    It is SO insane to watch when you compare to the ultra-protected drivers in 2022. Those cars are proper race cars!

      Must have been pretty spectacular to say the least being there live. Back in those days when the racing was so much more decided by the skill of the driver. Now with all the on-board gadgets and assistance pooring in over the drivers headphones it's more a team race. Also what is so damned interesting is to see the beginnings of different developments and regulations which were new at the time but are still in place today and have become standard. Such things as added aero-foils and other technical advancements and or the regulation of having to qualify which is today standard. And the advancements continue at every other F1 race today and is the future for the motor racing circus. Wonderful to see play out before ones very eyes due to these old films.

      @@jordomayor5224 you’re absolutely correct, I don’t bother to watch anymore, in those days there were so many factors coming into play, mechanical unreliability or simply running out of petrol!

    I'd forgotten how quick Brabham was in the BT33 that year. If not for the last-lap problems at Monaco and Brands Hatch, it could have been a very different championship.

    • @brunoullrich5491
      @brunoullrich5491 9 месяцев назад

      Don't think so, Rindt in the 49 was much faster in Monaco than Brabham. Unfortunately for Rindt, the 72 was cumbersome (and finally mortal) more or less all the time when he drove it.

    • @maxcrittenden9109
      @maxcrittenden9109 9 месяцев назад +3

      I didn't say Brabham was faster than Rindt, I said he was faster than I recalled. And if Brabham had won those two races, Rindt would have had 6 fewer points and Ickx would have been champion.

    • @brunoullrich5491
      @brunoullrich5491 9 месяцев назад +1

      Ok my bet, you did not say that Brabham was faster per se, and I confess, as an Austrian, I am biased. Nevertheless, Brand Hatch was luck for Rindt but not Monaco. The "problem" there was the pressure of Rindt the last 10 laps. @@maxcrittenden9109

      @brunoullrich5491 9 месяцев назад +1

      I took the freedom to check on the points. Yes, it would be 39 (Rindt) vs. 40 (Ickx). If Rindt would have been second in Brand Hatch, however, he remains champion (42 vs. 40). Speculations can be interesting, but it is an endless story. For sake of argument, if Stewart did not retire in Monaco (who was up and away, pretty much uncatchable), well, then Brabham would not have been in lead in the first place, etc., etc., etc. Nobody speaks about it, because Stewart retired around lap 30, and not in the last one.@@maxcrittenden9109
