The spark plugs die after like 200m and they just diesel the rest of the track, also they pump so much fuel that if they don't burn it, it'll hydro lock the engine
the top fuel dragster burns about 19 litres of petrol per second? That seems unreal. Would have guessed 0.5 to 2 liters per second. The fuel pumps must be absolutely insane.
I think that's a bit high. What I've read they consume about 87L for a run which includes warmup, burnout, staging to the line and the run itself, and that's the higher number I found. Average number is about 50-60L, which is still a lot.
At full throttle, a top fuel engine consumes about 1.5 gallons, or 5.7 liters, per second. So where some of the stronger muscle cars in the 60s got around 7 miles to the gallon, a top fuel engine makes about 6 gallons to the mile. It's truly insane how powerful the engines are. 2 cars at the starting line are generating more power than an entire field of NASCAR stock cars. They were already generating 7000 hp and reaching over 300 mph in a quarter mile... in 1993. 30 years ago. I've been an avid drag racing fan since I was 3 and... let's just say, I was around when they first went 300 mph.
@@obliedplenty of dragsters (and even funny cars) have tried to take off from the runway that is a drag strip. The rear wing was made to keep the rear tires planted, when accelerating. They make something like 5000 lbs of downforce at top speed. Without it, a) the car would never reach those speeds... too busy spinning the rear tires, and b) if it somehow were to reach those speeds, it would be impossible to keep straight. A front wing was added to help keep the nose of the car on the ground once the rear wings got so big. without it, or if one were to fail, the rear downforce would essentially launch the car into the air. Like I said, it's happened before.
Ya for dragsters outside of power has to be put down in to the ground via 2 wheels (no jet/rocket propulsion), needs to have a strong roll cage, some banned materials, and some fuel regulations, they are essentially unlimited freedom of design.
Wtf are u talking Some group C prototypes have groud effect and supposedly generate enough downforce to run on an upside-down surface The Porsche 956 held the Nürburgring lap record for 35 years😭
Not scary at all, the engines are tuned to last exactly one 1000 ft. run. If they'd have to last a full kilometer my very rough guess is that they'd have to be tuned down from 12.000 BHP to around 5.000 BHP.
@@glamrock-freddy8they are absolutely NOT delicate lmao. They don't even have cooling journals in them to make them more robust and because the nitromethane works as both the fuel and the coolant. They're literally an 8.2 liter solid ass block of billet aluminum with very little carved out of it that might make it weaker. No gasoline powered engine on earth could tolerate half of the power of a top fuel engine without turning into a grenade. Even the massive 30 liter aviation radial engines from things like the F4U Corsair or F6F hellcat "only" made 2600 hp with twin superchargers
It can't handle the banking, trust me, I was going as high as I could: Bicycle tyres, no suspension, extremely long and narrow, the front tyres are way closer than the rear tyres, ground clearance, tyre temps... Did over 15 laps to see where I could go and where I couldn't. This is all it had.

It's all platform based. An F1 car isn't designed for anything more than sharp turns and quick acceleration out of corners. Top Fuel cars are only designed to drop the hammer and send you to another dimension in 3.6 seconds.
I dont believe that the dragster would be taking any curves at over 100kmh, those skinny front tyres would not provide enough grip and would surely push wide every time the speed started ramping up in anything other than a straight line.
I mean, that's not even a corner, the F1 car could do it 4 times faster if it had the power, the fact that it had to slow down for it shows you how bad it is
sure, but i think the lateral grip provided by the dragsters front tyres would not be sufficient for such speeds. I think probably a maximum of 100kmh is more likely.
Well this has been hell of a matchup! Yeah… doesn’t look like the Top Fuel Dragster isn’t much to handle the circuits that much compared to the F1 car, but it sure as sh!t OBLITERATES it on the straights. Other than that it’s been a fun video to watch! 👍 Now I wonder how a Top Fuel Dragster would go up against and LMP/LMH car at Le Mans? Hmm… 🤔
Thank you, glad you liked it buddy! I'll give it a go and if it's close I'll do it a video. Will have to be without chicanes to give the dragster a better chance. Don't if it'll be enough though... Will see!!
Man driver in top fuel drager must be fearless, strong enough to withstand insane g force, and patient and tame while corner while f1 pass you long ago.
Okay so obviously realistically the Topfuel dragster would’ve blown up ages before it finished the second or third race. But since this is a video game, YOU SHOULDVE USED THE BANKS MORE (especially in the half tubes but even in the normal banked corners it could’ve made a big difference)
A Dragster can't use high bankings. (Car's width & length, bicycle front tyres, front and rear track width difference...) Used as much banking as I could.
Very cool video! A similar comparison I've always heard is if a top fuel dragster was idling at the end of turn #4 at the Indy track, and an Indy car came by at its average speed of 220 mph, the dragster launches from a dead stop just as the Indy car passes, the dragster would catch and beat the Indy car to the quarter mile mark. Now THAT'S some acceleration! (~11,000 hp, ~60 gallons/mile, 0 - 300 mph ~3 seconds)😎👍
@@THEWINDTUNNEL Cool! It will be interesting to see if it really plays out like that. A really great video of speed comparison on YT is "funny car vs trophy truck". Cruz Pedregon is in his nitro funny car and another guy is in a desert trophy truck at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway dragstrip. The truck gets a "handicap", and launches first. It's astonishing to see Cruz's chase/rundown and the acceleration difference. Its filmed from several different cameras/perspectives. Fun to watch!😎👍
As well as braking performance with assumed paarchute, as well as fuel usage, grip etc not simulated, the other thing the video has had to assume by default is that the top fuels engine can last for longer than 8 seconds at full throttle. In reality, a top fuels engine all but destroys itself after every run - also the spark plugs get incinerated and so the engine starts dieseling, so going off throttle and coming back on likely won't work either
I don’t think the top fuel dragster would make it much further than a quarter mile, without the motor exploding in a spectacular manner. They’re really only designed to run seconds at a time.
The acceleration in the drag strip was done using real-life telemetry, you can check the times and see how close it is. As for the road courses: 1 The asphalt has nowhere near the grip 2 There's lot's of rubber laid down which helps massively 3 Couldn't afford to overheat the tyres for thevrest of the lap so I had to take it easy at launch
Having seen a dragster try to leave the track a little too quick, this sim is way more forgiving than IRL. Doesn't take much to twist the whole nose and lift inside front wheel and just push straight.
You could make both a cars a lot faster and by a lot I mean 20-30 seconds as neither is designed for this track. You could remove every wing from the F1 car as well as using longer gears. You could also remove some wing from the dragster as well as removing those front bicycle tyres and most importantly, a gearbox with more than a single gear. This thing could easily reach 1000 km/h with 8 gears. The point of this video was to use the cars as they are, without changing them to see how do they stack up against each other
@@THEWINDTUNNEL Did the Draxler make turns at the speed of a car like a Lamborghini? Acceleration of the Draxler requires a lot of fuel and for such a track it needs half a ton. This point must be registered in order to artificially increase the weight of the car in the simulator. Maybe the Draxler was driving 600+, but it certainly wouldn’t be able to take turns like that could 200+. Dragsler's platform is very narrow and he is tall, which is a minus on turns. In reality, F1 turns much faster than Dragsler. With a larger difference than indicated in the test drive. The difference in the same turns on the track between F1 and Laborghini is 100 km per hour. This was tested on the track in Sochi. This is in life. The difference for Draxler should be even greater. In tests with a negative slope of 1.5 degrees, the F1 drove 270 and the Lamba 170. A regular car maxed out at 110.
I love these comparison videos but this one requires too much special pleading. Now would I would like to see if a current F1 and Indy car on this hybrid track.
The Track was Not really fair… it is made of high Speed curves and straights, but an f1-car has its strength in tight corners and the accellererarion at the exit of them (and of course in corner Speed generally, but these were not the Limit for the f1 car. The dragster has its strength on the straights, accelleration and high Speed, Both of them happened quite often.
A Top Fuel dragster in all honesty would not function beyond a 1/4 mile. The engine would seize. Top Fuel dragster engines literally tear themselves apart and melt themselves.
Top fuel cars are direct drive, the tires going from 36 inches tall to 50 inches tall on the high end is the "gear ratio". At 330mph they are still accelerating but much faster and the tires start to blow apart. Theoretical if the tires kept expanding without exploding and a drag strip was an extra 1320feet long the cars would be going nearly 900mph
Top fuel dragsters are technically the fastest automobile on the planet, top fuels can easily beat a fighter jets and passenger airplane from a standing start
This honestly wouldn't work in real life. And modern sims don't simulate drag racing cars very well. A top fuel dragster engine barely makes it a quarter mile. Which is why they only run at a 1000' now. And the current Funny car speed record is 341 mph. The fuel rate on a 23 gallon tank of nitromethane not counting the burnout. Is 4 gallons a second. I have seen a top fuel car in person and it is wild. The blower acutual covers the sound of the super charger. That I have heard make a dyno pull at a open house. I was standing outside the building. And I still had to cover my ears.
They do, they have to do a lot of corrections during the runs, specifically at launch. They also have to do a 180° turn after the races to get back to the paddock

A regular car maxed out at 110.
What is the map you used at the end
Special Stage Route X
Formula 4 vs dragster at Monza?
Can you try Red Bull x2014 vs top fuel, im curious to see what the maximum of f1 limits can do vs top fuel
Just clicked the video. Why TF is that even a question, in fact im even gonna watch this, im just mad this video/question exists
"Why tf is that even a question?" That's the reason behind 90% of my videos sir 😂
The dragster has only one gear?
Correct!
@@THEWINDTUNNEL I thought the drivers had to do some shifting too... so they only have to have reflexes and hold the car straight
7:17 AND HERE COMES HAMILTON!!
who evers driving that dragster needs to learn to stear with there feet...
An insane fact about Drag Tires is that they only last 4 passes before they need to be replaced.
I love these comparison videos but this one requires too much special pleading. Now would I would like to see if a current F1 and Indy car on this hybrid track.
BRO MADE F1 LOOK SLOW
Compared to a top feul Dragster on straights it is
I made the 2 fastest cars on Earth look slow 😏
good stuff more
The Track was Not really fair… it is made of high Speed curves and straights, but an f1-car has its strength in tight corners and the accellererarion at the exit of them (and of course in corner Speed generally, but these were not the Limit for the f1 car. The dragster has its strength on the straights, accelleration and high Speed, Both of them happened quite often.
It's not about being fair, It's about making the most entertaining race possible. Could've used the outside ring. Would that be more fair?
Putting a Top Fuel dragster on a actual race track is like putting a black guy in water it doesn’t work well
A Top Fuel dragster in all honesty would not function beyond a 1/4 mile. The engine would seize. Top Fuel dragster engines literally tear themselves apart and melt themselves.
Ok, that "55" in the helmet is that is Carlos Sainz inside.
Can someone tell me the top speed of the top fuel dragster if it was top speed was limited by areo drag besides its gear ratio
I have no I idea, I will try in the future for sure, but it has to be over 1000 km/h (600 mph)
As a life long drag racing fan im calling bs., there is no way a fueler 8s hanging with F1.
And where did you get the mod.
Only using the 3d model, it's broken: assetto-db.com/car/top_fuel_dragster
2:59 Also what helicopter can do 640 km/h? :D
Only ours 😎
Lol, what's the make?@@THEWINDTUNNEL
Haven't you seen Airwolf? 😉
@@RoderickVoordouw No, I am afraid I have not.
0:55
😂
there were mamy times on the special stage that the dragster couldve been sent much harder
It couldn't use more banking, trust me that's all it's got
@@THEWINDTUNNEL for real?? it looks like you could damn near wall ride the track
Real question, can funny car dragster able to flat out on Nardo ring?
Interesting... will give it a try!
Dragster is the fastest in only straight, but an F1 car is the fastest in a complete circuit
Top fuel dragsters are technically the fastest automobile on the planet, top fuels can easily beat a fighter jets and passenger airplane from a standing start
I have a question, i play GT7 and GT6 and there is Special Stage Route X but it has only straights. I always wanted to see behind the road walls.
This a fan-made layout using those roads
Where did you get the special stage route XX track?
I've looked for it and I think it's no longer available unfortunately. Couldn't find it anywhere :(
Brilliant 😁
no drs for the top fuel dragster? 😉😜
It would literally take off 😂😂
Needa re run it so the top fuel actually uses the banking😂
I can't, because of the narrow front tyres and the ground clearance. Forgot to mention
The stats are so wrong on the TF. They have a weight limit of 500kg, so half this and top speed of ~540km/h.
But the Top Fuel dragster doesn’t have fuel to complete 1/4 the distance, so how is this comparison even imaginable.?
👍Do the same dpecial stage race vs other cars, race cars and road cars.
I'm sure the dragster could use the bank and keep some higher speed. It would seem the physics engine for the game is lacking!
Top fuel dragster: Lurusan elit, menikung sulit
Current F1s can easily hit over 350km/h...plus an F1 deploying DRS everytime is possible...a dragster deploying parachute everytime isn't
I think you meant $170/ gallon, $45/litre.
I wonder if the Roman could beat the F1 car here (maybe scaled down a little so the corners were more difficult for Nevera)
You mean the Rimac Nevera? ruclips.net/video/NG7kpeginQI/видео.html
I feel like the dragster could’ve just went horizontal and not break at all to win
Top fuel dragster vs 1950 f1 car in normal monza
Dragster mod link?
Only using the 3d model, it's broken: assetto-db.com/car/top_fuel_dragster
@@THEWINDTUNNEL The download redirects to an unavailable RaceDepartment mod, pls help
drag racers can actually steer?
Yeah. And there is alot of street legal drag cars
i meant top fuel dragster specifically. sure there are street legal drag cars@@ZURAALTX
They do, they have to do a lot of corrections during the runs, specifically at launch. They also have to do a 180° turn after the races to get back to the paddock
Bono, my engine's gone
Top fuels also have 10000 hp,not 2000.
Wait... do dragsters can turn????
You should use RB19 instead of this 😂
Do you think it could beat it in the drag race? 🤣
