    My S5Max is only half a year old and now there is a already a successor -.- Beside the better obstacle avoidance the new version has it is the same device, though you have to remove things like cables and socks from the floor or he will brutally go rampage on them. I am very satisfied with my "Max". I will feed him some honey loops now to make him happy :-)

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      Yeah, you're not wrong. The S6 Max really is just a more advanced S5 Max. Biggest change is the new obstacle detection. Beyond that, they are very similar.

      Glad to hear you like the S6 already. If you like the S6 you'd definitely approve of the S6 MaxV. It's basically a supercharged version of the S6. The new obstacle detection is particularly impressive.

    How does this compare to the Roomba i7+/S9+ and Shark IQ that you did a review on? Which would you get for a 5,000 sq. ft. home? 90% tile, 10% carpet, single story. I really value the self emptying bin, so it's mostly hands off, but Roborock seems to have the best/fastest navigation? In addition to expedience, I also value how quiet they are, since my whole family is home 24/7.
    I recognize this is a complicated question to answer and probably deserves its own video to compare the options, but really hoping you can point me in a direction, so I don't have to buy 3 different cleaners and test them to decide which to pick. My current options are: Shark IQ, Roborock S5 Max and MAYBE one of the Roombas. Hard to stomach the price, but if it means we don't need cleaning service, maybe I can justify it.
    THANK YOU!! :)

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад +1

      It's a complex question, but you really seal the deal with your home's floor types...get the S6 MaxV, no question.
      In terms of navigation, I would say the S6 MaxV edges out the i7+ and S9+. When you add in obstacle detection, it's just that much better. In terms of carpet cleaning, the i7+ and S9+ beat the S6 MaxV...they just have more suction power and in our tests cleaned carpets better.
      However, since you have 90% tile the mopping feature on the S6 MaxV is going to pay big dividends. For me, that makes it a no brainer for you. It's got a huge water tank, a huge run time (so it can handle your large home), and it's an excellent navigator.
      One last note on the Shark IQ...while it's a good budget friendly bot for self emptying, it really is comparable to the S9+, i7+, or S6 MaxV. It lacks in terms of navigation, cleaning power, and build quality.
      All things considered, I think the S6 MaxV is the clear best choice for your home.

      Indeed, the new obstacle avoidance system is pretty slick. Yesterday I put a cell phone charger in the middle of the floor to see if it would see and avoid it...and it did! Really impressed so far.

  • @meinerid
    @meinerid 3 года назад

    Have had it for 2 months. Quite a nice robot. App is ok but not anything high IT. You can only store 4 rooms. Not loud. Doesn't vacuum carpets very well. Also doesn't mop the floor very properly, leaves marks, so I put it cleaning 2-3 times the same area. Wash cloths is not the best thus the streaks and you need to wash it after every cleaning. Doesn't go under sofas with long hanging covers.
    Compared to ECOVACS DEEBOT OZMO 950 Roborock S6 MaxV is cheaply made. Dustbin one hinge broke after 20 times using, shop doesn't accept to change it.

    Hi, thanks for the great review. I can't decide whether to buy the S6 Maxv as an upgrade to my S5 or the Lenovo T1 Pro auto empty (being sold in Sweden stores here). Any thoughts on which is the best? It would be great to see a review if you have time, tx

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      We've not tested any Lenovo vacuum, so I really cannot say much one way or another on that model.
      As far as the S6 Max vs. S5...I think it would be worth the upgrade.
      The new obstacle detection, improved suction, and larger mopping reservoir are all big upgrades over the S5. S5 is also still relatively new, so you could sell it on offer up or Craigslist and get some money out of it for sure.

    Hello, what would be a better choice a Roborock S6 or a Roomba E5 + Brava 380? I have high pile shag carpet and laminate floor....what would work best?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад +1

      Hrm...that's a hard call for sure. So let's break it down.
      Overall, Roborock S6 is a better robot than the E5. It has better navigation, it's both a vacuum and mop, it has recharge and resume, and it has the ability to digitally map your home.
      However, in terms of raw cleaning performance, the E5 is better. It performed better across the board in our 12 cleaning tests compared to the S6. So what it lacks in more advanced features, it makes up for in terms of cleaning power.
      Comparing the S6's mopping ability to the 380, the 380 is the better cleaner, in my view. Because it is dedicated to just mopping the 380 just does a better job. This isn't to say the S6 is bad by any stretch, but if we're just comparing mopping performance I think the 380 has the edge here.
      Ultimately, it's a pretty close call. I think you'd be hard pressed to go wrong either decision.

      Would you say the S6 MaxV is more or less powerful than the Roborock S5 Max? Which will offer me an overall better cleaning performance?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      @@harrisondurfee2794 More powerful, in fact, it has about 20% more suction according to Roborock. However, that didn't seem to make a substantial difference in our carpet cleaning tests compared to the S5 Max.
      S6 MaxV is going to offer better cleaning performance primarily due to the improved navigation via the obstacle detection AI and front facing cameras.

    How has nobody pointed out the vacuum cannot work on a dark carpet???? It's ridiculous.

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      Has that been documented on this model?
      I find that unlikely given that it only recently launched.
      In any case, I think the whole "robots don't work on dark carpet" is a bit overblown. Yes, there are some models that struggle with dark carpets, but in my experience, it's few and far between.
      We've tested many robots on black carpets and haven't experienced problems with the fast majority.

      It's been YEARS since 'botvacs cannot identify dark carpets' being an applicable fact across the board. now it's down to the individual bots instead.

    Why doesn't roborock offer self-empty base option. Ugh

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад

      Anyone's guess...seems to be a relatively difficult feature to include.
      Roomba has 2 models with self empty, but they are very expensive. Shark has their IQ, but the performance / build quality just isn't amazing. I haven't seen it done beyond those 3 models.
      That said, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were to launch a self empty robot within the next 12 months.

    Recent threats from the Chinese Communist Party towards the UK in regards to offering Hong Kong people residency in the UK and the concern over Huawei using 5G for spying. Should people be concerned that Chinese owned robots could eventually be used to spy on their owners?
    I have read that the Roborocks will often upload data back to China during the night. My S4 only has a LiDAR scanner so presumably only a map of my house could be shared.
    However the new S6 MaxV now also has a camera and perhaps the next generation could also have voice recognition / voice recording. If Huawei is under the control of the Communist Party can we really trust Roborock?

    • @ModernCastle
      @ModernCastle  4 года назад +1

      I'd say all of those are really valid points. In theory, yes, the data from the various sensors and cameras could be sent back to China or whomever.
      I think these privacy issues with Chinese manufactured products are probably likely going to reach a head at some point within the next 1-2 years as the US, UK, and other governments decide how to handle the situation.
      Currently, I'm not as worried about a camera on a vacuum as much as I am say...a security camera or a virtual assistant with a mic.
      At best, the camera on a robot vacuum has a map of my house and sees my floor with the camera.
      Whereas a security camera or virtual assistant has a much better view of me, my family, my house, can pickup all types of private conversations, etc. That's where I am personally currently drawing the line.
