Only #DogPeople appreciate the utter devastation losing a #dog means. It's absolutely horrendous! I had my 'twins' for 14 (2017) and 17 (2019) years. Knowing the pain (eventually) has so far put me off taking on more. I know I ought to - there are dogs 'out there' that need a loving home, but so far, I've not had the strength to do it. Deepest sympathy, Patrick. I can tell you, it does get a bit easier with time.
You know what Patrick, we lost our boy just a few days ago...same issue renal failure...same name "Dave" the whippet...but boy oh boy...was he a talker.... Such great companions. We count ourselves very lucky to have been blessed with his company..
I adopted a puppy from the shelter I work at and they told me she was a black lab mix. A couple of months down the line and she was still very small and I wasn’t able to put weight on her. So, I had her genetically tested and learned she was predominantly whippet. She’s the best dog I’ve ever had.
I had to rehome my whippets a few months ago. I did not want to give them up but it was necessary due to financial hardship. I don't think I'll ever get over it. They went to lovely home that I chose very carefully. I went to pieces. The whippet is the best dog ever.

Lisa Murdoch I thank you for your sympathy. I miss my Liadan so much...my Kieran is actually a bit better suited to be with a family with children, but Liadan was very content as a bachelor's dog. I raised two litters of pups with her, which is quite a bonding experience. Was like being married to my dog 😁
One Man and His Whippet Dave Bertholini I moved quickly when my financial situation went bad so that I could select homes that best fit my babies. I could have ttied to keep them longer, but it would have been very selfish. I just couldn't risk a shelter surrender. My only regret is that they were separated. They were a breeding pair. My channel has vids of their beautiful pups.
I had a Whippet cross- just lost him in March, his name was Murphy- but he had a Whippet face, with those sweet beautiful brown eyes. And like your Louie, he had 2 speeds, running and sleep. On and off! He had the best temperament of any dog I ever had. Such a sweetie! He would howl with joy when I came home from the market like I had been gone for weeks. Everyone loved him- and he loved them too. I could never get through a walk without at least one person stopping me to say how beautiful and sweet looking he was and he was quite the gentleman, no licking or jumping on them. He left a huge hole in my life and when I am ready for another dog, it will be a Whippet; an angel on 4 legs!

Murphy will always have his own place in your heart. I've always found that getting the next dog after such a loss helps, because I hate glancing over at all the dog-places in the house, and seeing them empty.
@@GreyhoundHomecare That is so true- I let him sleep on my bed near my feet and have had to put a pillow there because I was so used to having him there. It's so strange to not feel him near my feet, not hear him howl with joy when I come back from checking the mailbox and to not see him hiding behind the huge plant leaves in the parlor by the window, while he's on super secret squirrel patrol. One we bought from a breeder. And one from California Shih Tzu Rescue. Fred was about 12 weeks old when we got him. A little over a year later we got Murphy. Our first Fred died at 16 and a half. We think Murphy was about a year or so older than Fred. May have been 18 yo when he died. We were graced with him almost 16 years. Both have been in heaven now for about 4 years now. God knows I still have an open wound in my heart and miss them more than anything. My whole point was that your love for them never goes away. Greg Derrick , Do not know if this will be helpful, hope so. I had to euthanize my beloved MinPin Toy Fox Terrier Mix @ 16 1/2. She was Diabetic on Insulin. We were one. I said never again, but 4 yrs later was asked to adopt an abused rescue Whippet- mix. She has rescued me. Sometimes I still call her Lili'...some days more than others... She is so very loving & affectionate. Love her so. Hope @ the right time for you this happens. 💙

I admit that was so hard. But last year a little lonely ball of fur came into our hearts. An abused little sweet Shih Tzu with scars not only on his body but in his heart. It was a struggle winning his trust. But, something happened. I found myself my new sweetie pie gaining trust in each other and my hurt for my loss easing. I believe Fred and Murphy sent me this little angel. We named him Fuzzy. Call him Fuzzybutt. He's happy and trusting now. And, my grief for my boys has eased. Fuzzy is not a replacement but a new extension added to my heart. Just goes to show how much our past babies still fills our hearts. And allows us to cope. Best wishes my friend. 🙈🙉🙊

We bought a whippet puppy because literally no dog shelter will let you adopt if you have children. I'm sure there are millions like us. We did our absolute best to adopt but with having a three year old, we had no chance. Ridiculous really.

I have an 11 year old whippet, the apple of my eye. To me, there's almost no other dog I could imagine having. He is so sweet, so gentle, so loving. I couldn't have asked for a better dog ever.
I have a whippet - a large, black and white male. He's an amazing, amazing dog. Very gentle, very eager to please, and very attentive. He's also very clean, and, although it may sound odd he is also very "polite" compared with most dogs. But the main characteristic I've observed would be his overall sweetness. He has such a kind, gentle nature with people, and will make eye contact and hold it longer than any dog I have ever known. There's definitely a soul in there.
@@onemanandhiswhippet Rowan (my whippet) is 10, and, over the past year, struggled with weightloss due to either pancreatitis or kidney issues (proteinuria - excess protein in his urine). He went from 21.5 kg (47.5 lbs) to 16.3 kg (36 lbs) over the course of about 4 months, from June to October. I had spent, over that period, about $7,000.00 on his veterinarian bills, doing various scans, ultrasounds, bloodwork, and a new form of non-invasive chemical biopsy which proved inconclusive, initially, but, on a subsequent re-test, came back negative last month. (I had been advised by a veterinary internal medicine specialist to have his spleen removed last autumn, all with no proof that he had any form of cancer prior to this second result.) I decided to seek a second opinion on this, and got in contact with his breeder who's husband is a veterinarian. I sent over his medical records and was advised NOT to have the spleen removed, but to add certain supplements to his diet, including Vitamin E. Over the 4 months since then, Rowan has gained back to 41 lbs, and clearly feels much better, although it initially took a lot of gentle coaxing to get him to eat a lower fat diet and increase his water intake. The takeaway here is that, at least in the U.S., there's a fair amount of profit motive at work in some vet's recommendations (as it is in our outrageously out of control health care system for humans.) The proposed splenectomy would have cost another $7,000.00 and I am unsure if Rowan would still be alive had I not questioned that advice and gone to the breeder's partner for some objective analysis. Rowan now runs up the stairs and is happy and eager to go on his walks again. Have a look at "Horsetooth Whippets" website for lots and lots of interesting whippet pictures. The breeder runs a canine obedience academy, and, as I said, her partner is a veterinarian there in Colorado. Very nice people who love whippets greatly.

We had a whippet for 10 years. The original owner has died so we give him home. Whippet is very intellectual and lovely dog. After he died we couldn't get another dog. Nowadays I'm searching for a whippet who wants a new home. I hope it will be a success. Thank you for the video!

I had a Rough Cit Jack Russel named Ivy. I had just moved to the North Georgia mountains in the USA. Ivy had grown up in hot south Florida so I believe she liked the cooler mountains. She died at 17 years old. About a month later the guy that lives next door to us on the mountain showed me a Whippet that he found on the top of our mountain crying . He gave her to me and that was good. I had that dog shaped hole since Ivy had gone to be with her best buddy USS Ranger dog. Her best friend. A month after Evie showed up a St. Bernard mix showed up at the house. They show up in your life with it is meant to be. Thank you for posting this. Semper FI.

I'm so glad you rescued your dogs! I get nervous whenever I hear people talking about wanting a specific breed that they'll go to a breeder, when you can find dogs of every temperament and age at shelters and breed-specific rescues!
Although a lot of rescue places don't rehome to people with young children or cats. We've been looking to adopt but none of the shelters have any suitable dogs for us. We've been to greyhound places but they are a bit too big and also most can't be rehome with a cat. Leaves us little option than to get a puppy which brings me to this site as been considering a whippet.

I had tears when it got to the part about your heartbreak of losing gorgeous, Ben as know that raw pain well, but at least he had a wonderful life after his rough start and now fabulous, Louis does too. We rescued our Pecas. She is a whippet pointer mix. She was found homeless with puppies and was returned once. I'm never going back. They are the best dog. Whippets are amazing. Thanks for sharing.

You certainly captured the enchanting essence of having a Whippet in your life. I lost my beloved Whippet two years ago to a rare form of cancer and I cried for weeks and had to go to the optometrist as my inside lids were sticking to my eye ball. He was my everything and loved attention, slept with me, followed me everywhere, went in the car lots of time as long as the weather was good. He even visited a nursing home and just knew how to interact with the residents. If they wanted to pet him, he would stand there as long as they wanted (I always said he let me pet him until all his fur came off; he loved being loved upon) then he'd go to the next person and if they withdrew a little, he'd just go to the next person. I have been trying to find another one and would like one like you got -- one that needs to be re-homed. I need whatever a Whippet can give and no other breed will suffice. The sleep a lot and so do I. They make you laugh every day. It's like they are smiling. They are true angels on this earth with heart full of love and and then can go from zero to 60 when outside. You have been so lucky to two of these rare, gorgeous, happy breed in your life. My doctor thinks I need another as I have problems with anxiety and would like a Whippet to calm me. They would make the best therapy dogs ever. I'd like to be able to have one to train for therapy and take it to hospitals and nursing homes. Just looking at them and those big, loving brown eyes would help anyone's mood. I have not been able to find a two to four year old Whippet. And to purchase one is not an option for me. I have love to give and I'm retired. I have tons of photos and one what his fist snow. He stepped out in it and tasted it and the proceeded to run thru it like a maniac and change my serene back yard into what looked like a motor cycle when through it!! He loved it. He had all kinds of clothes for all kinds of weather. He even had a yellow rain coat. When I first used it, he didn't like it and spun around so fast the centrifugal force came flying off! Eventually he realized it kept him dry and he did not like rain, esp. if it got on his face. They are a joy and a gift from God.

Just got a 3 year old retriever/whippet mix from the animal shelter two days ago. Prior to this I have always had very determined fox terrier and spaniel mixes, our last do was a fox hound/spaniel mix. Bentley cowers at a raised voice but is so loving and seems to respond well to a firm but soft voice. Haven't started to walk him yet, prefer to keep a tight leash on him until he's neutered, (probably why he was in the shelter in the first place) but am so glad I found your videos. It's helping me understand the whippet personality and all they have to offer.

We had a whippet called Jack for 12 years and he was the most loving dog. He would stare into your eyes and melt your heart. One of the best breeds out there.

We have a greyhound and a whippet and they are the polar opposite of each other, Ned (Our whippet) was a rescue dog who was apparently nervous around kids (we didn’t see that) and he is playful and snuggly.
Great video! My grandparents, my aunts and my parents always had whippets, and we always had them at home growing up (rescues like yours). I'm not in circumstances where i can own a dog at the moment. Watching videos like this on youtube help me get my whippet fix.

they are able to spring straight UP in the air about 4-6 feet from a stand still Which some of them do when they are very excited to be released on the starting line in lure coursing events. Very elegant, quiet, clean, affectionate, intelligent, athletic. Thank you for sharing!
My dog was 6 mths old when the snow came, two feet deep, and my dog was doing as you say, she was ( pronging) like an antelope and of course my phone was charging.
Rescued my sweet REN from an obnoxious lure courser, who mistreated her and kept her in a small kennel 24/7...After eight years I can honestly say I have never been mom to such a sweet, loyal, hilarious, comforting, smart pup...How blessed I am to share my life in with such a great dog...I have always owned power breeds, German shep, dobies and Rotties...so after I became disabled and my last girl crossed over, I researched what I hoped would be a gentle active couch potato on the small side, and determined a whippet would fit the bill...am so happy I chose this wonderful breed to journey with me in the winter of my life....

My Tomba was an Italian Greyhound but was quite large for an IG at 22 pounds. Very similar to your boys. I call him my once in a lifetime dog. Incredibly smart and sweet and of course slept under the covers. Miss him dearly to this day.

Had to stop watching because I became too emotional and sad. I had six whippets over the years. They are the best dogs you could possibly choose to have. Absolute perfection in every way. I miss them all so much.
@@onemanandhiswhippet Thanks. Maybe. It's still painful. I lost my last one three years ago February 18. She was soon to be 17. She was the favourite of all the neighborhood kids and parents use to comment they had to walk by my house so they could pet Kayle. They just didn't come sweeter.
I still have trouble going to Costco or getting a pizza because of our little rituals. She loved hidden seek around the kitchen island and would always be in for a chase the ball right to the very end of her life.
I had a whippet for13 years and also broke my heart when she passed away, she would follow me every where to the point of sitting out side the toilet when I made a visit. I found her to be one of the most loyal dogs ever, if it wasn’t for my wife I would have got another one straight away but it just upset us that much when she passed that my wife said no she never wanted to go through that again, so thanks for sharing your story it brought back some fantastic memories.

My sister got the black version, but basically the same dog. He can do a magic trick, you make a bacon sandwich, mess around making the cup-a-tea settle down and realise you are just eating a butter sandwich, he can get the bacon out without messing up the sandwich (eyes wide in wonder) how does he do that one then Penn and Teller?
Same story; had dogs as a kid and wanted another after many decades later but not too big or small. I had no idea what breed until a wise dog-owning friend suggested a whippet would suit me. I haven't looked back since what a fabulous companion. If I see something as fun he wants in.
He's also very curious and adaptable, a country dog that loves his days out in the big city as well. Woods, beaches, fields or Picadilly Circus he's up for it.

My dad had a racing Whippet in Yorkshire in the 60's and I always loved this dog. Fast forward many years and now living in Australia we are on Whippet number 6 - we actually had 4 at one stage. Now we travel a lot we only have the one and he is the first one to sleep on our bed every night. He just would not be trained to sleep in the laundry where all of our other dogs had slept and we gave up after 21 sleepless nights. His favourite position is horizontal on the sofa or stretched out between us in bed!

Lovely story. We had a black Labrador who passed away last April at 15 we were all devastated, a little while later in the autumn we had the opportunity to have a recuse Lab cross, it turned out he is a Lab Whippet cross. He's been great, fantastic temperament and amazing with the kids.

I have two whippets -- they are the best! We had greyhounds before, and they were my big babies. They passed away, within four months of one another. Those two days were the worst days of my life. In any event, my one whippet girl is 12 years old, and our new furby is Tippi, and she's 1.5 years old. They have completely different personalities. Lulu (12) even when she was a pup, was very laid-back and mellow. We travel(ed) everywhere with her, she's a great traveler. Tippi is our "wild child" lol. She's a total clown, goofy and boundless energy (until she crashes). She HATES the car and gets car sick. : ( In any event, both your Ben and Louie are lovely -- they have exquisite coloring and markings and so sweet. Thank you for sharing. I've grown up with all sorts of dogs. from mongrels to pedigree rotty's, My partner was never a dog person. she didnt have any growing up and was frankly quite scared of them. she finally broke down and gave me permission to get a dog, we decided on a whippet. and let me tell you we've found a breed for life. they're so sensitive and loving. amazing creatures. they're not the easiest to train. but amazing none the less

Loved reading about your whippet. We have part greyhound, beautiful in every respect. Nature and looks. I fell in love with her on a rescue site. Travelled over two hours to go and get her. It was a done deal before I even left home. She sleeps on our beds, shares herself between us. Lies with her legs out straight like Louie, we had to buy bigger beds to fit her and one of us. It will be a sad day when she passes, but as she’s only four, we’re not thinking about that.

I should add that ours is no longer a skinny dog. She WAS, she'd been hit by a car and taken to the SPCA. It's thought she may have been bred as a pigdog. @@onemanandhiswhippetossibly crossed with a bull terrier or such, although she looks more greyhound than anything. We arrived to where we live now, in a motorhome. We had a dog, the one I thought was the best one we'd ever had, a part pitbull, but he sadly passed, and Heidi is possibly better than him. At least we have no worries about her maybe biting someone, although I'm sure he wouldn't have done, but you know what the attitude is towards pitties. The BEST thing about Heidi is that she doesn't cock her leg, (of course) and there is no smell like there is with a male dog. We haven't had to spray disinfectant for years Enjoy your boy, he's divine
When I was young growing up we had a whippet. She was absolutely beautiful, so sweet natured and patient. My sister and I used to dress her up and wheel her about in our dolls pram (she was the runt of the litter so very small) and so my mum says put make up on her. Bless her. I have so many lovely memories...... yes they make fantastic pets 😊

I adopted a puppy from the shelter I work at and they told me she was a black lab mix. A couple of months down the line and she was still very small and I wasn’t able to put weight on her. So, I had her genetically tested and learned she was predominantly whippet. She’s the best dog I’ve ever had.

I had to rehome my whippets a few months ago. I did not want to give them up but it was necessary due to financial hardship. I don't think I'll ever get over it. They went to lovely home that I chose very carefully. I went to pieces.

Lisa Murdoch I thank you for your sympathy. I miss my Liadan so much...my Kieran is actually a bit better suited to be with a family with children, but Liadan was very content as a bachelor's dog. I raised two litters of pups with her, which is quite a bonding experience. Was like being married to my dog 😁
One Man and His Whippet Dave Bertholini I moved quickly when my financial situation went bad so that I could select homes that best fit my babies. I could have ttied to keep them longer, but it would have been very selfish. I just couldn't risk a shelter surrender. My only regret is that they were separated. They were a breeding pair. My channel has vids of their beautiful pups.
I had a Whippet cross- just lost him in March, his name was Murphy- but he had a Whippet face, with those sweet beautiful brown eyes. And like your Louie, he had 2 speeds, running and sleep. On and off! He had the best temperament of any dog I ever had. Such a sweetie! He would howl with joy when I came home from the market like I had been gone for weeks. Everyone loved him- and he loved them too. I could never get through a walk without at least one person stopping me to say how beautiful and sweet looking he was and he was quite the gentleman, no licking or jumping on them. He left a huge hole in my life and when I am ready for another dog, it will be a Whippet; an angel on 4 legs!

Murphy will always have his own place in your heart. I've always found that getting the next dog after such a loss helps, because I hate glancing over at all the dog-places in the house, and seeing them empty.

It's so strange to not feel him near my feet, not hear him howl with joy when I come back from checking the mailbox and to not see him hiding behind the huge plant leaves in the parlor by the window, while he's on super secret squirrel patrol. One we bought from a breeder. And one from California Shih Tzu Rescue. Fred was about 12 weeks old when we got him. A little over a year later we got Murphy. Our first Fred died at 16 and a half. We think Murphy was about a year or so older than Fred. May have been 18 yo when he died. We were graced with him almost 16 years. Both have been in heaven now for about 4 years now. God knows I still have an open wound in my heart and miss them more than anything. My whole point was that your love for them never goes away. You'll always have that emptiness and longing for them.. thanks for listening to me rambling on and on. Always love your babies. They always love you.

Greg Derrick , Do not know if this will be helpful, hope so. I had to euthanize my beloved MinPin Toy Fox Terrier Mix @ 16 1/2. She was Diabetic on Insulin. We were one. I said never again, but 4 yrs later was asked to adopt an abused rescue Whippet- mix. She has rescued me. Sometimes I still call her Lili'...some days more than others... She is so very loving & affectionate. Love her so. Hope @ the right time for you this happens. 💙
@@colleentam6446 Thanks so much Colleen. I was the same way. Didn't think I could ever have Another enter my heart like my two little guys. But, my wife insisted we look into another rescue. I admit that was so hard. But last year a little lonely ball of fur came into our hearts. An abused little sweet Shih Tzu with scars not only on his body but in his heart.
It was a struggle winning his trust. But, something happened. I found myself my new sweetie pie gaining trust in each other and my hurt for my loss easing. I believe Fred and Murphy sent me this little angel. We named him Fuzzy. Call him Fuzzybutt. He's happy and trusting now. And, my grief for my boys has eased. Fuzzy is not a replacement but a new extension added to my heart. Just goes to show how much our past babies still fills our hearts. And allows us to cope. Best wishes my friend.

We bought a whippet puppy because literally no dog shelter will let you adopt if you have children. I'm sure there are millions like us. We did our absolute best to adopt but with having a three year old, we had no chance. Ridiculous really.

I have an 11 year old whippet, the apple of my eye. To me, there's almost no other dog I could imagine having. He is so sweet, so gentle, so loving. I couldn't have asked for a better dog ever.

I have a whippet - a large, black and white male. He's an amazing, amazing dog. Very gentle, very eager to please, and very attentive. He's also very clean, and, although it may sound odd he is also very "polite" compared with most dogs. But the main characteristic I've observed would be his overall sweetness. He has such a kind, gentle nature with people, and will make eye contact and hold it longer than any dog I have ever known. There's definitely a soul in there.

@@onemanandhiswhippet Rowan (my whippet) is 10, and, over the past year, struggled with weightloss due to either pancreatitis or kidney issues (proteinuria - excess protein in his urine). He went from 21.5 kg (47.5 lbs) to 16.3 kg (36 lbs) over the course of about 4 months, from June to October. I had spent, over that period, about $7,000.00 on his veterinarian bills, doing various scans, ultrasounds, bloodwork, and a new form of non-invasive chemical biopsy which proved inconclusive, initially, but, on a subsequent re-test, came back negative last month. (I had been advised by a veterinary internal medicine specialist to have his spleen removed last autumn, all with no proof that he had any form of cancer prior to this second result.) I decided to seek a second opinion on this, and got in contact with his breeder who's husband is a veterinarian. I sent over his medical records and was advised NOT to have the spleen removed, but to add certain supplements to his diet, including Vitamin E. Over the 4 months since then, Rowan has gained back to 41 lbs, and clearly feels much better, although it initially took a lot of gentle coaxing to get him to eat a lower fat diet and increase his water intake. The takeaway here is that, at least in the U.S., there's a fair amount of profit motive at work in some vet's recommendations (as it is in our outrageously out of control health care system for humans.) The proposed splenectomy would have cost another $7,000.00 and I am unsure if Rowan would still be alive had I not questioned that advice and gone to the breeder's partner for some objective analysis. Rowan now runs up the stairs and is happy and eager to go on his walks again. Have a look at "Horsetooth Whippets" website for lots and lots of interesting whippet pictures. The breeder runs a canine obedience academy, and, as I said, her partner is a veterinarian there in Colorado. Very nice people who love whippets greatly.

We had a whippet for 10 years. The original owner has died so we give him home. Whippet is very intellectual and lovely dog. After he died we couldn't get another dog. Nowadays I'm searching for a whippet who wants a new home. I hope it will be a success. Thank you for the video!

I had a Rough Cit Jack Russel named Ivy. I had just moved to the North Georgia mountains in the USA. Ivy had grown up in hot south Florida so I believe she liked the cooler mountains. She died at 17 years old. About a month later the guy that lives next door to us on the mountain showed me a Whippet that he found on the top of our mountain crying . He gave her to me and that was good. I had that dog shaped hole since Ivy had gone to be with her best buddy USS Ranger dog. Her best friend. A month after Evie showed up a St. Bernard mix showed up at the house. They show up in your life with it is meant to be. Thank you for posting this. Semper FI.

I'm so glad you rescued your dogs! I get nervous whenever I hear people talking about wanting a specific breed that they'll go to a breeder, when you can find dogs of every temperament and age at shelters and breed-specific rescues!

Although a lot of rescue places don't rehome to people with young children or cats. We've been looking to adopt but none of the shelters have any suitable dogs for us. We've been to greyhound places but they are a bit too big and also most can't be rehome with a cat. Leaves us little option than to get a puppy which brings me to this site as been considering a whippet.

What a beautiful video, thanks so much. Whippets and Greyhounds are the best, I have one of each. Really warms the heart to see when these precious animals have found such kind and loving homes. I had tears when it got to the part about your heartbreak of losing gorgeous, Ben as know that raw pain well, but at least he had a wonderful life after his rough start and now fabulous, Louis does too. I look forward to seeing more videos of your adventures together xx

We rescued our Pecas. She is a whippet pointer mix. She was found homeless with puppies and was returned once. I'm never going back. They are the best dog. Whippets are amazing. Thanks for sharing.

You certainly captured the enchanting essence of having a Whippet in your life. I lost my beloved Whippet two years ago to a rare form of cancer and I cried for weeks and had to go to the optometrist as my inside lids were sticking to my eye ball. He was my everything and loved attention, slept with me, followed me everywhere, went in the car lots of time as long as the weather was good. He even visited a nursing home and just knew how to interact with the residents. If they wanted to pet him, he would stand there as long as they wanted (I always said he let me pet him until all his fur came off; he loved being loved upon) then he'd go to the next person and if they withdrew a little, he'd just go to the next person.
I have been trying to find another one and would like one like you got -- one that needs to be re-homed. I need whatever a Whippet can give and no other breed will suffice. The sleep a lot and so do I. They make you laugh every day. It's like they are smiling. They are true angels on this earth with heart full of love and and then can go from zero to 60 when outside. You have been so lucky to two of these rare, gorgeous, happy breed in your life. My doctor thinks I need another as I have problems with anxiety and would like a Whippet to calm me. They would make the best therapy dogs ever. I'd like to be able to have one to train for therapy and take it to hospitals and nursing homes. Just looking at them and those big, loving brown eyes would help anyone's mood.
I have not been able to find a two to four year old Whippet. And to purchase one is not an option for me. I have love to give and I'm retired. I have tons of photos and one what his fist snow. He stepped out in it and tasted it and the proceeded to run thru it like a maniac and change my serene back yard into what looked like a motor cycle when through it!! He loved it.
He had all kinds of clothes for all kinds of weather. He even had a yellow rain coat. When I first used it, he didn't like it and spun around so fast the centrifugal force came flying off! Eventually he realized it kept him dry and he did not like rain, esp. if it got on his face.
They are a joy and a gift from God.

Just got a 3 year old retriever/whippet mix from the animal shelter two days ago. Prior to this I have always had very determined fox terrier and spaniel mixes, our last do was a fox hound/spaniel mix. Bentley cowers at a raised voice but is so loving and seems to respond well to a firm but soft voice. Haven't started to walk him yet, prefer to keep a tight leash on him until he's neutered, (probably why he was in the shelter in the first place) but am so glad I found your videos. It's helping me understand the whippet personality and all they have to offer.

We had a whippet called Jack for 12 years and he was the most loving dog. He would stare into your eyes and melt your heart. One of the best breeds out there.

We have a greyhound and a whippet and they are the polar opposite of each other, Ned (Our whippet) was a rescue dog who was apparently nervous around kids (we didn’t see that) and he is playful and snuggly.

they are able to spring straight UP in the air about 4-6 feet from a stand still Which some of them do when they are very excited to be released on the starting line in lure coursing events. Very elegant, quiet, clean, affectionate, intelligent, athletic. Thank you for sharing!

Rescued my sweet REN from an obnoxious lure courser, who mistreated her and kept her in a small kennel 24/7...After eight years I can honestly say I have never been mom to such a sweet, loyal, hilarious, comforting, smart pup...How blessed I am to share my life in with such a great dog...I have always owned power breeds, German shep, dobies and Rotties...so after I became disabled and my last girl crossed over, I researched what I hoped would be a gentle active couch potato on the small side, and determined a whippet would fit the bill...am so happy I chose this wonderful breed to journey with me in the winter of my life....

My Tomba was an Italian Greyhound but was quite large for an IG at 22 pounds. Very similar to your boys. I call him my once in a lifetime dog. Incredibly smart and sweet and of course slept under the covers. Miss him dearly to this day.

Had to stop watching because I became too emotional and sad. I had six whippets over the years. They are the best dogs you could possibly choose to have. Absolute perfection in every way. I miss them all so much.

@@onemanandhiswhippet Thanks. Maybe. It's still painful. I lost my last one three years ago February 18. She was soon to be 17. She was the favourite of all the neighborhood kids and parents use to comment they had to walk by my house so they could pet Kayle. They just didn't come sweeter.
I still have trouble going to Costco or getting a pizza because of our little rituals. She loved hidden seek around the kitchen island and would always be in for a chase the ball right to the very end of her life.

I had a whippet for13 years and also broke my heart when she passed away, she would follow me every where to the point of sitting out side the toilet when I made a visit. I found her to be one of the most loyal dogs ever, if it wasn’t for my wife I would have got another one straight away but it just upset us that much when she passed that my wife said no she never wanted to go through that again, so thanks for sharing your story it brought back some fantastic memories.

My sister got the black version, but basically the same dog. He can do a magic trick, you make a bacon sandwich, mess around making the cup-a-tea settle down and realise you are just eating a butter sandwich, he can get the bacon out without messing up the sandwich (eyes wide in wonder) how does he do that one then Penn and Teller?

Same story; had dogs as a kid and wanted another after many decades later but not too big or small. I had no idea what breed until a wise dog-owning friend suggested a whippet would suit me. I haven't looked back since what a fabulous companion. If I see something as fun he wants in.

He's also very curious and adaptable, a country dog that loves his days out in the big city as well. Woods, beaches, fields or Picadilly Circus he's up for it.

My dad had a racing Whippet in Yorkshire in the 60's and I always loved this dog. Fast forward many years and now living in Australia we are on Whippet number 6 - we actually had 4 at one stage. Now we travel a lot we only have the one and he is the first one to sleep on our bed every night. He just would not be trained to sleep in the laundry where all of our other dogs had slept and we gave up after 21 sleepless nights. His favourite position is horizontal on the sofa or stretched out between us in bed!

Lovely story. We had a black Labrador who passed away last April at 15 we were all devastated, a little while later in the autumn we had the opportunity to have a recuse Lab cross, it turned out he is a Lab Whippet cross. He's been great, fantastic temperament and amazing with the kids.

I have two whippets -- they are the best! We had greyhounds before, and they were my big babies. They passed away, within four months of one another. Those two days were the worst days of my life. In any event, my one whippet girl is 12 years old, and our new furby is Tippi, and she's 1.5 years old. They have completely different personalities. Lulu (12) even when she was a pup, was very laid-back and mellow. We travel(ed) everywhere with her, she's a great traveler. Tippi is our "wild child" lol. She's a total clown, goofy and boundless energy (until she crashes). She HATES the car and gets car sick. : ( In any event, both your Ben and Louie are lovely -- they have exquisite coloring and markings and so sweet. Thank you for sharing. I like whippets and greyhounds they remind me of the type of dog the ancient Egyptians had. Ben is adorable boy and had a great life with you and Louie is so handsome I love his markings. If I would get another dog it would be a whippit

I've grown up with all sorts of dogs. from mongrels to pedigree rotty's, My partner was never a dog person. she didnt have any growing up and was frankly quite scared of them. she finally broke down and gave me permission to get a dog, we decided on a whippet. and let me tell you we've found a breed for life. they're so sensitive and loving. amazing creatures. they're not the easiest to train. but amazing none the less

Loved reading about your whippet. We have part greyhound, beautiful in every respect. Nature and looks. I fell in love with her on a rescue site. Travelled over two hours to go and get her. It was a done deal before I even left home. She sleeps on our beds, shares herself between us. Lies with her legs out straight like Louie, we had to buy bigger beds to fit her and one of us. It will be a sad day when she passes, but as she’s only four, we’re not thinking about that.

I should add that ours is no longer a skinny dog. She WAS, she'd been hit by a car and taken to the SPCA. It's thought she may have been bred as a pigdog. @@onemanandhiswhippetossibly crossed with a bull terrier or such, although she looks more greyhound than anything. We arrived to where we live now, in a motorhome. We had a dog, the one I thought was the best one we'd ever had, a part pitbull, but he sadly passed, and Heidi is possibly better than him. At least we have no worries about her maybe biting someone, although I'm sure he wouldn't have done, but you know what the attitude is towards pitties.
The BEST thing about Heidi is that she doesn't cock her leg, (of course) and there is no smell like there is with a male dog. We haven't had to spray disinfectant for years

When I was young growing up we had a whippet. She was absolutely beautiful, so sweet natured and patient. My sister and I used to dress her up and wheel her about in our dolls pram (she was the runt of the litter so very small) and so my mum says put make up on her. Bless her. I have so many lovely memories...... yes they make fantastic pets 😊
