    My grey came here in 2008 and never barked. She aways enjoyed a morning run with hurdles. We lost her this June, and it has been very hard for my other 2008 female pup. This December she is finally back to normal eating and coming out to play. She does still run the house looking for Molly. My greyhound was an emergency foster fail and we never knew her exact age. This was a long-term commitment as the pup is now 15 and the grey was grown, having raced and had pups before coming here in 2008. We believed her to be close to 20 years old when we lost her. This makes them by far the longest-lived resident here and missed by all. It is a relief for certain to have everyone eating again

    Go for it adopt a greyhound. I had two, one from Battersea dog and cat home, and one from a retired racing kennel. I never looked back. They are gentle and get on very well with other dogs, I had a cat and a horse as well........no problem, but do check first .....as with other dogs some are not cat friendly. I used to be able to go out and leave my cat in the house with the dogs.
    They are easy to walk and walk beautifully on a lead. They are easy to train, and mine never had any health issues. They are fun loving, love to play, and two walks a day and a run is sufficient exercise, mine could be let off a lead and recall very good. As an added bonus my dogs were very long lived, 18 and 16yrs respectively. I would always recommend a greyhound to any good home, they make fantastic pets.

    I have 3 greyhounds. 12½ ,9 and 0:43 6yr old. I adopted my first Sandy (12½) when my husband died. Great company and I thought he needed a friend. I ended up with my 3rd a few years later. They are all affectionate and love children. I don't live in a house, just a big kennel, cushions everywhere! Wouldn't be without them!

    You have given your two greyhounds their best life. They are so happy and relaxed and healthy. I always feel my Madge is so elegant, something I could never be, and I have been stopped by folk in cars to say how lovely she is. She is a shiny black number, and is very independent, she is not so cuddly, but we are working on that, as I have had her for nearly 4 years now, and she is coming to me in the safe field she has her zoomies in with her best doggy friend Dobby dog. It has taken a long time, but I think she is warming to me - I hope so?! She goes off and sleeps on her bed (double one of course) upstairs, but does come down when she wants her dinner, or to go out. She was a waking skeleton when I got her, and it took 5 months to get her tummy sorted out, but it turned out she was full of worms! She changed overnight once I had sorted that out, in not pooing or peeing in the house. I would be lost without her, as due to my sever anxiety, I only go out of the house to walk her about 4/5 times a day, as although I am very rural here, we have no garden. She has saved me, and I hope that I saved her too, as she was racing when she was discarded, as many greyhounds are of course. Your two look sooo happy and healthy, and I have been following you for 4 years now. Thank you for your lovely videos, and love to you and your wife, and your two beautiful greyhounds, Magnus and Scout. From Jilly & Madge, from West Devon, England. xxx

    You have lovely greyhounds. We have two blacks, Arthur and Maggie. They bark at anyone who walks past our home (even when we're in a holiday cottage for a week). Our first greyhound barked at passer-bys too.
    They love their routine but their nature's are very different - Arthur is sociable and very confident while Maggie is reserved and sometimes anxious (can freeze with this). I adore them both - they are my life ❤❤

    Thanks for posting this. It’s truly awesome. However, we have a VERY vocal greyhound. He Roos, whines, but mostly barks. He barks: because he’s hungry; he needs to go out; he wants us to play; or just because he can. None of our four prior greyhounds barked much.

    Our 3 year old Sid loves walks... he'd go out for 4 hours if he could. I think our grey is broken.
    We also took him to basic obedience training for a 3-4 months. Really helped calm him down while walking to heal and provides tasks to challenge his brain.

    Many blessings to those who rescue these wonderful dogs from the cruel greyhound racing enterprise. Some of these sweet dogs are sold to dog fighting criminals who use these gentle dogs as bait dogs to train the pitbulls to fight. Others go to laboratories. We need to outlaw all of the abusive exploitation of these gentle dogs.

    Beautiful video essay! I've only ever known about Greyhounds from movies and cartoons where they were only ever portrayed as racing dogs.
    I've noticed that there's very little information on this breed in general 😮
    There's a few things that I couldn't find answers to and would be very grateful for any input, you've met so many Greyhounds and would be the best person to ask 🙏
    Are they playful at all? For example, when at home, will the dog be willing to play tug of war, fetch, chase and do human-dog activities together if the human tries to engage first, or would the dog choose sleep over play? 😂 I've only found that it's hard to teach them to fetch 🤔
    It also seems like they are generally hard to train and not eager to please, have you met any greys that enjoy performing more complex than basic tricks? Jumping on command, rolling, crossing paws and such, walking between legs and such.
    I've also read that bloat can be deadly. Is it something you feel like you have to worry about daily? 😮
    I am sorry for bambarding with questions, this is such a uniquely different breed compared to all other dogs I've grown up around, after researching all day I still feel like I have more questions than answers :)

    • @magnusgreyhound
      @magnusgreyhound  5 месяцев назад +1

      Feel free to ask as many questions as you want. In regard to playing. Our pups tend to play by themselves. We have played tug with the pups and a bit of fetch with Magnus, but this is not the norm. They get little spurts were they want to play but is initiated by them. More often they like to sleep unless there is some food involved and they get all excited. Our pups also get excited for walks and car rides. Magnus was easy to train as he had a strong interest in food. I did not teach him any party tricks just things to make his and our lives easier. Magnus is a big greyhound and I did not want him being too much in our small apartment, as he used to jump up a lot at first. Scout learn everything with the exception of stairs by watching Magnus, although he did help a little bit with teaching Scout how to go downstairs. If they have little interest in food then they can be harder to train. I was a complete newbie with no prior dog experience and I was able to train Magnus to a good level. The big thing was repetition.

    • @magnusgreyhound
      @magnusgreyhound  5 месяцев назад +1

      In regard to bloat. I do not give it any thought these days. Read all about it when we first adopted Mags, but we use a raised feeder which works better than them having to crane their necks to eat. Have set meals time and not exercising after eating also helps. We have the walk before breakfast and dinner.

    Don't forget this tip: you can have a group of greyhounds together and there will be no aggression. At least I have never seen it happen and I have been to many greyhound events and parties. If they had a group of German shep., or Rottweilers, etc you would have big fights!
