Back in the day when overtaking lapped cars was as much a challenge as for position. Great footage. Niki Lauda was an incredible driver

Indeed. Lauda was absolutely one of the best. Often too overlooked for what he achieved against all the odds stacked against him, at one time or another.

Thanks for uploading this. Brands Hatch was always one of my favourite circuits, in fact the first Grand Prix I ever went to was Brands Hatch 1970 when Jochen Rindt overtook Jack Brabham to win after Brabham ran out of fuel on the last lap.
Does anyone else remember when you could park on the hill behind the pits (where Hans Stuck spins off at the beginning of the race) and honk your horn at the end of the race? It went on for ages because someone always wanted to be the last person to hit the horn, so about 5 seconds after it seemed that the last person hooted, therre would be a "beep" and everyone would start honking their horns again.

Say what you want to about Niki Lauda, as to a casual observer of the sport, it was apparent that his contribution to the sport was nothing less than extraordinary - something that few drivers, whether it was Andretti, Peterson or even Carlos Reutemann was cable of:
      - he came back at Monza 1976 to finish 4th after his near death experience at the Nürburgring.
      - his win at Kyalami in 1977 was convincing enough that it became obvious he was evidently going to be a force recon with… in which he won his 2nd WDC.
      - *most importantly he was like John Surtees, and told Enzo to pound sand after being disrespected by Ferrari from deliberately brining Reutemann on board as a threat to Lauda “not being capable anymore.”
      - Lauda then wasted time with Brabham and eventually called it quits…
      - however Lauda’s services are later on requested by McLaren, of all teams, and give it another go…
      - so what does Lauda do?…..
      - by the third race of 1982, out of having been out of the game for 2 seasons, he not only sets the FL at Long Beach, but wins it as well.
      - not to mention that his win at Brands Hatch later that year was as equally impressive.
      - then there was 1984….
      - the man nearly died from the sport, and when he was young he even heavily gambled on following his passion, despite heavy opposition he faced to barely scrape by.
      - very few drivers can remotely be compared to Niki Lauda, and Reutemann is not one of them.

    • @fedecasares
      @fedecasares 2 года назад +1

@@maxmulsanne7054 You are very wrong, even if you write a lot. Reutemann was as or faster than Lauda and much more perfect in his style, only Reutemann did not have much mental strength, which was not exactly what made him lose the title in 1981 ... perhaps some black hand of Williams for what about Brazil?
Many criticize Reutemann for his "low mood", but the only time he had a real chance to fight a title was with Ferrari and Lotus won it by using the ground effect that was out of regulation. In 1981 Brahbam also had the car out of the regulations but that did not matter to the FIA.
Anyway, Lauda won 2 titles and Reutmann was only runner-up ... nothing to say on that side, but don't you dare say that Reutemann is not up to Lauda because you're wrong from top to bottom.

Lauda didn't make any mistake. It was the Mclaren driver Giacomelli that perhaps unintentionally blocked Lauda, while being lapped by him. It was actually his 4th GP in F1.

    • @fedecasares

blah blah blah blah... why do you make excuses? Lauda took the curve badly, did not hesitate to pass Giacomelli and Lole Reutemann took advantage of Lauda's indecision to pass him as an exalation. No blame for Giacomelli, make no excuses, sir, please.

Fue campeón Andretti porque el Lotus era de otra categoría y porque Peterson lo dejaba ganar por contrato, ya que era por lejos mejor piloto que Andretti.
