This just goes to show that even though the new car is more efficient and more powerful, size does matter. The older cars had a much better power to weight ratio. I know regulations call for this bigger, safer car but the older cars were more fun to watch. The sound was breathtaking, they screamed like a banshee from hell. It was glorious.

Older cars were faster, lighter and louder.
Newer cars have a philosophy of efficiency and reliability. You can't crank up an engine for qualy and use another engine for the race if it breaks down without significant penalty.
Engines are undoubtedly the star of engineering with these new cars. They go further, can go faster and last longer.
The body of new cars is too huge. Granted safety is primary, there has to be a way to make them smaller without reducing driver safety.
