont have to be a typical grown up married couple now that youre married. You guys have such fun and positive energy Continue being your cool self! Congratulations! Big changes but titles or terms don't define you. To me it's the other way around - you define them. Busy now but it will be behind you soon so keep having fun! Best wishes for long, healthy and happy lives together! Now for this 76 year old it's back to yard maintenance (weeding season) and hope to be back in the water soon now that they've opened San O back up - yay! Ski season was great this year too!

I just got back from Maui, I’ve been loving Orange Theory, my husband and I go at like 5am every other day. I’m literally obsessed with Brooklyn nine nine 😂 trying to surf more but where I live the water has been still too chilly so hoping it warms up in the next couple weeks 🤙🏽

I’m a bit older than you, however I remember how confused I was about changing my name when I got married..my family name ends with me if I decided to not have children so ultimately what I decided to do was to hyphenate the two names so that my family name didn’t disappear and what ended up happening was I ended up using just my husbands name in everyday life but on my taxes and legally my name is hyphenated. You two could always do that if you weren’t comfortable “losing” your name. I hope this helps also your idea was cute to use Cohen as your middle name. You could always have two middle names if you already had one. I’m so happy to see you both so happy finding the one person who can be your best friend for life. Marriage is great. It’s great to feel secure and loved. Everybody needs love! I’ve been going on nature walks for my exercise lately and I love it!

& yesss, I don’t have a middle name so that’s new too but I’m feeling better about my new last name as time goes by :)
Also about the name change…
I felt like that too for a while. It takes getting used to. But it’s a reminder of the commitment yanno? No longer two but one, whenever the sacrifice of marriage seems hard and the uncomfortably of letting go of a part of yourself to join as husband and wife feels heavier, it serves as a reminder that you are establishing something new and beautiful. Marriage is sacred and though scary at times, beautiful and refining and as long as you keep working and keep fighting for it, you’ll come out and grow as better people and it’s so worth it. You don’t have to change who you are, you get to grow to enhance yourself and better yourself. Sorry this is a book.
Hey girl! So my bday was last Saturday and I had 5 days off to celebrate! Wish I could have celebrated in HI but I was down with Laguna beach this time. I always think of you and job cuz two years ago I drove out there to purchase the job body board from catch surf! Anywho love is blind is soo good! I’d say this current season has been my fave! So much juiciness! Also, don’t worry about the Mrs thing. I think it’s just something you need to get used to, but you most definitely will not lose your playfulness! Congratulations Tina! I got in the situation about 30 years ago. I thought changing name was big thing. I even asked my husband how he would think if he changed his. We ended up to keep our own family name. Yep, we still have different family name. However, now I can say it doesn't matter. You can be happy just being you. Name is kinda same as SSN. Being you is unique identification and no one, even AI, can't take it away.
Aw I love that. I definitely know I’ll one day look back and be like “I was so silly it’s not even a big deal” … it’s just right now that it feels so weird and new.

I’ve been married for a minute and from a guys point of view I’m honored that the woman I love took my last name. When my daughters were little they used to play little games and tea parties and talk about their wedding and what there last name would be. Btw being a grom Is a state of mind you can always be a grom don’t worry. Now you have the best of both worlds. Congratulation’s on being married mrs Tico O’Brien we all love you and JOB

Ok, what you’re saying resonates with me and my relationship with my wife. She went through the exact same thing. So backstory, I’m white, she’s mixed, half white, half Chinese. She comes from a family of three girls, she is the middle child. Sound familiar? Maybe a little? She had a hard time changing her name. Her last name is Moy, and she didn’t want to sacrifice her family’s heritage and family name. It took her 5 years, before she actually made the change to take my name. And she finally did it, because it just made her life easier, for all the reasons you mentioned. But I truly feel, it was the feeling of her sacrificing her independence and individuality that made her feel the way she did.
From my perspective, I was a bit hurt at first, but I came to a place of understanding. I would never want her to sacrifice anything if it was that important to her and her mental wellbeing. The commitment is between the two of you, there are no set rules. It doesn’t change you. It doesn’t change him, it only creates a stronger bond that you already shared. Marriage is just making things Officially official. But just because you’re married, doesn’t mean you got to rush into the head space of it all. Breath girl! However marriage is a level of sacrifice no matter how you slice it, and your feeling it more because it’s “ traditionally” the women who’s expected to change their name. So to put it in perspective for him, how would he feel about taking your name? Instant realization. That’s how I had to approach it, in order to understand what she was going through I had to think differently. And for now. You have no kids. But once you get to that part of the game, it becomes easier, we ourselves never had kids. But they change that bond between you two. You’ll want that unity in everything, including your name. Take your time, it’s all new.
Never grow up. I’m 49. I’m still a kid at heart. That won’t change.
What you’re feeling is normal. It only means you’re independent. And I’m sure he loves that part of you.

I've been a happy wifey myself & goodluck with the name change. ***Can I just say get multiple copies of the marriage license certificates and file them away.***I know what you mean with the "Mrs, wifey, & the terms feeling" because it makes me feel older & I'm a bit older than you, but it didn't change my personality & free spirit. Its been years now & guess what...my personal individuality shines brighter than ever. Your still yourself and remember you create your life, not the stereotypes of society. Name changes are a pain but no regrets, but so much paperwork & sorta took a while (and I'm on top of my stuff!) Btw got your Tina Cohen Easy Rider Trifin surfboard as my new foamie backup. I think you will get more uneasy as time goes on with the name change and being called Mrs., just think it will also be a weird feeling if you have children and them calling you mom and your mom grandma but its a part of life just remember you are blessed.
So as for me just mostly working and come home watch some youtube and twitch, and play some computer games, sleep, and repeat...
but you inspired me to create some of my own content but I am still so nervous about speaking and live videos showing me so for now just game clips but maybe in the future I get some of me on my electric bike I was going to get a go pro but seen you using the insta 360 and am leaning toward a hd version just need to work more and save up too expensive here in California bay area. I do not watch much movies or TV these days but I am excited about the new deadpool movie coming up. I was born on Oahu lived in Kailua and Kaneohe Bay then moved to california and been here since then so its great to see the island from all those years ago, I miss the beaches. Do what feels right to you, not what’s right based on social norms. If there is one thing certain, today’s norms will be different tomorrow. Speak to married women who have kept their last name. My wife did. We’ve been together for 25 years and are best friends, husband and wife, for better or worse and that’s how society sees us and accepts us. Congratulations and best of luck.
The contemporary legal consensus is that changing a bride’s last name to her groom’s last name after marriage is optional and not mandatory. This applies to anyone regardless of gender, and individuals have the freedom to:
• Keep your own name
• Hyphenate your name with your spouse’s name
• Take your spouse’s name
• Create a new name.
So its really up to you and Jamie to decide what you guys want to do and, frankly, no one else's business!

I get the name change thing. I have never been married and I don’t want to ever get married, but if I did I definitely would not change my name. I am big on my lineage and ancestry and Collins is who I am.

Well. I hope your doing well, Tina. OK, u wanna know? I need to vent anyway. Been out of my home since fall, an unexpected remodel...Lived in friends houses, rooms, 5 figure in AirBnBs too. The house is almost done, arguing with the builder, made him rip out tile and do it again. all while doing some hardcore learning at work til 9PM, 1AM and 2AM since Tuesday. Back in my house and it has no showers or toilets. Not fun. So juggling all that while I'm covering for former colleagues who recently got laid off. Had to pass on 2 surf trips last Winter too. FML!!!

We just got back from visiting our ohana on oahu. my niece does Okinawan dance and we went to see a performance at the Okinawan center in waipahu it was cool. It rained most of the time we were in Hawaii oh well when we got married, it was my second marriage and my wife’s first I had no problem with my wife keeping her last name as I saw my first wife have such a problem changing her name, My wife asked me if I wanted to change my name to hers. I didn’t want that either. Even though she has cool Hawaiian last name.

Hey, drop the "labels". "Wife" is just a term and doesn't take away from your persona. Don't let a simple word dictate how you live your life. The world needs less "talking" and more "action". I've noticed recently, it seems like the more someone talks something up, the more it turns out to be B.S. and their words were only trying to justify that it isn't that bad when it really is. If it wasn't so bad, it wouldn't need "words" to convince others. It's "actions" would speak for itself. It's like the word "sorry". It's been used so much without being sincere that it feels like a swear when I hear it. I don't want your "sorry", I want you to show me by your actions. You playing with that shirt (something I'd do and I'm 44) shows that it's not holding you back. It's just the "label" that is. Labels get their legitimacy from it's reputation. The reputation is the product of it's actions. See how it works now?
