    I just bought the Roborock E4, specifically because it DID NOT have Lidar My previous robot vacuum was a Neato D80. Its Lidar quit working slightly over three years of age. I even tried replacing the Lidar belt and motor but no joy. That's why I bought the E4. It has a gyroscope instead of Lidar which I hope will be much more long-lived. I considered the S6 MaxV but decided against it because of the Lidar. I find the E4 serves my two-story house needs very well for less than 1/3 the price. $195 from Amazon two days ago.
    I find your channel very informative. It has helped arrive at a robot vacuum purchase the fits my needs for a very good price.

  • @dudeinthesea
    @dudeinthesea 4 года назад +21

    Really happy with this purchase (got it just two days ago before this review :P )
    One tip though, you can insert a thin piece of cloth into the mop pad to "fluff it up" making the mopping experience more consistent.
    Out-of-the-box, i find that the mop-pad is slightly too thin. Even with the weight of the water tank, the unit will not push the pad against the floor hard enough. This causes an uneven and "broken" mop lines that have areas where the water did not scrub the floor properly. Hope that explanation wasn't too confusing :P happy vacuuming!

    but please clean the main brush and the brush frame regularly ( at least once a week)
    it'll often vacuum up the wet part of the floor from the mopping , so this stick sludge forms up at the brush frame , and my bot developed this stinky foot smell (or a wet dog smell)
    and its really hard to get rid of!
    other than that, im really happy with my purchase and took a hunk of work off my wife's shoulders

    Had mine for 4 weeks. It's a beast of a robot vacuum. Though I always feel bad when it gets stuck because I know it's my own fault for being lazy, working late and hot from walking home and I leave my socks at my shoes before heading for the shower and forgetting about them. Sometimes I get angry messages from Gizmo(my vacuum) that I placed them there, but sometimes when they are too close to my dark door mat he'll try shew them up and cry about it. So be careful where you place stuff. A black cord on a black carpet might as well be shewed up.

      A friend of mine has a S6 and recommended it. My sister has a Electrolux triangle cheese wedge thingy. Dug balls deep in reviews for the S6, but then the S6 MaxV was released in a local store near me, so it took that instead. It's really a beast of a machine with way better batterylife than the smaller Electrolux my sister uses. And my friend is a little jelly by my MaxV(both are very silent on sleep mode for a robot vacuum as well)

      @@PantsuMann have you seen the European model of the Deebot Ozmo T8? It has the self emptying bin like the Roomba S9+ and it has a vibrating oscillating motorized mopping pad that agitates as it moves across the floor. Those are huge selling points for me.

    • @larock0wns
      @larock0wns 4 года назад

      So I had a T8 for a month and it's frustrating. Mostly around the app, but the straw that broke the back was today. I set it to clean an area. It got tangled with a cable (which is fine). Cleared the cable and continued the cleaning. I left the house for errands and came back and was like, that's weird the robot is still cleaning. Well, it got confused, started cleaning another area of the floor (which I didn't want it to since I picked a specific area) and so it got really tangled in a power cable and was dragging it around. I had to spend 10 mins untangling it from the wheel. Cleared that, and it was low on charge so it needed to head back to the charge base. It just sat there spinning around even though it was literally like 3' in front of the robot. So it's on it's way back.
      Granted, there are some things that I like about the T8. The potentially self emptying bin (no idea when that is actually coming to the US) and the dual brushes. The video camera is cool but is a gimmick at this point, because you can't view the video camera while it's cleaning, even if you pause cleaning. I had an incident where the robot got stuck, couldn't look at the video camera because it was in cleaning mode, couldn't look at the map in the app because if there is a firmware update, it forces you to update the firmware, and couldn't update the firmware because the battery was below 50%.... so I had to go hunt the robot down to see where it was stuff. Yes, 1st world problems.
      Granted Ecovacs can fix some of the issues with the software updates, but I'm not sitting on an $800 vacuum in hopes they fix them.
      Now I'm watching the Roborock video because I won't have the T8.

    • @GraysonCarr
      @GraysonCarr 4 года назад

      @@GraysonCarr They were absolutely the T8 AIVI that I had. Sure if you had a bundle of cables, it would avoid them, but if you have like a charge cable just laying on the floor, it does not
      With that said, since having the RoboRock S6s, they are night and day better in regards to AI and software. And they added the ability to view video feed (even while cleaning, something the T8 doesn't do)

    I chose this model specifically over the newer S7 because of the monitoring capabilities, which is just a nice bonus. A portable monitoring system sounds great to me. At this point, modern society is being monitored by so many instances, private and government, that it is pretty much impossible to remain in the shadows, as it were.
    It's the price we pay for convenience, and this is also true in the case of this vacuum cleaner. Potential for malicious monitoring (though I doubt it), but upsides that may be worth it.

There seems to be a known issue with them and I've been reading some are being told it is a "feature" or "be design" to not have the main brush roller spin on carpet. Not high pile carpet, average plush carpet. There are video showing how to run the vacuum with the lid open and the dust bin out so you can see the roller being dragged as soon as it hits carpet. About the privacy concerns, it might be important to note that Roborock is a chinese company (part of Xiaomi). So if the chinese government wants to see any collected data, there's not much these companies can do to stop it even if they would want to. It's probably even less protected than a US company is from the government/patriot act. The manner in which surveillance is conducted is probably very similar to the US, but China is considerably less lenient regarding expression of anti government opinions. I have owned the s6 MAXV from end of May now, and it is much better than the Miele scout 2 vision i had before, the only thing I don't like is the mopping, It makes "streaks", but i guess that is the microfibre cloth that is bad quality, my homemade one is much better, just use a microfibre cloth and cut it with a Scissor :)

      Even without the ability to empty itself, investing in a robot vacuum is well worth your time and money. My apartment has never been cleaner and I’m a neat freak. I run my vacuum bot about 3 times a week and my floors are spotless. I also have a separate mopping bot that works great and is used at least 2 times per week. I can set the vacbot to run while I’m not home or I’m busy doing something else and all I have to do is empty the bin which I would have to do with my Dyson anyway. Take it from me, it’s worth the investment.

    - The robot does not recognize itself so the wardrobe has a mirror consider as more space. It can recognize many things, why can not recognize the mirrors based on his own image?
    - The chairs and any furniture have U shape legs (so each pair of legs connected) always try to climb on it and of course stuck there. I have to move every furniture like that before the start. Extremely annoying.
    - If I close the door where the robot cleaning when finishing the room gets panic instead of just send a notification "I come in that door and it closed, can you let me out?" It just goes around and even after the door opened it does not know what to do just go back end fort for a long time.

    Quick question! So you say the amount of water is electrically controlled so does that mean that we can fill it up without it dispensing and then when it's done vacuuming it can mop automatically after like an iRobot combo would?
    I'm personally really liking what Roborock has been doing but there are things I'd like to see:
    -I'd like to see a second brush on the other side of the vacuum because it would prevent a lot of hair from getting into the big wheel. The same goes for the front wheel but I have no solution for that one. Maybe a D shaped robot with the brush in the front and the wheels behind it would do the trick but that requires a re design from scratch.
    -Another thing I'd like to see is the lidar lowered so it can fit under more things.
    -Last but not least I'd like to see liquid avoidance in case of pets peeing in the house or a spill etc.

    • @FalconWindblader
      @FalconWindblader 4 года назад +1

      You can adjust water flow to the pad & turn the mopping feature off completely, so yes, you can set it to do a mopping round after the bot's done vacuuming. But since the vacuuming function can't be turned off completely to begin with, the bot'd still be vacuuming while doing a mopping round.
      Lidar works by having lasers spinning about while shooting out, so there's no way it can be tucked away in the bot. Given how the bot is less than 10cm tall to begin with, it's also as low as it gets. Making the bot any flatter would come with a good variety of compromises with the tech we have now.
      Spill avoidance would mean being able to detect liquids & wetness, which would require sensor technology of a whole different kind that's NOT available to ANY robot capable of sensing stuff right now. Given the limited need for something like that to begin with, & companies have no tendencies to develop things that few would want, don't expect something like that to come to botvacs in the next 10 years at least.
